EDIT: It seems apparent now that the arguement has been moved towards making these Zombie changes (along with other nerfs and buffs brought on by 1.6.1) to scale based on Difficulty rather than seeing them completely removed. TBH, this looks like the best solution for everyone right now.
My opinion is that this is tied for first place as my single least favorite "feature" of Minecraft. Plagues of zombies vs the new godawful boat controls; I can't make up my mind.
Good, I enjoy the challenge, and the xp. They're really not that difficult to fight of, you just have to keep your eye around you as they tend to be a distraction for sneaky creepers and skeletons!

It is smart to ignore the people who have bought your game. [/sarcasm]
Yes. Yes it usually is. They don't ignore them though. They politely turn their heads considering a vast majority of the player base for all games don't know what is best for the game.
Take zombies for instance. Everyone seemed to complain the mobs were passive and simple. They change it. Smaller numbers complained they were too difficult....
In survival.
SURVIVAL.
Interesting. See for me, the biggest issues I had before this patch were surviving lava and starving to death. Mobs were just a nuisance. Now, mobs are a serious aggravation and potential threat. What they should be. Why? Well, mainly because I'm playing on survIval. I want to have to survive when fighting mobs, not swat them away and continue building all the while shaking my head and asking myself why they are even in the game. If I had to ask myself this then I'm certain someone else did as well.
These complainers need to toughen up and embrace the change or offer valid reasons why tougher mobs shouldn't exist in survival. The rest is just standard whining with no reason. Well there is something good that comes from the complaints. It proves the player base generally doesn't know what is best. Of course occasionally single players have good ideas. I have to concede that.
This patch has caused me to build in totally different ways now. More interesting and careful ways. Its a GOOD thing. If it isn't a good thing for you then I suggest creative mode or offer reasons other than 'zombies suck, I build and get rushed so ded'

I must be clicking easy because that e looks fabulous then. I have seen more complaints than actual complements on this so far. Most of them aren't even asking for this change to go away and are just saying to make it scale to difficulty. Clearly your playstyle is the best one and must be forced upon everyone.

Its my opinion and if you want to combat it then answer it. Anything else is just forum warrior smack. Don't you think so?
Edit: I will give you a little bit of room though. You did mention scaling to difficulty. Ok, that's actually a great idea. I stand corrected. I also retract my above remarks in this post. Apologies.
You see more complaints because that is how the world works. The negative is always more visible. I like the new changes and am glad they aren't caving on this. If you don't like it switch to Peaceful, Creative or get a mod.

While I thank you for reading thoroughly I am still going to tell you why creative is not an option. Most of us who hate the change (Myself including.) don't hate it because it makes the game challenging. I am all for making the game harder in some way however I would like to be able to decide when. The way zombies work is a drastic change and if I click easy they should be toned down. I mainly play on easy for casual play and if I want to have a challenge I can switch it to hard. I can't do that now however and it really feels like I don't have a choice in how lightly I want to play. You can switch to hard and play the game your way but I have to deal with it on every difficulty. All I ask is that this change is affected by difficulty as well.

So I have to get out or suck it up to play because for some reason it can't be tied to difficulty? Why is your playstyle more valid than mine or anyone else. Even more with something that should have been affected by difficulty to begin with. Why is it that the way I want to play can only be done by mods when the game becoming harder is the same way. Your opinion must be the only answer right.

Well the difficulty scaling is possibly the best option we can drive at for Mojang. Clearly they have no wish to remove it; yet it continues to be a big issue for people. I believe scaling it only to Hard and restricting slightly it on Normal are our best options. TBH, for me personally they're not too bad to handle; it's just extremely punishing for those newly spawned and caught out in the night.
But this also brings up the way other's handle complaints. You can't just tell someone to shut up and change their difficulty (ironically just like the comment that updated a post above me) to something pathetically easy; we also want to play survival like it was ment (however you may interpret that) to be played. A single mob that spawns everywhere shoudn't stop that. We're not going to change to peaceful just because some person on their little PC doesn't like that we're complaining about the decisions their beloved developers make for a game we all play. Driving at developers as a community is what makes games better; and doing this for Minecraft is no exception. Need I remind you about ladders?
BTW, getting a mod to fix changes a large group dislikes is no solution either.
I play on hard so I don't have a problem with the zombies for the most part, it keeps me on my toes so I like that. That being said, I don't think that people trying to play EASY should have to deal with the endless aggro zombies.
Easy should appeal to the the most casual player, hard to the most dedicated of players, normal someplace in the middle that hits the majority. The difficulty should operate like a curve, as you master one you move on to the next level, and then the next.
I find it hard to believe that a new comer to the game, or a casual player, is going to find any enjoyment out of playing on the easy setting when having to deal with a zombie horde. It should be an option, that only takes place on normal or hard (maybe they only spawn reinforcements on hard, but still have sight and communication on normal).
It seems like an easy compromise so that everyone can enjoy the game that they want to enjoy playing. Yes there are options for mods, but that shouldn't be a requirement.
Okay, so in your mind it is okay for them to just add whatever they want, without the feedback of their players.
No, it's not. That's how you LOOSE a fanbase.I like the 1.6 zombies "TO AN EXTENT", but I feel they are a bit.... Much. Not as in difficulty, but in the quantity. Seriously, I'd like to see a variety in the mobs I fight, not endless waves of zombies. I'd play the Last of Us or the Walking Dead if I wanted to fight constant zombies, not Minecraft. It's going in the right idea, to make zombies an actual challenge, but fighting 20 zombies compared to 5 isn't a challenge... It's just annoying (Unless you're playing a CTM map, in which the new zombies break any CTM maps made before 1.6 by how ridiculous they are.)

I love the new skeletons and spider's. The new zombies aren't a challenge though, I can easily slice through 20 zombies, just like I could with 2-3. The issue isn't that's it's too difficult, it's that it's not adding difficulty, just an annoyance. All it does is waste your time slaying endless waves of zombies, and destroy the durability on your tools. All for what? Rotten Flesh? Lol. What Mojang SHOULD do is make it so if a zombies agros on you, it'll start sprinting after you (Just like zombie pigmen do, but the zombies have better AI.) Make it that if a zombie can spawn another zombie, it won't spawn behind you, and change the agro range from like 90 blocks to 32-48. Imagine the difference between have 20 slow walking zombies coming after you, or 7 or 8 zombies sprinting at you, and you can't run away because they run just as fast.
Maybe the complainers on Twitter were going about it in the wrong way.. most of the complaints about zombie mechanics I've seen haven't been saying they should be totally removed from the game, only adjusted, scaled to difficulty, or nerfed/removed in Easy mode only. I play on Normal on a private SMP server and while the zombies can be pretty annoying and I wouldn't mind them being tweaked if Mojang wanted to do so, it's not a huge issue for me because I'm already established in the world. I still don't think 6 year olds or grandmas playing on Easy should necessarily have to deal with it, though. I've experienced them as a tree-punching character starting a new world on Easy and found it to be excessive for that difficulty level.
It looks like someone on twitter already mentioned that the AI should be difficulty based, and there's no response to that so far. I think Dinnerbone only feels like listening to the side of the community that agrees with him. At the VERY least, I was hoping that the agro range would eventually be changed so it's scaled to difficulty, but I guess that's not going to happen, now is it?
