IMO 1.6 is one of the worst updates to date. It has the most bugs of any update as I can recall, and most of the stuff it adds isn't even necessary. Also, forget adding new, random, semi useless stuff like they've relied on in the past few updates, I think they should work on refining the stuff they already have, like adding colored glass a d making more uses for semi unuseable items such as gunpowder, slime balls, or sponge. Also, what's with the new zombie thing? It just makes it incredibly hard for first timers and is just annoying for pros. I mean, zombies don't have a lot of attacking power to begin with. So these hordes can't kill you much but they are an annoyance. They should have buffed a less common mob like cave spiders or silver fish and just upped the spawn rate for both. 1.6 is a bad update all in all, it created a lot more bugs and trouble than its worth.
Hey Creeperflame, I think you should refine your OP. Instead of a massive wall of text, divide it into paragraphs. Also, with the bugs: ALL of the updates have bugs. In the beginning of an update, there are ALWAYS bugs. That's why we have the bug tracker.
About refining the gunpowder and slimeballs, etc.: I agree. However, this isn't Suggestions, this is New Updates. Tell us in the Suggestions how you want us to change it.
Also, with the zombies: the spawning zombies thing is for Hard mode only, so n00bs won't hafta worry about it. Same thing with the silverfish, put it in the Suggestions.
It has the most bugs of any update as I can recall
Which are? Aside from the launcher issues that have nothing to do with the actual game, it's one of the least buggy updates so far. The most buggy update in history is by far 1.3.

and most of the stuff it adds isn't even necessary
As is the other stuff that's been added from the past 2 years. All new features are general improvements to the game, necessary or not.
.

They have been for the past few years, just adding stuff while doing so. There are very few items that are useless, and none of those items have came from the last few updates.
like adding colored glass
It's already been adressed by Dinnerbone why colored glass is not in the game. To many rendering bugs.
a d making more uses for semi unuseable items such as gunpowder, slime balls, or sponge
First time I've heard gunpowder be called "Unusable". Slime balls are for pistons and leads, pistons by themselves were a good enough use. The functionality of sponges was cut years ago due to flowing water.

First timers often don't even deal with Zombies because they hide in their base until they can actually take them on, like almost everyone on these forums did. Spiders did get buffed, they can spawn with potion effects.
1.6 is a bad update all in all, it created a lot more bugs and trouble than its worth.
Yet another "glass half empty" status about Minecraft 1.6.
Firstly, Minecraft 1.6 was a huge update that added a lot of new features to the game to enhance gameplay.
Yes, I agree with you that they should refine the 'stuff' they already have, but how boring would the update be if all it had was this:
+ Added new uses for Gunpowder
+ Added new uses for Sponge
+ Added new uses for Slimeballs
In my opinion, that would be horrible, and it bugs me that a lot of people are complaining about the updates we receive for free.
What I don't get, is that every update has bugs and you cannot single out Minecraft 1.6 for having them.
They haven't relied on 'semi-useless stuff', because this update was really big.
What they've done is enhanced our gameplay and given us more features to use in both survival and creative mode.
Okay, I'm just gonna say, I like the blocks that have been added in 1.6. However, everything else seems useless to people who want to make adventure maps, like myself...especially the zombie-spawning-zombie thing. And as for bugs? Well, I'm sure others have discovered the sprint lag, and there's another one: when a player sits on a donkey(or horse, not sure) and puts a saddle on it the first time, the player's POV flips.
Also, Before this update came out there wasn't a lot of news on it.
I'm guessing the developers just had to come up with something
To keep us on our toes.
IKR the 1.6 launcher is TERRIBLE. The only things that are good are name tags, horses, leads (THEY ARE THE BEST THING TO KILL MOBS WITH) and the bug fixes. Also please tell me how to get a pic for my account on MC Forums. PLEASE TELL ME!

This is probably one of the weakest arguments ( some don't even offer arguments ) for 1.6 being a bad update. You can't expect every update to be big and you can't expect everything to apply to YOU. "more bugs" will be fixed (hopefully). "trouble than it's worth" just because YOU don't take any interest in the new features?.
If Mojang would fix all bugs and add a way to toggle of regional difficulty I would be ok with that update... But since they are stubborn about regional difficulty I need to ask one of our server devs to create a plugin allowing to toggle it off. Skeletons wearing full diamond, burst firing power V flame I arrows and then dropping nothing aint fun in SMP...
The server you're on ( I've been there before ) is kind of hardcore in a way :P. Someone said that regional difficulty wasn't really implemented and I'm sure none of us know the limitations or maximums that regional difficulty can reach or not reach.
With vanilla, not everything can be toggled. That's what mods and plugins are for. You can't be angry at Mojang for that. After all it's survival yet it's a sandbox so change whatever you want even using outside sources.
In my opinion, the coal blocks; hay bales; resource packs; nametags; the lava fix; less annoying swords in Creative; the removal of lakes from generating in deserts; the new potion effects, and the new commands/gamerules were pretty necessary, as they DID improve upon things already in the game.
In short: no, I don't think this update was useless at all.
Gold apple nerfs, zombies spawning within 2 blocks of me in full lighting, no crafting recipes for some of the horse items, horses can't swim, horses noclip, untamed horses can't breed.
Plays like a snapshot, indeed the "Worst Update Ever".
Considering the final release is not yet complete, with another 30 bug fixes coming later today, most of these are likely to be sorted.
Regarding need for more content I simply don't think people recognise the work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure the progress of future versions, for example a complete background overhaul of the launcher. This in itself has fixed multiple other bugs and leads the way to future versions and saving us effort with downloading updates.
Some of the simple fixes in this update are some of my favourite yet: coal block, lava fix, nametags, sword in creative (IT'S NOT A BUG), respiration seeing underwater, love the health/hunger and chests in nether fortresses

1 Mules: u can place chest on them so u can carry more stuff etc.
2 Horses: when u breed horses depending on there buff u can get what i call a sonic horse u can explorer much faster you'r world.
3 Lead: Whit this making farms has never being easier.
P.s: Bugs can be fix easily once the community helps finding them.
Adios Compadre.
