You know...
All you have to do is get the old texture file, save it, and put it back in the game when the update comes out. It's THAT SIMPLE.
And anyway, I like the new texture. The block is actually defined in some way, before this it was just a mishmash of blue cut into a block shape. Now the texture actually fits with the block.
I am just amazed that people are suddenly coming out and saying that they like the old lapis texture. Over Minecraft history lapis, glass, cobblestone and gravel were always ripped on as the ugliest blocks in the game. The way I see it is that we've got three down and one to go. Now, like cobblestone after its re-texture, I expect we will see A LOT more lapis used in builds. That was the main problem with lapis before. It was a decorative block that didn't have many decorative applications, which made it useless to many players.
This, exactly this. I bet the people that say they now prefer the old one would've hated it back then.

Some people enjoy change, while some people don't. I don't really have anything good, nor bad, to say about any changes in general. I just go along with the flow.
The new texture doesn't look bad. Makes it stand out a little more in structures.
Nope its more like
20 % we want it back
40 % I kinda like it/i dont mind the new texture
40 % Stop whining about such a small change/ If you dont like it use a texture pack
Ok ill do the math for you
We want the old texture back: 9
Stop whining/Use a texture pack: 15
I like the new texture/I dont mind: 21
Actual posts about this topic: 45
So that leaves us with:
We want the old texture back: 20%
Stop whining/Use a texture pack: 33.3 %
I like the new texture/I dont mind: 46.7 %
For god sakes, is there no low to which this self-entitled community would not wallow in? Whine about this, whine about that. Whine about every little detail that doesn't conform to your fictional utopia of perfection. I don't care for the current gravel, I liked the old one better. So what did I do?
I took the old gravel, I went into the .jar, and I edited the terrain.png. I changed the default texture of gravel, by myself. Instead of rattling on about something so freaking trivial and so easily amendable with naught more than a few minutes of easy effort, why not actually apply some of that easy effort into a legitimate resolution of the problem, hm?
You'll actually get somewhere then instead of another over-exaggerated drama-queen of a topic that's the equivalent of shouting at a brick wall and expecting it to do something. Fix it yourself, edit your default textures, problem solved.
Considering the new texture pack format, all we need is someone here to nab the old lapis texture and post it here. Copy over into texture pack, done, right?
Saving that video for future arguments though. Haven't seen that great of an overreaction in months.
I personally like the new texture for the lapis block I will say this "Good job Mojang. Good Idea all the way." And to others who are like "change the texture in the .jar!" some don't have archiving programs, and/or don't have enough money for them (if they cost something.)
How I go into the .jar:
I rename the .jar to .zip, double click on the .zip which opens it, and BAM! I'm in. When I'm finished I just rename it back to .jar
No offense intended to all those who might be offended at all. Just pointing it out.
Not everyone has file extensions showing. Also, winrar is free to use.
People, you are arguing over one of the most infinity customizable games on the internet. And you have been for days. If you don't like a texture, change it. If you don't like a feature, remove it.

Wow.. Just wow... I actually like the new texture, I never really used lapis to build with, but now that it has those clean-cut chiseled edges and improved shading, maybe I will use it for kitchen floor tiling! Seriously people... Stop complaining about ridiculously small changes...

It gets a result.

...but that's just like, my opinion, man.
Fixed that for you.

Why do people flip out about texture changes though?
Nostalgia.
But as far as I know they're fine with horses, and those are an actual change. This is just one image file that is incredibly easy to switch back.
