Hi, I'm on Java Edition 1.15.2, and I followed this design for an automatic chicken cooker farm:
But, it doesn't seem to be killing the chickens. The eggs are shot out of the dipsenser into the lava chamber (with a slab under), but they just stand on the slab with their heads inside the lava not dying. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
even if the chicks seem to touch the lava with their heads, they will first burn when they are fully grown. However, due to the used design, most of the items will burn in the lava, so the overall harvest (feathers & raw chicken) will be low.
as the people above said before me the baby chickens will not burn until they grow up there is no point of killing baby animals sinse they drop nothing also having the lava always on that block could mean that some items may get destroyed on the lava before the hopper so if you want an easy fix try to put a hopper minecart inside the slab that the chickens are sitting that way you will gett more chanses to get the items. If you want the safest solution search on youtube for fox powered chicken farm foxes can hold swords and they use them to kill chickens.

Hey ganymede78,
even if the chicks seem to touch the lava with their heads, they will first burn when they are fully grown. However, due to the used design, most of the items will burn in the lava, so the overall harvest (feathers & raw chicken) will be low.
Best regards, Dalavar
In my chicken cooker, I use a timer to fire two very tightly spaced pulses each minute, so that lava is present for only a short period of time.
Hey scorrp10,
i use a similar approach, but use a daylight sensor instead of a timer to generate two short pulses over two observer blocks every 10 minutes.
Best regards, Dalavar
The purpose of this farm is not to kill the baby chickens (because it wouldn't drop anything).
It is to kill the chickens when they grow up, and your chickens seem to be still babies, so I think your farm works.
