It is good. They addressed the problem that witches hardly existed. So they fixed it. Now we have another mob that you don't want to mess with early game (like endermen). Now all they need to do is address the problems with silverfish and cave spiders.
If they made Silver Fish appear in all biomes instead of just Extreme Hills, they would be fine.
So witches are here to stay and i think most of you agree it's not a terrible thing, instead of nerfing them i think adding a creepy sound should suffice. Some kind of noise to make sure you know there close by, i think this would be a good enough as a nerf.

I don't care how hard they are, if they're gonna spawn everywhere in the overworld they need to nerf the drops. lol
Why?
I can get glow and red stone faster at the source. People seriously over estimate the spawn rate of the these guys.
One per night is generous in my experience so far.
Play on peaceful if you don't like "overpowered" witches.
Every time someone tells someone else to "play on peaceful" as a response to a legitimate gripe about a change to mob behavior, I want to throw a brick at them through the internet. Don't do that, even in jest. It just makes you look like another fanboy toolbag. I've seen your other posts, you are normally a reasonable person. Don't resort to this lame comeback.

No, no, no, wrong, wrong, wrong.
This is so very much the wrong way to solve the issue. Don't even put this crap into Mojang's collective head, lest they actually consider it.
If witch spawning is common enough that it's causing imbalance issues (which, while they are still rare, I believe it currently is), the solution is to re-limit witch spawning. Not to the degree it was before, as I'll be the first to admit that they were stupidly rare when they only spawned in their huts. But they could still be limited to certain areas or something, such that a player would have to do something to seek them out. My previous example was to only allow them to spawn in the new roofed forests or something.
Please, nerfing the drops or difficulty of this unique mob would be the completely wrong way to solve the issue. I can't stress that enough.

Why? Glowstone and redstone are hardly offensive or hard to get in the first place, and it's not like there are any unbalancing mechanics that can be preformed with either of them that take more than an hour of quarrying/nether farming as opposed to the time it takes to build a mob grinder and hopefully get a few pieces here and there. Even the dropped potions aren't very helpful in SSP, or that good on a PvP server.
I hope they nerf the spawn rate or make it only in certain biome(s). Exploring caves and abandoned mineshafts becomes much more difficult with the random witch spawning, poisoning you and then making you vulnerable to any other random mob who happens by. I've died several times due to this problem.
I like the new witches spawning feature. I hope they leave it in. Before 1.7 I had never met a witch in survival before. Also, it enabled me to get Redstone without having to travel super deep.

In my current superflat preset world I can get as many as 6-7 at a time spawning outside my house. Personally I like that they have been amped-up to spawn anywhere randomly. Adds an edge to the game that it previously lacked. Also makes for a more interesting trip back up the tunnel after a mining session. I've run into a few in tunnels and if you get caught without a bow they can pose a challenge. On more than one occasion I've had to block them off and regen some health before taking them on with a sword.

Idk, I just don't like that they drop glowdust or w/e, but for some reason I'm fine that villagers sell it. I just like mobs having ghetto drops I guess. lol
I've been clobbered by a few witches in caves, but usually found a hut not terribly far away so I assumed they roamed within a certain distance from home. Was this really a bug or Halloween feature?

It wasn't a comeback; I was lightening the mood. People get way too serious about the littlest things, sheesh. #firstworldproblems
Nerfing the drops is a bad idea. If a mob is (as many are complaining) too hard to kill, the drops should be proportionately rewarding. (just as one argument out of many)
Lightening the mood by insulting people is not cool. Anytime someone brings up possible issues about a mob being to strong, too common, too overpowered, or whatever there is always at least one person who jumps in to insult them or belittle them because they aren't as Godlike in this game as you are. It's not cool, and it's not even funny. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and we should be able to have a reasonable discussion without insulting each other. Let's just be cool with everyone and have a little understanding as to where other's are coming from.
That said I 100% agree that nerfing the drops or the witch mob itself is a bad idea. If you reduce the quality of the drops it makes the mob more op not less. And a difficult mob to kill should be rewarding to kill. Take away the reward and it becomes pointless to fight them or even seek them out. The original spawn restrictions were too tight, only in their hut, randomly in swamps. So you had to find a swamp and explore it to find no hut so you have to find another swamp and so on till you find one with a hut. Even then there wasn't always a witch in the hut. So they did need to spawn more frequently, however Mojang went too far, and took the lazy approach and made them spawn anywhere. And not only that but in groups of up to three. In my experience in 1.7.x I've rarely ever seen just 1 witch. when you are in a cramped area and you are already dealing with a small army of reg mobs, a team of 3 witches tossing potions at you while you are fighting everyone else off, is too much for most players and especially for new or casual players. I realize that for the more experienced players, who are not shy in bragging about how they regularly take on hundreds of mobs at a time without a scratch. It discourages those who aren't so experienced. I think the game should be balanced in a way that there is something for everyone, the hard core players can find challenges, and the new less experienced players won't be turned way, and can work on their skills and work up to taking on the bigger challenges. I'd like to see Witches spawning restricted to swamps and dark forests with a decent but slightly rare rate. But keep the mob as it is, don't nerf it's abilities, or drops. Just reign in the spawn conditions.
