I'm still having a problem exactly like this and Placing a block next to it doesn't work either. The only way I have been able to depower it. Is by breaking the redstone block
I found it also a few weeks back. Was very disappointed.
When I researched if this was a bug, it became quite clear from the responses I read that it isn't a bug at all. Sadly, you cannot push redstone blocks vertically with pistons I guess, which I thought was the whole idea of having the redstone blocks in the first place - so you could insert the block for powering something and then retract it to unpower it.
Maybe it works from the side, but I like to build ground-level stuff and power them from below so the messy stuff is all hidden.
MInecraft often disappoints me these days, but that's just me I guess. People tell me I whine too much. Oh well.
If you place a block next to the piston, it will update it's state.
This actually doesnt work.. it stays powered from the block above it.. not to mention that if you break the alternative power source which is next to the piston it causes a block update anyway so if it DID revert as you said, it would have happened during this.. please try it yourself and then state.. otherwise don't talk about things/problems you don't know or have not experienced..
I'm thinking I'm not the only person who has noticed this.
When you place a sticky piston facing upwards (Only upwards) with a redstone piston on top it won't power by itself.
Normal, right?
If you go and activate the piston with an alternative source it will push the redstone block up.
Also normal?
If you deactivate your alternative source of redstone power the piston will remain up.
I don't think that should happen.
I'm pretty sure it's powering the wooden part of the piston like it's a block, which is powering the center part of the piston.
That is all
This is a "bug" that is used in many BUD (Block Update Detector) switches. I personally think I should be patched because SethBling has BUDs that don't use this bug, but it would still people off. There's nothing Mojang can really do about this.
I have been working on a computer for a week now and because of this bug, all of the memory cells need to be replaced...
Mega necropost.
Since I feel like adding to the discussion, try using a cauldron filled with water instead of a redstone block. Put a comparator beside the cauldron when it's pushed up, and it'll output some power.

I figured it out and I'm not using that piston rs nor latch for diodes anymore. I am using D latches. I know what bud switches are. They are utterly useless to me.

First,
Second, you're building a redstone computer, yet you don't know about BUDs?

Try putting a slime block between the piston and redstone block.
