I'm pretty sure it's possible (Almost everything is with the new commands), because I recently downloaded an Ao Oni Mansion build and I pretend hunting my friends in it (With the Oni skin!), but my visible nametag would make the game boring, and more, walking with Shift the whole game is not an option
Is there a way to make my Nametag invisible without making myself invisble as well?
If there's not, please point me a mod or something that does that
Have a super fast clock, preferably a fill clock. Hooked up to these commands:
/execute @p ~ ~ ~ summon ArmorStand ~ ~ ~ {CustomName:"<Here you will put spaces, put as many spaces as characters in your name>",CustomNameVisible:1,Invisible:1,NoGravity:1}
/kill @e[type=ArmorStand,name=<the amount of spaces that you put on CustomName>]
Keep in mind that these commands will run in order from most negative X to most positive X. So you need the top one to run first. Hope this works!

Welp, I've tried quite a few things. It doesn't seem like there's any entity/block that overwrites your nametag in the game. Well, unless you want a zombie in a minecart riding above your head constantly. So it doesn't really seem this is possible. Sorry.

You have to create a team first then add everyone to the team (using @a selector) and then use @AgtMulder99's command.
EDIT: added commands
To create a team:
/scoreboard teams add
Then add everybody to your team
/scoreboard teams join @a
Use @Agt's command
/scoreboard teams option nametagVisibility never
If you want only yours to be invisible instead of @a in the second command type in your nick

No problem! I do hope it will be possible in the future though. Considering delimiters are already in place (square brackets around the parameters), spaces within them should not be considered as the next step in the command syntax. If that ever does get resolved, then hopefully we can input any character we want as well, as we're currently limited to what a player can use as their Minecraft name.

Yeah, it is kind of disappointing, like when I was playing around one time, it doesn't really match up in the way where in the CustomName tag you can put spaces but you can't in the name parameter. So if you wanted to kill a cow that is named "Awesome Cow", for instance, you can't really kill just him without assigning a score to him on an objective. It'd be much easier if you could just use spaces.

Heeey! If you want to do it in Vanilla with a less complicated and quick way try this!
Type in this! /scoreboard teams add (any name!)
/scoreboard teams option (the name from last command!) nametagVisibility never
/scoreboard teams join "(your friends name)" Make sure they are on the server and they wont be able to see your name!

make a 20-tick clock:setblock ~ ~-1 ~ redstone_block 0 destroy
then, make sure that the following block is higher on the X axis than the next:execute @p ~ ~-0.3 ~ summon ArmorStand
then of course, this should be lower:kill @e[type=ArmorStand]
activate the clock, though note you will not be able to interact with blocks, and in order to stop it setblock or blockdata must be used
Not working, how it was supposed to work?

This is on the Xbox version, not the computer.

It is very possible in vanilla; Maxaxik's post is exactly what you need.
You cannot use spaces inside player selectors.
