You might use an RS flip-flop (also known as a latch). When a button on one side sets it, after that, the button will do nothing untill the latch is reset by a signal on the other side. Easy to make with a couple of torches and some dust. Take the output from the other side using a one-shot (also called a monostable multivibrator). Both these circuits are available in common redstone circuit tutorials.
