If that's the case, you'll still need to simulate the redstone pulse through other means, and then physically change the button state through a commandblock, but it's overly complicated for something that could be solved easily by not having such strict requirements.
If there is a way to spawn in a button in a pressed state but become unpressed after default activation time ends, then I don't know of it.
Using /setblock does not also add tile entity data unless you specify it, maybe fiddling around with that could help.
Dang.

There isn't really a way to control a button's pressed state through command blocks. To have super fast button input with some of my command block stuff I had to resort to setblock to place a new button.
You could always just put the button on a block and hang a redstone torch behind it to invert it. Same effect as what your originally asking for.
The button is still floating there after you delete the block i n mcedit.
Go to game, place button. Press it and save before it releases.
Go to mecedit, move your contraption but copy/paste and save. You should now have a pushed button that will deactivate as soon as it gets updated. Same trick to make floating rails in minecraft. You'll need mcedit for this though. -:(
Or mcedit should be able to let you place a pushed button wherever you want it...
I was referring using the command block clone feature to copy the button that is pushed in mid-air, but I'm guessing I didn't explain myself better.
What I wanted was a button that would turn off without needing a block update. I can already place "on" buttons with setblock command. I even said so in the original post.
What I was getting at is that when you pushed it it would go off but through your command block, you've hit a snag via you can't set it without it staying on permanently, though I've seen signs that turn off/on through commands, maybe that would work?
They probably had a separate command block to turn off whatever that needs to be turned off.

When I tried using setblock commands, they stayed on forever.

I'm really not sure what you mean...What's the problem? "/setblock x y z minecraft:button" places a button that's unpressed

No, it sets a button that's either off or stays on forever. I said so in the original post.

How can I clone a block that has been deleted?

Why not a T flip flop? Space?

Yeah, there's not enough space.

Could you use a pressure plate? An item can be summoned on it with a very precise time to despawn.
It's on a one meter thick wall, and the stuff behind the wall is supposed to remain hidden.
