In the future there may be username changing in Minecraft, I am going to list the negatives and positives.
Positives: 1. People could change there embarassing usernames (This would reduce Minecraft account sales for Mojang)
Negatives: 1. All accounts would require a special ID for bans on servers etc which may complicate the system.
2. Websites like MCBouncer which you can search bans using the players username would have to change to the new ID system which means all the current bans recorded on those websites would be obsolete.
3. All current bans on servers would not be valid anymore because they won't have the ID's yet, meaning thousands of hackers, griefers and cheaters will be back on servers and ruining many communitys.
4. If a person has trolled allot of people the community is aware not to associate with them, if the person is not initially banned they can change there username and troll those people again without them knowing. This would continue until they are banned.
5. The selling and buying of pre bought accounts would rise allot due to the fact of a custom name.
If you have anymore positive and negative suggestions, feel free to comment.
1. True. My first account name was truly horribru, "Samiak_" :l Simply abhorrent. Fuu fuu, I want a refund for that account DD;
3. They're planning on implementing player IDs, which means bans would still be valid. We'll just have to wait and see how they do it. My guess is they'll associate every currently known username with an ID, so even when they do change their name, the ID stays the same.
4. Just ban everyone. Besides, IPs are visible. Yes, some people have dynamic IPs, but it's still rather easy to tell people apart.
Yes but how do the servers get the IDS when someone changes there name.
Does anyone know if when a player changes their name if it still has to be a unique name not currently in the database? because I don't really like the idea of people going around as "RebD" as i've had this account for sometime now and I don't like the idea of joining a server and coping grief because some other "RebD" as been an .
My old nick is a reference to my old name, which I changed immediately after turning 18 two years ago. Always hated the thing, but I also hate anonymity - that's why I usually use my real name everywhere (Aadolf Kärki, hence DolfK).
Wait, so you chose your own name and you chose "Aadolf", like "Adolf"?
