I want to know how I can detect if a player places a certain block down for my adventure map (And it will edit the scoreboard for -1 on the objective blocksUsed)
the testforblock command in a command block will check for a block in a certain position. Otherwise, you can check for if a player has placed that block anywhere, look for SethBling's video clippy in minecraft for that.

Yeah, that will work for any block, but I believe 3dsboy08 was asking if it were possible to detect if a very specific block was placed (ex. if the player placed dirt as opposed to cobblestone).
I don't know of any way to detect specific blocks like that though...
