minecraft is definitely not headed in the right direction. not to mention they're trying to get away with selling a half-broken game for $30, which is almost as bad as the WarZ scam.
Half-broken? What are you talking about? Be thankful for FREE updates every few months.P.S.: THANK YOU O.P. for saying this. It's a nice break from people like MartyLoup.
Minecraft is getting better I'm sick of people saying it's getting worse! It's clearly heading in headed the right way. reply your opinion below please.
You sir are brilliant. I completely agree that MC just gets better and better - people who complain that each time it gets an update are getting more and more ridiculous and annoying. I am starting to wish that the admins for these forums would just ban any topics/posts that do nothing more than hate on MC... It's like, if you don't like it, then why do you even bother downloading it, let alone waste our time and the time of the staff complaining about it on these forums?
I agree especially about excluding the terrain... but won't an update fix/add/change something with the terrain? So win-win!
There's no confirmation on it. Making 1.6 a terrain update would be a wise decision on Mojang's part, but I don't know what terrain has to do with mobs (unless they're lumping structures in to the update as well).

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
Thank you. Mojang could've stopped the updates, or charged for them, but instead they give them out for free. It disappoints me when I see threads about this feature being bad or that feature should be removed.

I'm sure that they were payable to get, the people would complain even more...
I just enjoy playing Minecraft and I've been excited for every update since I started playing. I simply can't see eye to eye with the people who fight for the update they want to have rather than what Mojang is going to implement. Sure, there are certain things recently I believe are lacking somewhat (that's some Redstone Update you have there, with its one logic gate) but there isn't a single thing in Minecraft that I actually detest.
The redstone improvements are good, might make me use it more. If LAN issues get fixed aswell and lightning gets improved, if even slightly, I'm happy.
First of all I am NOT a Minecraft hater by any means. Minecraft has been my favorite game for years now, and probably always will be.
BUT I can say that ever since 1.3 I have had mixed feelings about the updates. The one MAJOR thing that has happened to Minecraft that I still think is stupid and worthless, is the LAN feature. I know that there are a few people out there that actually have more than one member of their house that plays MC, but there are a LOT more people that don't. Sacrificing the smooth, lagless 1.2.5 SSP engine for LAN was just stupid IMO.
That's because you clearly don't understand the purpose of the merge. It wasn't for LAN. LAN was a side effect. It was NEEDED before they could create the Mod API. No merge = No Mod API.

It was something that had to be done for the mod API, though I don't see why they couldn't have removed it while adding the api.
Not really, or at least 1.5 didn't. Mojang is improving things that are good instead of things that are bad/mediocre (the Pretty side of the Pretty Scary update as well as the Redstone update improved building and redstone which are already spectacular... the Scary side is another story, those features ranged from mediocre to terrible). While it's good that Mojang started improving instead of adding auxiliary features, they still need to improve the RIGHT things.
You need to understand something though: You may not like the terrain and such (which I've seen you talk about numerous times on the forums) or the stuff in the Pretty Scary update, but there are enough that DO like it, and that's where Mojang can run into some problems. There's always plenty of people complaining about the terrain, but if there's one thing I've learned from being on who knows how many gaming related forums, it's this: The negative players are always.... always... ALWAYS.... without any exception.... the most vocal. People tend to want to vent when they're angry or frustrated, and use the forums when they feel like complaining. Positive players tend to avoid such places.... because of all of the complaining. I know many people that are very into Minecraft, but I'm the *only* one of the group that can tolerate this forum; the rest of them wont touch it with a 345375923759 mile pole, because they think it's an incredibly terrible place due to all of the complaining and flaming and such.
For everyone that dislikes the terrain, for example, there will be someone that does like it. Such as myself, I think it's pretty good; I believe it could do with a bit more height variation in some areas, but I do NOT want to see the game go back to "crazy mountains everywhere". Crazy mountains can be cool the first few times, but when you've run into the 358973th one on the same damn map, they really stop being interesting, and this was my major issue with the game until the biomes changed it all. And it was the same damn bright green mountain with sparse random trees EVERY FREAKING TIME. Not to mention that super-lumpy sections are ultra-annoying to traverse, and I'm not made of patience (which is to say, I dont have any). My only complaint about the biomes and the current worldgen is that I think there could be more types of biomes. Beyond that though.... I really dont have any issues with it, and I'm well aware I'm not the only one.
If Mojang makes changes to go back towards the way you want it to be (the terrain, that is, but this can apply to many things), the older way, the current group of complainers will likely calm down..... and INSTANTLY be replaced with a new group of complainers who are just as vocal and angry, who DID NOT want it changed, and who then absolutely will not pipe down about it. Mojang is well aware of this particular problem, as Jeb has pointed out a few times.
As for the current update.... I think it's kinda unfinished, and that they didnt go far enough with the concepts used in 1.5, but still, it indeed WAS a step in the right direction. This update overall was something that alot of players had wanted for a long time.
As for the OP, I agree completely. The game is, to me, doing very well, and continues to get better all the time. And I say this as someone who is usually extremely negative and who hates damn near everything. I wish the game was more challenging without having to use mods (ALOT more challenging), and I think the Wither and Beacon are bloody stupid, but beyond that, I have no problems with the game.
Indeed it is, people are just disgruntled that it's slow to get there. They forget that compared to major dev teams who might have 50-75 or even 100 people working on a game, they only got 1-2 guys doing code monkey work at any random time while another 1 splits between supervising and helping. It's gonna take longer in other words, because Mojang is still a small time company with small teams.
The work they're doing is great though, they're taking minecraft back to its roots where it needs it and rebuilding it from the ground up.
Meant future updates.
Oops late post

They are improving lighting engine

...but that's just like, my opinion, man.
fix'd
It's heading the right direction. I think that's what mojang is going for.
Want to play Minecraft SSP like Spaceboot1? Try my modpack, all mods made by me, Spaceboot1!
There's always going to be dumb stuff but some other people like it. Dumb stuff become great stuff when the next update comes
