Dinnerbone has hinted that the potion effect changes may be reverted to their previous (reasonable) power.
If Dinnerbone did this, I would be satisfied. Well, rather, not mildly upset by the current changes. (Really, i'm scratching my head as to why Dinnerbone decreased the power of health potions. Seems unnecessary since they made glistering melons more expensive.)
The new golden apples seem pretty good, actually, health boost combined with armor equates to a lot of extra resistance. (Even more resistance... uuuuuuugh, we're invulnerable enough already. I like the health boost effect but jeez, we're nearly invincible at the moment with armor and we don't need to become even more invincible.)

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?

We are so invincible that little more isn't making it any worse.
But we must choose between Invicibility and invisibility.
But when fighting against players invisibility is good choise (If it rains and you have sharp 5 sword+ strenght 2 potion.)
You can use golden apples with invisibility too.
1) A golden apple is only half as effective as leather armor, which needless to say is not at all effective.
2) If you're attacking someone and you are invisible, chances are they will be the nigh-invincible sort of player. Nothing is stopping them from having Strength II and a Sharpness 5 diamond sword, either. If they have a Sharpness 5 sword, they will deal 6-9.5 hearts of damage per hit, which will kill you in two hits whether you have a golden apple active or not. With Strength II active as well, it jumps to 9-12.5 hearts of damage per hit which will almost always kill you instantly unless you have a golden apple, and even then there's still a chance you will die in one hit. It's a lot of damage against your enemy, but the thing is, they can take a few hits from that thing and you can't. In addition, if they catch you and they fire off a shot from a Power IV/V bow, you're dead unless you have a golden apple consumed and barely alive if you do have one active.
3) The Health Boost effect makes you more visible when invisible, though not as much as armor does.

0: Suprise them with invisibility, strenght 2, and speed 2 (If it is raining you have advantance).
1: lava bucket to slow them down and make you harder to see.
2: throw them with 1 long poison, 1 weakness, 1 slowness and 5 instant damage 2 potions.
3: spam with sharpness 5 sword (Or throw more instant damage 2 potions).
4: You have change of winning if you suprise them.
5: If you win you will get their stuff (If they get out of lava). If you lose you lose your sword.
If you make them panic you will win they are much slower than you, poisoned, weakened and in lava
And may not have time to use that strenght 2 potion to counter weakness.
Instant damage 2 spamming is easiest way to kill player with protection 4 armor.
The main thing is id like the nugget apple back. It was one of the more balanced healing items, and fit the price well. Great for fighting poison or as a minor pick me up, but small enough in effect the price made sense.
I do think if this keeps up this will be coined the "difficulty update".
We need 4 tiers of apples
1: red apple
2: Nugget apple
3: Ingot apple
4: Block apple (OPple)
this. And de-nerf regen, seriously.
Honestly this update is doing too much too fast to buff difficulty. Making regening consume hunger is nuts and will be annoying especially for new spawns. And the giannt agro buff? Ugh.
The existing apples (and potions) should all be left alone. Content in the mid tier should be ADDED instead of nerfing stuff in reaction to (and trying to cater to) UHC. This will just add grinding.

Given that being unable to be seen is a lot worse than being (nearly) unable to be hurt, I believe that Invincibility is a much better choice.

I make textures and stuff.
Current maintainer of the 3x texture pack.
Abandonware artist of Manely Little Horses.
Yes that's right, remove all choice of play style, limit players to only play survival one way. Who ever said Minecraft was a sandbox like game?
You have 5 choises.
-mining.
-hunting zombie pigmans.
-Overworld gold farm.
-nether gold farm.
-Do not use golden apple.
Indeed and ooohoho so true! /)

Honestly i question how this new stuff is anymore balanced.
