I like the update, but I still don't see the ridiculous complaints people have here. A red flower is a red flower, and that isn't any different for me. For my friends, they noticed a rose was a poppy now, and it took about 3 seconds to get past that. As for oceans, they literally have nothing of any sort of value or interest, so unless they get boats, new sea creatures, or some kind of purpose, I don't care about them being a bit smaller. But they are in no way in need of being so big you need to spend several minutes crossing them by boat, a good middle ground should be found, should new content be added.

Well only a few words can describe my hate towards The 1.7 update. 1.7 SUCKS. Minecraft has become over complicated in the last few major updates. Doesn't anyone miss the old simple minecraft? When you almost your pants when you figured out how to make a nether portal. Or when that creeper you ed off in the mine followed you in your house and blew you to smithereens. How about the days of the non-gravity pistons. Do you remember when you stood on a piston and hit a lever and it flew you high in the sky. What has happened to the simplicity of minecraft. Minecraft was founded by Notch, who quit. LIKE NOTCH WTF BRO. Doesn't that you off when the guy who made the game quit? He quits on the game he quits on you. Jeb and dinnerbone were left to pick up the pieces once notch left. I still respect all of them over at mojang and mc headquarters. Before I loved the new updates. Like when potions were invented. That was the back then. Ta Dah! Made a potion. Boom im the boss, im too good for this game. But now im happy if I can make a ing fishing rod without having to rely on google for the recipe. And why did they take away the oceans..... The oceans were the best part! Swimming with the squids, finding underwater caves that always had the best loot. Now if I wanted to I could walk on the floor of an ocean to the other side of the ocean without drowning. Doesn't say something?
-Flys
I remember when there weren't oceans. Be glad we have oceans and squids at all. (Besides, are oceans really that exciting? Not really. It's hard to see underwater, and a pain in the ass to build. What would be great is if the next update made oceans worthwhile instead of just pretty to look at.)

I agree, and I don't want to be against anyone, I'll still listen to what they say, but some things people complain about are not worth complaining about. I don't mean that for everyone but still.
Honestly, I think this update did more bad, than good. Sure, the shaders are cool, the new fishing mechanics rock and colored glass is finally here, but preety much everything else made me really sad.
Firstly, the removal of rose flowers. Why couldn't they just add the poppy as a separate flower is beyond me. Also some of the other new flowers have too lightly colored stems, which just doesn't look nice.
Then there's the fact that if I spawn somewhere in the desert it'll take me a couple of hours to get to *any* snowy biome. And as much as it makes sence, it is still very, very annoying. They could just make taigas and thundras not spawn directly next to swamps, deserts and jungles, but I guess that would have been way to nice to be real.
I also dislike the fact that the render distance settings have been changed. Sure, I'll get used to them, but it was much more intuitive with "tiny", "small", "normal" and "far".
Some of the new biomes rub me the wrong way. The mesa biome, for example, looks like candy land, but I think I'll get used to it as well.
The podzol thingy, it just looks... wrong, for some reason.
And, please, don't get me wrong, I understand and respect all the hard work Mojang put into this update, but some of the additions are just too... crazy (In my opinion). And some of them are just generally bad ideas. I hope 1.8 will fix some of the issues that 1.7 introduced, I really do. But in the meantime, I will stay at 1.6.
Thank you for reading.
P.s. My apologies to anyone who may find this post offensive.

^ This...
No one should take that as offensive, it's your opinion and you did make some pretty good points.
Two reasons to hate it. I'm scared, why am I reading this, you are a horrible person, forget that last one, oh no, please, why...
1: Smaller oceans. Clearly a horrible feature, I NEED MY FRIKIN 100000 BLOCK LONG OCEAN! Me: Please be sarcasm, please be sarcasm... Plus, Mojang was supposed to give us an "OCEAN UPDATE", No, that was a possibility. instead, they go all lazy like and give us a 3 times smaller ocean. They made it easier possible to traverse your "FRIKIN 100,000 BLOCK OCEAN!" 3 times smaller... hmmm... less, fortunately; 3 times smaller would be 33,000 blocks... This is outrageous! I want my special little mob, no I don't necessarilly support Sharks, Octopusses and Mermaids, but I'd like at least 1 hostile mob inside the ocean. Not for it to be taken! I want my ocean, it's unacceptable not to have it. Don't complain about something that was never confirmed. They never confirmed that you would get this mob; don't dare say they promised you. It can't be unacceptable if it wasn't unacceptable in every single version of minecraft.
2: WHERE THE HECK IS MY ROSE FLOWER? Oh look, the rose flower magically transformed into a bush, I personally do not like this, I love my rose, now all we have is the basic flower, WE GOTTA KEEP THE ROSE, if Mojang gets rid of the default flower...I might even quit minecraft (for a while) cause those are classic items and they NEED to stay. And before you go all "oh the poppy's the same thing as a rose" it most certainly is not, I want my rose, end of discussion. GRRRRRRMMMMMMMMMNNNMMM! PLEASE! END THIS MADNESS! Seriously. They might as well bring the rose back- I prefer it- but seriously, if a new item a couple pixels different is going to do this to the community... I don't even know what to say.
Anyway, everything else is fine I guess, 1.7.2 didn't make me super happy. I mean, if I had to pick a favorite part in it, I'd pick the new fishing mechanic. Sorry for the full ranting of how much I hate that they took my oceans and roses...IT MAKES ME SO M- nope, no more ranting... And, y'know, it doubled the amount of biomes, added new achievements, ~5-6 new commands... nothing special.
Yes, that's what I think of 1.7, not so very great, maybe a 5/10 not bad, not good.
Why does there have to be 50 hate threads and 100 hate posts every single update? Can't a guy get a break?

“The story so far:
In the beginning, Notch created dirt.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.”
I think Mr. Adams best summed it up.
Personally I think each of the last several updates have been quite good. Not only is the terrain generation better in this update, we got a lot of new colored blocks to play with over the past several patches, and a way to mine them. Boats went back to normal. And even though the render distance is tweeked and that odd dimming when your indoors, the light errors (where something is dark that should not be) has improved or is fixed. And over all, for me I now others are hosed, the game runs better.
So donno, things seem ok for me. Well I would really like bukkit to put out a 1.7 server (it would apear that they are currently in Florida enjoying some serrious downtime so no complaints) but that is not Mojang's issue.
Far as the flowers go. Remember A Rose by any other name is.....A freeken Poppy, so get over it!

You can't "- your pants" when you make a netherportal now? You can't be "ed off in the mine because a creeper blew up your home"?
Pistons, in vanilla, NEVER CATAPULTED YOU INTO THE AIR. That was from the mod pistons were based off.
Simplicity of minecraft? All games were at a point (wether closed or open alpha/bets) simple.
Notch didn't "quit", he left to make other games because the game he was making WAS FINISHED.
Potions not making you a OP god? That is a BAD thing?
Recipies mostly have not changed (mainly just for example signs now give you more for the same amount of wood). The only thing that has really changed, IS THERE IS NOW MORE THINGS TO CRAFT. I knew how to make a piston right in B1.7, and I still know how to do it. Most things from when I first got minecraft have not changed recipie wise.
Oceans were not REMOVED, they were made SMALLER, with more common islands. It was requsted ALOT.
Underwater caves didn't have any better chance of giving you loot.
You can walk across a OCEAN without drowning? Damn. I would LOVE to see a video of you doing this.
For me, I like this update. I am one of the people who dont like the poppy and some of the flower textures. Guess what I am going to do about it: Quit minecraft? Nope. Make 1000 threads about it? Nope. I will retexture them to what I want them to be like. Simple, and even simpler with the life-saving resource pack queuing.
Flowers. I love the flowers. I'm torn in the whole poppy/rose thing. On one hand, I like the look of the rise better. The poppy is ugly to me. On the other hand, iron golems giving villagers poppies is both sweeter and funnier than roses. They're either telling them to never forget or trying to put the little brats to sleep. Er- those are the two uses of the poppy, right? I've only heard these around the forums here, but they amuse me so. My issue: re texture or don't retexture? … hey, why are there multiple tulips? Well, I won't miss one tulip. Think that will be my new rose. Problem solved.
Colored glass. Not so much because I personally love it, but because I've seen support for it before it was added. Always great to see developers adding things users asked for.
New biomes. Very much like. The Mesa and Savannah in particular. And despite the cries against it, I like the orange wood.
Fishing. I can get unlimited name tags with a rod? Yes. I like. I REALLY like. Even if they're rare, they're possible. Making name tags and lilly pads renewable is awesome.
/summon. I summoned giants. I have rideable zombie and skeleton horses. I unleashed the Ender Dragon in the overworld, fed him cake and villagers, and watched him carve out massive cave systems at bedrock. Maybe this was possible pre-1.7. If so, I didn't know how. /summon is a blast.
Multiple resource packs. I use a resource pack to change my skin when offline, and my "online" is just a no-Internet LAN. It's nice to be able to turn off my skin when on multiplayer. Among other things, but that's the best for me at the moment.
Dislike:
Biome generation. I like having (cold) taigas next to deserts, thank you. How are we supposed to see awesome/hilarious biome combinations if they don't generate next to each other? I suppose it makes things more realistic but… I don't like it. Thank heavens for Amidst and The Nether to actually get anywhere new.
Smaller oceans. Well, I'll get used to them. I like them huge. Not a game-killer, I guess. I'll probably grow fond of this with time. Can't complain, since there were so many complaints about oceans being too big before.
Taigas became (not cold) Taigas. Way to mess with anyone who likes their pre-1.7 taiga. Seriously. I think instead of adding cold taigas, they should have added warm taigas and left the current ones alone.
Gravel oceans? Not hot on that one. Oceans were fine before, darn it.
Overall:
I like the update. It has some annoying downsides. None bad enough to stop playing Minecraft over. Just to work around. Looking at my own list, there's more good than bad, and the enjoyability of the good is much stronger than any resentment for the bad.
Also, seeing new chunks next to previously-loaded chinks is amusing. A straight line cutting a cliff in half and abrupt changes in biomes along that same straight line. I don't care if its ugly and nonsensical. It's funny and I like it.

Mesa biome looks like Candyland? Ever see the Painted Desert? That's what it looks like.
My only complaint would be the reduction of the render distance. I had some nice views out of some of my houses which is now, sadly, gone.
Good job though, Mojang!
Yeah, I suppose you're right, there was no official announcement about an ocean update. :/
