It shouldn't be a problem to please the small minority of people whining for the game to be harder in a game with multiple difficulty levels yet Mojang consistently fails to get it right.
Want people to stop whining about how easy the game is? Make Hard mode 1 hit kill without armor (4 hits full diamond armor), and see how people shut up. Instead Mojang makes changes that affect all difficulty levels and ultimately don't make the game harder at all - just more annoying.
1 hit kills would not be the solution. The Forums will be so full of compliant threads that non complainers will abandon the forums and it will ruin the community as a whole.
Still not sure why the new mechanics can't be restricted to Hard mode. I understand that people want to play that way. No one's asking for super zombies to be removed from the game outright. They shouldn't act like that on Easy and Normal though. My girlfriend and I have both stopped playing for now until mobs have the option of going back the way they were before (without going back to 1.5. We both adore the new horses). We enjoy maintaining our base, digging for diamonds, building mob harvesters, and trading with villagers. As of now the game is pretty much unplayable for the two us.
I find it absolutely hilarious when people say "Then go back to a previous version!" like that will completely solve EVERYTHING. Maybe, just maybe, some people LIKE some of the 1.6.1 features but don't want to have to deal with an Eldritch curse that brings every corpse within a square mile radius to attack the player. I could MAYBE understand this on Hard (Although it's still "fake" difficulty, which means it just makes the game more annoying.), but on the difficulty that is supposed to be the easiest, it makes no sense, as the "pushed into a corner without any hope of survival" problem still persists.
I say it isn't real difficulty because it brings nothing new to the table. Sure, having a zombie spawn SOMETIMES when you hit them makes sense, because it'll cause them to swarm ONLY if you engage them. But with the whole "They will see you with the eyes of a hawk and hunt you down." mechanic, you have no choice whatsoever but to deal with them
"But, Smurf! Why don't you just stay inside at night!?"
Because they decided to add a new "feature" that says 'LOL CAN'T SLEEP SPIDER ON YOUR WINDOW LOLOLOL". The obvious solution is to go outside and just stab the spider, but now you can't, because you have the entire human population standing around your house just waiting to eat your arms. Also, some people who ARE into taking on mobs go outside to go mob hunting. With these new zombies, you can't decide "Hey, I wanna fight these zombies." and start fighting them as they grow larger in number with every hit. The game makes that choice for you, and summons a torrent of undead to ravage your anus, even if you didn't want that.
I would be fine with the zombie detection range change if there weren't nonsensical spawning changes alongside it.
Damaging zombies and looking away from zombies should not spawn more zombies.
Zombies are supposed to be the push-over enemy that only people starting out would have problems with and easily get killed.
Once a player gets good gear, the beginning enemies become easy to kill; however, in games other than minecraft, there are usually new enemies that appear that are difficult for players with that gear.
Then, when players get good enough gear to deal with those enemies, new enemies appear that challenge players with that gear.
Because Minecraft does not do this, Minecraft is doomed to get easier the longer a player is in a world.
Buffing the current mobs does not change this; if they make the current mobs difficult for people with good gear, the people starting a world will have a much harder time.
They need to implement new mobs that will spawn when players linger in areas for a long time.
Heck, we already have mobs they can do this with that don't spawn often or are in the code but unimplemented: witches, cave spiders, spider jockeys, wither jockeys, and undead horses.
But really, Minecraft needs new mobs.
They supposedly implemented regional difficulty, and yet new, difficult mobs don't spawn when a player lingers.
New mobs are always welcome in my book, especially since Minecraft has only like twenty or thirty mobs.
I would be greatly satisfied if Mojang implemented a handful of mobs that would be a challenge for players with good gear.
In my opinion, I would like Mojang to really add in a /gamerule command to toggle firstly whether zombies would spawn other zombies, and secondly if spiders spawn with potion effects. Maybe it would be called "doMobDifficulty". I dunno. Just tell me if u like it.

I like it.
As someone who enjoys features like hardcore survival mode, I find it a refreshing new feature. I had always found it odd that mobs didn't spawn in groups in the first place.
If you don't like zombies, you can always use trap doors in early game play, and then iron doors later. zombies completely ignore both of those.
if you don't like testificates being killed, i'd recommend having your base outside of the chunk loading range for said village (usually 300 blocks away is a safe bet). Zombies won't kill them when you're not close because the area isn't even loaded at that point.
Then, when you want to trade with them, do it during the daytime and/or switch it to peaceful mode.
Consider enhancing your testificate village to withstand even the most brutal zombie attacks. Have fun with it.
Anyway, my point is there are ways to have this not even be an issue during game play.
I agree to an extent that it should their spawn ratio should have something to do with the difficulty setting, but I haven't had any major issues with it. For me it was a pleasant surprise.
With the new minor update that drains your food, it'd be very helpful to have a break to eat food instead of having zombies constantlly pour in, it can get very annoying that now zombies are the main monsters you get to fight at night, and their rotten flesh drop is completely useless.
I guess to some people it could be fun, but to me i just hate when im fighting a skeleton, then my food bar drops, so i hide behind a tree to eat and theres 2 zombies walking there to backstab me and drain my food bar even more.
There's not much for me to enjoy when combat gets into the same loop over and over. It might have been better if their drops were good enough to make fighting them a reward in itself for the drops, or if they were fun to fight, but really zombies don't give a lot to enjoy. They're annoying, they're everywhere, they're unrewarding, and when death comes, death feels cheap.
I've just downloaded 1.6.1 and all three nights i've had have started with almost no mobs then zombies after zombies after zombies (at least 4 on me at all time) for the rest of the night. I'd like to know if it's a bug in the spawn mechanic that make zombies spawn way more often, if it's a feature or if I'm just THAT unlucky.
Thanks
Also this happens in caves and dark places, I see zombies more often that other mobs ( like 3 to 1)
My only problem with playing Peaceful mode to get away from excessive zombification is that I can't then kill slimes to make sticky pistons.
I don't mind a greater difficulty, even in Easy mode, since I grew up with Nintendo 8-bit games. However, I do mind the preponderance of zombies when there are vampires, werewolves and mummies they could be adding to complement them.
I don't really have a problem with the changes, but I play on hard so it makes sense to me. I don't think I'd be so chuffed if I were still playing on normal though.
The only part of the whole set of changes to zombies I don't like is the spawning because they're not being looked at; what's up with these frickin zombies? Are they lonely?
Okay, so I have a fence that is eight blocks away from my house and it surrounds the whole house. My houses walls are two blocks thick, and because of the "zombies spawn more zombies" feature, they can spawn in my house and wreak havoc on my villagers that live with me. They can even spawn in the upper floors. So now I have to make iron golem guards in every single room because my 100% secure house is now vulnerable to enemies that should not be able to get in.
If a zombie takes damage from lava or from drowning, does it also have a chance to spawn another zombie? Several players on our server have mob farms and I'm wondering if zombies are likely to spawn outside of the enclosed area?

Stupid feature.
