This is the single most coolest thing ive ever seen on this fourm. Yeah CPU's are cool and all yadda yadda. But we have yet to see an actual functioning game thats worth playing, until now. Bravo.
Thanks. I do agree with you as well, personally I know I couldve made a CPU instead, or an ALU, or something like that, but it only takes a minute to get bored of an ALU or CPU, so making a game is so much funner.
Just to update you all, you might know that the sims download is up, so check that out and I hope you guys enjoy.
Currently on the server the sims bugged up and stopped working because of some wierd reason, a glitch with WorldEdit and pistons.
But, I'm thinking this thread may change to a Redstone Game thread, as we are hoping to make more games.
niiice. i like it. i'd never have thought of something like this xd. although i could have made it. not as fancy tho. i really suck on aesthetics XD.
great job. seems rather weird tho, the vid displays that you can eat, sleep and take a potty break at the same time. wtf?
very nice. although it's not really Sims eh lol.
Yeah, all we really need is to install a few monostable circuits so they can't be mixed up.
I'm betting on the way you're gonna play, that your sim will be quite misrable the whole time, but I do hope you enjoy.
And it is the sims. a simulator game, this simulates taking a dump, eating some ****, sleeping and facial expressions.
I'm gonna download it and tell you what I think, but I must say, just from the pictures alone, this is a great work of redstone mastery.

You have definetley inspired me to start researching and developing these things. But if you dont mind, i'd like to pitch an idea. Maybe you guys could work on a space invaders type game? I think a more action based game would be awesome. Just an idea tho.

Definitely possible, and thanks for the request. I might make a space invaders game, it would be pretty simple and quite fun.
But on the RDF server, I think someone else is making Space Invaders, but I'll ask if I can take over, seeing as he hasnt started yet.
As for current projects, me and Tj need to fix Sims, and Tj has made a random dice roller for the Monopoly game that's coming up. But at the moment on the server I'm involved in helping create a CPU and a different game.. The game is going to be some 2 player game with health bars, not too sure..
But hopefully I can bring more to you guys and I thank you alot for following me up on my posts.
This is amazing! Although its only the very basic mechanics of the Sims games, its astounding that people can make such cool games inside of another game.
The pictures, videos, and text explanations are very well done and easy to understand, even to non-redstone-savvy people!
I bet this would be pretty difficult to do, but something like a fun bar could be added and fun activities could be added too. This could work by having things like 'hang out with friends' or 'play minecraft' and doing these activities would increase your fun bar (or just make you happier). However, doing these activities would increase hunger and tiredness. Overall, I think it would be great if the features were connected somehow, so doing the 'go to a bar' activity would increase your bladder bar' and 'exercise' would increase your tired and hunger bars.
Great job to everyone involved!

Yeah, we really shouldve added more bars and actions, but it's done now, we have filled up the space and making more space would just be a hassle.
We decided to end the project, so no more implementations will be added. But we are looking for suggestions for different games and what to do for monopoly and space invaders.
lol, i usually see sims as a game where humans walk around in a house which is no fun at all. which this is. l0l. it's fun to see those bars decrease and make him happy make him sad.. muhaha...

Ya, I knew it would be very hard if not impossible to add in new features now. Either way, it's really amazing.
I was wondering, how would monopoly work? The game mechanics would be a bit hard to make.
For example, for the pieces, would there be rows for each piece? By this I mean would there be 1 row of green wool around the board for the thimble and their torch would light up in whatever space they land on and in their row?
Also, how would you implement Chance and Community Chest cards? Would you have a wall of cards and a display would tell you which card you got and simultaneously do that action on the board?
Also!, handling the money for multiple players would be a bit tricky. Have several things (I don't know what would do this) that add and subtract could take up a lot of room.
That's all I can think of now and I'm in a hurry, but I hope this works out, I would LOVE to see the results!

Yeah, me and Tj have been thinking it over, and seeing as you're interested, I'll update you in detail.
Well, yes, for your first statement, you are right. It would be bloody hard. What we are going to do, is make a huge board, the board will probably be flat on the ground. It will have 40 4x4 blocks, and when a player lands on it, their colour wool will pop out from that square. (Using pistons.) And when they move, itll pop back in and pop out where they move to.
We have the dice rolling sussed, we have dual dice and so that's simple, but the fact that the dice have to join into the game so that the output determines how many places a player moves will be difficult.
The Chance and Community chest definitely wont be a problem, we can use the same stuff as we did for the dice and make a random output turn on a torch thats in a row of torches. And whatever sign that is above, is the card. We will also make it built into the game, so that if it lands onto something that does.. say "Give $100 to all players" it will automatically begin giving money to all players.
I should mention it will be a 2-4 player game, maybe, if we can be bothered, we could implement a robot opponent so you can play by yourself.
Also, for the banks and stuff, each player will have a bank thingy. This will be a HUGE ALU. With subtract and add, and unfortunately we have to implement times, incase they land on those properties that do like 4 times your roll.
So in the end, what we do know, is that this will be one of the biggest projects in redstone history, and you're the fist person to learn about it.
ok do any of you rember a game where a frog crosses the road and doges the trucks / cars and stuff. maby you could make that game but using a lava pit below the player then having pistions Monorails what you have to jump on to .

No idea what you are talking about, sorry, but we are looking for more redstoney games, not games like that, I mean, it'd be alot of fun, but that's more of an adventure map sort of thing.

Ya, I'm really interested in this! I'm into redstone but I'm nowhere near being able to do this kind of stuff.
I was wondering, how do you make a random number/output/whatever generator like the ones you're using for the dice and the cards? I haven't been able to find any good tutorials so if you could just give a brief explanation like which components it uses I'll try to figure it out.
Anyway, I'm really excited to see your progress so I'll keep watching this thread for any new updates!

I understand that what he suggested isn't exactly what you're looking for, but what he was mentioning is Frogger! It's a classic game that you can play on pretty much any console now. Adding onto his post, it would be hard if not impossible to make piston monorails that you have to jump on because you need torches somewhere near (probably under) the pistons to make them go so you could just walk on that platform...
One way that it could be done (maybe) is by having full rows of moving blocks (pushed by pistons in a constant loop) with gaps held open by hatches! You would have to move across the level while avoiding the holes in the floor. I don't know if this is a bit more like something you would want to build, but it sounds pretty cool either way!

a good way is to D-flip-flop the outputs of a few piston ring counters which are hooked up to different clocks. when you press the button, D-flip-flop the output from them. because they're on different clocks and could possibly have multiple solid blocks in them, it's completely random what kind of signal pops out. well, not completely, but humans can't really keep track of it when it's hidden.
As I mentioned in that post, I'm not amazing with redstone. Because of this, I don't understand how D-Flip-Flops work but I do know what a ring counter does. The wikis explanation of a D Flip-Flop is confusing and I don't get it. If it's not too much, could you possibly explain how they would work together? I just don't get what the D Flip-Flop- does in this.
Thanks. I do agree with you as well, personally I know I couldve made a CPU instead, or an ALU, or something like that, but it only takes a minute to get bored of an ALU or CPU, so making a game is so much funner.
