Speaking from the point of view of a software developer, y'all are spoiled.
Every single snapshot has had new content. (Maybe not the content you want but you can't just stick your head in the sand and pretend the rest of it doesn't exist.) This is remarkable considering what they have to do for the plugin API. I'm actually surprised we haven't seen snapshots where the 'changes' consist of "We re-wrote a bunch of code, please report any bugs in case we blew something up while doing that." and nothing else.

Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
I keep hearing how 'easy' updates are and how 'lazy' Mojang obviously is. If that is the case, why has the Mod community not just written their own sandbox game from the ground up?
If you don't like the game, go play something else and quit filling the forum with rant threads.
They added a model folder to resource packs in the latest snapshot. It contains a number of model files and changing them will change how the game renders things. It's clearly just an initial test at the moment though.

People like the OP are exactly why Minecraft development is going to hell. People who demand "new features" in every update fail to realize that things like bug fixes and core game changes (stuff that "supposedly" progresses us toward the mythical Plugin-API), are just as important, if not more-so, than pointless content updates. But the Mojang devs keep trying to cater to these childish desires, and therefore often fail to work on any of the things that they really should be. Even this update shows it... 95% of the bug fixes were fixes to bugs in the NEW content, not fixes for old and pre-existing bugs. I for one would wholeheartedly welcome a complete version update that gave us NO new features, but that was entirely comprised of fixes for long-standing bugs, and maybe some real focus on Plugin-API-friendly updates. Unfortunately, people like the OP would scream and whine and complain about an update like that.
Lol okay. I guess im the source of the problems in minecraft now. I can understand having a rewrighting update but i hope 1.9 will do better.
If you don't know much about the game you should avoid making threads. You don't even understand what a snapshot is. You should feel lucky you are able to test versions before they comeout and instead you complain like a child. Please ddon't ruin this great community with nonsenses, investigate and ONLY THEN make new topics. That's way more useful than a complain based in something you don't even understand. Go check the wiki to learn what a snapshot is, please.
Whoa! Im sensing hostility over a small problem. Also im pretty sure i explained the difference between the two earlier.
Dinnerbone just said 95% of what they're doing is going towards it. https://twitter.com/Dinnerbone/status/431432688734863360 I've seen the thread where people doubt this, but when the developers say something like this (simple, direct, to the point, and suggesting effort), it becomes harder to doubt. 1.8 seems to have a unified purpose. Inserting new mobs and ores would throw this out of whack. It was already said that without a reason, they would not add new ores. Mobs are similar. If you include a reason, that changes the game fundamentally, and given how that doesn't seem like the purpose of this update, it would be distracting and we'd probably get another 1.6 (not bad, but it didn't really make any group happy so far as I've seen). Also, the way you are suggesting all this sounds pretty much like "My group is so rabidly insane about our focus that jeb should step down for not giving it to us. And if he doesn't do it our way they're lazy and Minecraft will become obsolete." It's not a problem with the developers if they don't give you everything you want. It's probably all on your end if you suggest extremes for something that is not that big of a deal. https://twitter.com/Dinnerbone/status/431509376835526656
I never claimed Jeb should step down because of that. The man has been doing this for 3 years. I think it might be time for a fresh new prospective on minecraft by someone new. Jeb seems burnt out. The last few updates besides 1.7 were okay at best.
in the latest snapshots they fix a LOT of things, like rewriting several things so those get better. you should not complain, because they are doing the best they can to make you happy and get the game better
I shouldn't complain because you don't like my opinion. Okay. People are allowed to complain so ing get used to it.

Im sensing a lot of arrogance in this post. So i should go play a different game because i have a problem with something about the game! Can you not handle my opinion! A few of you guys seem to do this. Just because i attacked minecraft doesn't give you the right to say i should stop playing because you don't like my opinion. Some of you have decent retorts that make me rethink things.
But the majority seem to be hostile about it.
Note: In the OP i mention not just one snapshot or update but many.
Sorry, hatrs, but this update is for Redstoners, CmdBlock users, Mapmakers, and XP Farmers. Mojang already gave you your new stone, building materials, and fun slime blocks. The last 1.7 update gave you everything and more: dyes to collect, horses, new biomes. Besides, games like minecraft NEVER HAVE A FINAL PRODUCT UNLESS abandoned. This is for builders, mapmakers, and inventors mostly; but atleast be happy they gave you a consolation >.>

Oh, I see, if I express my opinion, I am arrogant. But you can spew non-constructive criticism all you want. Nice.

What users don't understand is that mojang isn't there to satisfy childish wishes, but to make a better, more deep game. There's no reason for new ores, note at all, they will add ores when they have something USEFUL to do. Like quartz, which brought some aesthetic improvement and materials for redstone stuff. They won't be like newbie modders adding 20 variations of iron, gold or diamond just to make different colored tools or weapons, that's USELESS. You have mods for that no need to add it in vanilla. They will only add new ores when they provide with a resource to create better and more complete features to make gameplay more interesting. My advice, give up on the idea they will just add ores for nothing, because ores are one of the most important blocks in minecraft, they need to have a real purpose, no need for 10 ores doing the same thing.

WUT? A post giving Mojang some respect? Are you sure you are on the right site?
I have to agree, I think there are a heck of a lot of changes going on under the covers and I wish they would actually be draconian and NOT listen to those who complain about every update. I just want them to keep working on things. Even when they make some changes that go against my play style, I am still overall happy that they keep updating the game.
Ok, so it's a miscellaneous update. The verdict has been reached.
FYI, bugs do have to be fixed 'on the fly' because that's how they form. I mean sure, they have to fix some while they are testing but they still never round them up before they create an update. One problem is that they update so often that the bugs aren't updated in Mojira and they end up never fixing all the important bugs.
Oh, I see, if I express my opinion, I am arrogant. But you can spew non-constructive criticism all you want. Nice. Exactly, the game is letting you down, that is why I suggested that it might be time to go play something else.
In no way were your words trying to nicely say i should play something else. Or at least it didn't come off that way. Also telling me to stop playing because i am complaining doesn't sound like an opinion to me. It sounded like you were upset with my opinion and told me to stop playing the game. Again maybe it was the way i read it.

You seem to go on tangents an awful lot. How exactly do you knw what i understand about their game and the way they code it! So don't assume shiz until you know it!
I didnt mean to offend you, but there is no reason to complain.. I just wanted to say I don't see why people keep complaining about someone improving the game you like
Minority? When was the last year you played minecraft? You think people using boats is the majority? But oceans are smaller every day and boats do their job and are easy to use to go across the sea (maybe you dont know how to use them), who could care something so useless when there are way better things to do?
And WitherSnow, no one who knows something about this game would do this topic, you don't even know what a snapshot is or you wouldn't expect it to have a lot of things because snapshot are test versions with a few new things and the more they advance the more bugfix centered they are. You should know that but you don't so you made this useless thread instead of learning first what you were talking about.
It's people like OP that fail to see that the stuff "under-the-hood" is being worked on, such as the modding API and bug fixes. I understand the people that want content, content, content, but they can't always be adding things, without improving infrastructure.
These recent "mapmaker updates" are because they need to focus on getting the plugin API working, and the code to be less buggy.
If you're just going to throw the argument of "we need more content because nothing seems to be happening" then you need to look at all dimensions of this situation. Would you rather have something that works, or something cool that doesn't work? Ask yourself that.
I'm sure that when whatever they've been doing (hint: Plugin API ) is over and done, the boat will tip the other way and we'll get plenty of survival updates.

We keep hearing a lot of "it will be worth it in the end!" aka, just keep buying and playing, we will deliver something, someday! It's carrot and stick tactics. The API is never coming out.
Buying and playing? Really? You pay one time and you get all of the updates for free, if it was another company that made the game maybe they would make you pay for each update. I'm not saying you have to worship Mojang, but really? complaining about the API (which may take years to make) when you're constantly getting updates? Besides this discussion wasnt even about the API.
At least 'mediocre' is a step above 'complete suck'. Maybe they could name it the 'revamp' update, revamping enchants, villagers, and the code for the API?

Test yo shiz Mojang.
Also I'm tired of Mojang focusing their effort on the minority of players like those who do pvp or mapmakers.
