Sure we know its not scientifically possible but small stuff you can dismiss and other stuff is a little too crazy to see with a straight face.
I would say the sheep thing is too crazy. The golden apples on the other hand, think of it as caramel apple - gold being caramel. You're just adding more caramel to the recipe. Not that crazy.
The regeneration nerf is kinda iffy, as it no longer helps against wither and poison effects. You now NEED regeneration IV from the uber apple to counter with/ poison II. Which quiet frankly is absurd. And getting rid of the nugget apple is not the way to go, it completely removes it's purpose as a small healing item.
Oh, and stop implementing mods Mojang, you already gave us horses from mo'creatures, you don't need to give us a mod that is rarely used.

On a second note, it may take 1 second to drink the potion, but it takes no time at all to throw it. Instead of drinkable healing potions, just make the throwable and chuck them at your feet when you need it. Works much better.
It costs 9 times the gold and heals half as much. So very roughly, its now 1/18th what it used to be. You can debate the math there but who would bother with it now with the cost/reward? As for potions they already had to be consumed which means no attcking or even dodging, so odds are you will get hit drinking anyway losing some of your gain.. So yeah i think healing items might as well of been removed.
Oh and splash health deals almost nothing aparently.
Minecraft community is the worse community I have ever seen! No matter what happens, someone HAS to complain... The golden apple wasn't really useful in Minecraft anyway (other then the healing villagers) You guys just don't know when to shut up don't you? Let jeb and dinnerbone do what they want. Its their game. Just deal with it. The wolrd doesn't revolve around you guys. sheesh...

if you think it was bad before why is making it 1/18th the value ok? And you dont even give a reason for the nerf. Defending for the sake of defending only causes problems... just like apposing for the sake of apposing, which fyi, we have real reasons.
It's good that Dinnerbone is keeping an eye on the community's responce to changes. But it's also worth remembering that Minecraft is ever changing. This could be just clearing the way for additional potions or crop items.
I think that the new apple recipe and potion changes should be activated by game rule. Heck I don't know why there isn't just a /uhc command that adds in the changes to health and golden apple/potion crafting/effects. They could even make it into a gamemode you could select in Single Player too at level creation.

I wouldn't mind using gold bars but only having one heart regenerated is just ridiculous. Two and a half hearts is more reasonable. I will admit to never using golden apples though. I have used potions before.
Just tried the new snapshot the fix makes the apples definetly better. I wish there was a disable hunger command.
I find it funny that people are saying that this makes the game harder. Golden apples are nigh-useless, especially on easy mode where you can let natural regen take care of damage

(since damage scales with difficulty, but regeneration doesn't). I can only see this affecting UHC, which makes no sense because A) you're catering to a mod and B.) you're just extending the length of time where you don't have an effective healing source.

Which means that since damage scales with difficulty, you will "use" more hunger on harder difficulties as well. In addition, since it uses hunger, healing faster will save hunger too, making the golden apple have some general use.
I don't see why the nerf was made in the first place, though. It's pretty pointless, the first tier of golden apples only heals 2 hearts and comes after it would be useful (the time it would be useful being at the start, before you get iron armor; chances are you would get 24 iron before you get 8 gold).

Seems like the best option here though would have been to just ignore nerfing golden apples and whatnot for now and just nerf the affectiveness of armor. Now you're going to take more damage and the most reliable source of healing is nerfed, making the other two healing sources more viable. (Scaled to difficulty, of course; armor would be slightly less effective on harder difficulties, I suppose, but increased mob damage already does that... still don't fully understand how the altered health regen from hunger works).

They should just make a whole new difficulty for hardcore players. It would save more time than constantly changing stuff then changing them back.
