We keep hearing a lot of "it will be worth it in the end!" aka, just keep buying and playing, we will deliver something, someday! It's carrot and stick tactics. The API is never coming out.
Keep buying and playing? Buy what? You bought the game once, and thats all. Any additional content you may like is made by the modding community and is completely free.
What users don't understand is that mojang isn't there to satisfy childish wishes, but to make a better, more deep game. There's no reason for new ores, note at all, they will add ores when they have something USEFUL to do. Like quartz, which brought some aesthetic improvement and materials for redstone stuff. They won't be like newbie modders adding 20 variations of iron, gold or diamond just to make different colored tools or weapons, that's USELESS. You have mods for that no need to add it in vanilla. They will only add new ores when they provide with a resource to create better and more complete features to make gameplay more interesting. My advice, give up on the idea they will just add ores for nothing, because ores are one of the most important blocks in minecraft, they need to have a real purpose, no need for 10 ores doing the same thing.
Nicely done, good sirs! +1

Topics like these REALLY annoy me. I don't think that Mojang is attempting a "suckish, lame update". Mojang is adding amazing features for mapmakers and survivalists alike! Have you seen the changelog? Most people assume that because in creative there are only 4 new blocks that this is a lame update. Check behind the scenes, there is a boatful of features!
Here is the changelog, currently: (it is long BTW)
oldBlockHandling works like with /setblock, but with additional options: hollow to only fill the outer layer of blocks and fill the inner part with air, outline to fill the outer layer of blocks and ignore the inner part
Items with this tag display the names of the blocks that they can destroy in the item tooltip
Example: /give @p minecraft:diamond_shovel 1 0 {CanDestroy:["minecraft:sand","minecraft:grass"]} to give a diamond shovel that can break grass and sand)
CanPlaceOn
Allows placing of certain blocks against other blocks in adventure mode
Example: /give @p stone 16 0 {CanPlaceOn:["minecraft:diamond_block"]}
HideFlags
Allows hiding of certain parts of the tooltip
Bit field of 1/enchantments, 2/modifiers, 4/unbreakable, 8/candestroy, 16/canplace
PickupDelay
The number of ticks before an item entity can be picked up.
Set to 32767 for items that can't be picked up
ShowParticles
Option to show or hide all particles for a potion effect, while the 'Ambient' tag only shows fewer particles. Set to 1 to show, 0 to hide.
Lock:"Secret"
A way to lock containers from being opened using NBT tags
Mostly useful for adventure maps in adventure mode
Containers can be unlocked by clearing their string for Lock
Locked containers can only be opened while holding anything renamed to the given string, item is not removed on use[2]
The lock can be completely removed utilizing the command /blockdata
Gamerule
logAdminCommands
Prevents command block output from being stored in chat logs. In multiplayer, also prevents player-initiated commands from being stored. Unrelated tocommandBlockOutput, which is output into the visible chat.
Minecraft Realms button only shows if any Realms you own / are invited to are the same version you are playing (If all Realms are outdated, the button hides itself.)
Sneaking
When not holding anything in the hand, sneaking appears to make the hand move to the right. When the sneak key is released, the hand moves to the front again
Item Animation
When items are collected, rather than "zooming" into the player's chest, it appears to move to the player's feet instead.
Enchanting will now cost 1 to 3 levels, but you still need the same minimum total levels
For example, an enchantment may only become available for enchanting after reaching 13 levels of experience, but will only cost 2 XP levels and 2 of a resource.
Additionally, there is now a material cost - enchanting also costs 1 to 3 pieces of lapis lazuli now
The actual enchantment calculation is the same
One of the enchantments will be displayed in the tooltip
The enchantments you would get on a tool will not change until you enchant something - this enchantment seed is stored per player
Leveling up now takes longer
Level V enchants can now appear on an item without the use of an anvil
Looting now gives an extra 1% chance of getting rare loot per level
Copying written books will now mark them as copies/copies of copies
The copying status of a book (ie. original, copy of original or copy of a copy) is denoted in a separate line in the tooltip, beneath the author's name
When struck by lightning, villagers turn into witches
Villagers will now only breed when willing
The first time a specific trade is done, the villager will become willing, any other time there's a 1 in 5 chance the villager will become willing
When a baby villager is born, both parents lose their willingness
Villagers become willing to breed by consuming food: 3 bread or 12 potatoes or 12 carrots
Finding out a villager's willingness in survival is difficult: The only tell is the amount of xp they give when trading; Normal trading yields 3-6 experience points, trading and making a villager willing yields 8-11 experience points
It's people like OP that fail to see that the stuff "under-the-hood" is being worked on, such as the modding API and bug fixes. I understand the people that want content, content, content, but they can't always be adding things, without improving infrastructure. These recent "mapmaker updates" are because they need to focus on getting the plugin API working, and the code to be less buggy. If you're just going to throw the argument of "we need more content because nothing seems to be happening" then you need to look at all dimensions of this situation. Would you rather have something that works, or something cool that doesn't work? Ask yourself that. I'm sure that when whatever they've been doing (hint: Plugin API ) is over and done, the boat will tip the other way and we'll get plenty of survival updates.
Minority? When was the last year you played minecraft? You think people using boats is the majority? But oceans are smaller every day and boats do their job and are easy to use to go across the sea (maybe you dont know how to use them), who could care something so useless when there are way better things to do? And WitherSnow, no one who knows something about this game would do this topic, you don't even know what a snapshot is or you wouldn't expect it to have a lot of things because snapshot are test versions with a few new things and the more they advance the more bugfix centered they are. You should know that but you don't so you made this useless thread instead of learning first what you were talking about.
1. Boats are usefull for crossing oceans. Are you seriously trying to tell us you would rather swim your way!
2.Again i bring up the question of how the do you know what i understand. You neglect the question but it still remains. You don't know ! You say a few new things to test but Mob AI is only one thing. Don't you think a block or two would be possible to add to the snapshot.
Seems to me that the 1.8 snapshots are shaping up to be pretty friggin' cool so far. I'm looking forward to the release and am pretty disappointed in some of my fellow Minecrafters who seem to think that they're getting the short end of the stick. I'm sorry, but if you think you can do better get on over to Mojang and make it happen. The latest bugfix snapshot was awesome simply because it was primarily that. A BUGFIX. I say the more of those we get the better. I'm so not interested in new content and so incredibly interested in stabilizing the content we already have I can't even express it adequately. Whine elsewhere.
1.8 is shaping up to be primarily rewrites, bug fixes and plugin interface progress, and in my opinion the game could use more of these kinds of updates. When they do make content updates I wish they would try to finish half-finished concepts, like oceans and The End.
Please stop complaining! When new features are added to the game, we complain that bugs aren't being fixed, and when bugs are fixed, we complain that nothing new is added to he game! Just be grateful that you have cooked pork chops on your hot bar and planks over your head.
Latest Snapshot Brings.... nevermind, same terribly-argued op.
Seriously, they fixed an extremely high number of bugs. Remember, we are getting closer and closer to Minecraft 2.0, there needed to be an update that was mostly bugfixes, otherwise they compound and multiply.
Except Mojang gives you the "updates" because it isn't finished yet....
Don't confuse the responsibility of doing bug fixes with concept of expansion packs.
Adding three blocks of stone and giving the villagers the AI that should have existed in the first place doesn't even deserve the title of "update."
you're the one confusing things. Mojang has NO obligation to keep updating the game. All of us knew from the very beginning, long before we buy it, that someday updates are gonna stop. Game was perfectly playable on 1.0 so that was full game. All games have bugs that sometimes never get fixed, but instead Mojang kept UPDATING the game and FIXING bugs, when they had no need to. Like someone said earlier, this game will never be finished, it can be expanded infinitely. They're not finishing the game, that's impossible, they are adding new features to a perfectly playable game and you should thank them for such a cheap game to keep being updated for free, most companies ask for 40-70 dollars for the game and then you have to pay for DLCs.
1. Boats already do that nothing else needs to be changed. They work perfectly for me to go across oceans, with no problems at all. So if you can't guys, then you need to practice with them until you can drive them that way.
2. Sure they can add them but we don't need the ground to be a rainbow, too many different blocks would look bad like the 4 kind of stones we have now. What kind of ore can they add that we don't have already? We have lapislazuli for trades, redstone and quartz for circuits, iron, gold and diamond for armor and tools/weapons, coal for furnaces and torches. What else would you add an ore for that's not already on the game? 'Cause we don't need harder armors or tools, that's why we have enchanting.
3.I "demoralize" them because im sick of these low effort snapshots. If they wanna do a bug fix update, fine but they should try to have a bit of both things. Having "mob AI improved" is not a good update.
I would like to see you go and refactor/optimize the code of a game that has been made in the most haphazard way, and then tell me these snapshots have been low-effort
The game isn't finished. Here we are with "1.8" and one class of villagers is getting finally getting something resembling an AI. They still stand there like dummies when there is a fire (even the other mobs "know" to avoid fire and lava!).
There are still bugs that are over a year old and new ones popping up in each snapshot BECAUSE the "new content" causes it.
You don't pay for updates because it isn't finished!
To call this a "finished" product is an insult to finished products.
I have gone over this with you and Biggman in another thread:
Well you see, whether or not the game feels complete is a matter of opinion. However, the game is officially released and so regardless of what you feel, it is a finished product. If you have a problem with that then you can just deal with it. And I disagree, if they stopped working on it today, it would be a rather complete and legit game. And it is obvious Mojang do want to make content and they enjoy their jobs, so I see no reason why they would stop working on their game and dump a source so the community, who can never agree about anything, and is filled with more immature people than any other place on the internet, can have at it.
You're right, but since the updates are optional, and noone forces people to use them (besides, snapshot are "at your own risk", since they can corrupt worlds), if you don't like them, you can skip them.
Good things and bad things both get released in these things. The majority of the time, they are not reverted, not even in final non-snapshot releases. Nor is there a checkbox where you can choose to use only certain things from the game. Few people are satisfied with every change.
The "forcing" is inherent by packaging bad stuff with good stuff. If they want to use a feature they think is cool, they have to use the features they don't like. Even the purely aesthetic stuff doesn't really have an optional quality to it.
If Mojang said the sky was purple would you believe them too?
Just because the developer calls it "finished" hardly makes it "complete."
Look at how buggy the mob AI still remains to this day. Do you call villagers crowding into one house "completed work?"
Where are the separate bug fixes available for download?
In order to get bug fixes and to get features completed that should have been in the game since the "official release" one has to install these updates. There is no other choice.
I'll wait while you provide the links. Thanks.
Except that they're not required to fix their bugs or give you new content. You paid $20 for the product that existed at the time, and you got that product. If you don't like the changes they make, stick to the product you paid for.
Seems you don't receive many adequate updates for your taste. When does Mojang's game finally become a finished product? Seems like every update results in the game still being a long way from being considered 'finished'. The argument "until al bugs are fixed" is invalid, as many other games are already finished and yet they cater bugs.
If Mojang said the sky was purple would you believe them too?
No, what to believe comes from opinion and supported by facts. Whether or not Mojang declares the sky purple, one can just go out and review the facts. Obviously, the sky wouldn't be purple. Mojang had officially launched the game the game 1.0.0, calling this update the official release of Minecraft. They could have stopped there and never updated their game, as it wasn't their will to do so. Minecraft is finished, and whether or not you feel the game is complete is completely based on opinion.
Just because the developer calls it "finished" hardly makes it "complete."
It seems many complainers on here don't have a limit to how they define the word 'complete.' As you said, the game is finished, not complete. Finished doesn't necessarily mean complete. Mojang didn't say their game was complete, or did they?
Look at how buggy the mob AI still remains to this day. Do you call villagers crowding into one house "completed work?"
No, the game was some work to be done in many aspects. The game may not be complete, it is still officially a finished game. These villagers don't go around breaking the game do they?
Where are the separate bug fixes available for download?
They're not. Mojang will not cater to your own personal preferences for the game's advancement. It is either you take all of it or none. Now, if the updates actually were to have a price that would change. I would want my money's worth on what I want. A checklist for each individual part of the update, each with an individual price. The thing is, we are not paying for each update. They are completely free, and any complaining to do about these free updates would involve the spoiling of these people. Complaining should be done moderately, when necessary. The complainers have to learn when enough is enough. Those who complain about the horrid terrain generation from beta 1.8 up still complain. Why? The terrain to them now is dull, and they will stop at nothing to make sure a change has been made. 1.7 brought many expansive biomes, and another rewrite to how biomes are generated. What did people do? They still complained. I don't understand how Mojang can tolerate such spoiled brats that they have no obligation to contemplate at a cost of nothing.
In order to get bug fixes and to get features completed that should have been in the game since the "official release" one has to install these updates. There is no other choice.
if such a system were to exist, Mojang would have to program every single instance to be compatible with and without other dependant instances. A bug fix may heavily rely on an upgrade to the lighting system, yet some people still would only want the lighting system. A comparison between a program such as Windows is irrelevant to a game. Windows is meant to open customizable features. Minecraft, on the other hand, opens customizable features within the goal of the developers.
but if he is burnt out, it totally his right to be so
would it really be that bad if someone new tried?
also we are not DEMANDING updates form them.... updates are a great way to keep the game fresh AND keep the developer's minds working on creative ideas
its a win win for everyone, but I do believe fresh eyes are needed (not to eat)
This latest snapshot in my opinion is the worst of them all. An atrocity so large it doesn't deserve to be called an update! Last time I checked, a snapshot is not an update. Most of the content goes in the first snapshots, don't expect each snapshot to be full of content, that has never been the case.
Bold claims i know but after this post you'll understand. First we need to look at the snapshots that have come out.!.8 snapshot 1 introduced players to some new exciting blocks. The rest consisted of villager AI and mapmaker commands. I rather have a less buggy game rather more content. God forbid the developer try to actually FIX their buggy game! The game it pretty much complete as it is, the last thing we need is mountains of game changing content every few months. I don't know how a bug fix can make so many people upset. Not every update needs to be the size of Atlantis.
That last few full updates had content that was useful to survival in some way. Survival isn't the only thing people do, what about map makers and creative players? They got some stuff to play with.
In fact the last time i remember being excited for a snapshot was 1.4. Maybe it's just because i wanna see a lot of mobs and ore but ever sense then i havn't really been excited about a new feature. Not everyone gets what they want. None of us do. Expecting it will only frustrate you further.
The first snapshot of 1.8 changed that. I feel it's Jeb's time to step down. I understand they can't satisfy everyone but for the love of christ a little effort would help. How do you judge how much effort Jeb has put forth? How much Jeb pleased you? Didn't you just say they can't please everyone?
I would love it if they made an entire update dedicated to mobs or new ores. That way people who want those things will be satisfied for a long time.Of corse there is a problem of only 5 or so people but they have the money to hire at LEAST 1 or 2 people. I would love the game to be taken to a new direction. I wouldn't mind a few simple machines to be added in vinalla. Again, we all want stuff. Survival isn't their only focus, they can't give everyone everyone what they want. People want thousonds of things, they can't make an exception to one group. They choose their focus and they choose what additions there will be.
I just think they arn't doing the best they can. Im positive that some day Minecraft will be rolled over by another game like it but possibly better. That's all for now! That's inevitable, no game lasts forever.
I'm glad Minecraft is a finished product - polished, bug free, the best piece of software ever written by mankind.
Because it would be kind of embarrassing if mobs kept floating in and out of blocks all the time like this:
This never happens in a finished product.
Have you ever played another game? I'm not saying Minecraft is perfect, it's barely stable enough to be considered a beta release. I still play it though, as do you.
The standard for a 'complete' game is far below what we expect nowadays.

I agree his complaints hold no weight, but this is a bad argument. Free does not equal good. It also does not equal no complaints.
