I have a design to create a compact and rapid elevator, but I am not a frequent redstone user so I want someone else to test my idea and see if it is at all efficient. I can use basic circuitry to elevate myself, but I know there is a more efficient way to do it.
Here's a bad picture:
Here's the plan:
Key:
= empty space
= sticky piston, pointing to center
= STAIR block facing towards the center
= Player
The idea of this plan is that each stair block attached to a piston will push the player up the bottom stair block. After that push, the stair attached to the piston will be in the same position for the next piston to push the player up the stair, like so:
and then:
Each push lines up the next push up the stairs. I have managed to push myself quite a distance in a very short span of time so I think that this design is viable, Anyone want to test it out?
If you need better visuals, I can try to make that happen. Thoughts?

OT:
This has been done.
Many, many, many times before. Sorry.
:/
