So, the logic I'm getting from this issue is:
Inconvenient = Good
Convenient = Must be Nerfed
I don't even rely on wheat specifically... I tend to keep my food income diverse. With the amount of exploration and walking I do, the large stack of bread I get from a good wheat harvest dries up pretty quickly. I'd really rather keep bonemeal like it is, but I'd even concede to let bonemeal advance three or so crop stages.
Perhaps bonemeal is a bit overpowered. So? Is making it less potent really going to make the game more fun, or just more annoying?
Annoying. Maybe there should be crop bugs lol idk just want the old bonemeal back*cries*
What people forget is that bonemeal doesn't magically appear in their chests. You have to kill skeletons first, which isn't that easy. Once you've accumulated 21 bonemeal, you've already starved or started a farm. If you have a mob grinder, this won't even affect you. Better ideas for bonemeal (most aren't originally mine):
1:1 crafting or smelting
1-3 needed for wheat
2-4 needed for trees
Use as actual fertilizer on the ground; everything on it grows faster
Still have too much? Toss 6/7 of it into lava. Works well.

For those with mob grinders it's an annoyance. Maybe there should be a way to craft enchanted bonemeal or something Maybe Bonemeal + Raw Fish = asdfghjk;(AKA the one use insta grow stuff)
As long as it's still insta-grow anything in creative, I don't really care about what it does in survival. I only use bonemeal in creative. When I've finished a pretty farmhouse with surrounding fields and I want to take nice screenshots, but I don't want to wait for all the wheat to match and be nice looking. But in survival, I hardly ever use it, except for growing the occasional melon stem.
I understand why Mojang has done this. In a way, it does make Minecraft more realistic.
But at the same time , it takes a RIDICULOUS amount of bonemeal.
Perhaps there should be other ways to grow your crops, other drops/items that have increased strength, and others that don't
Add some wheat / water in barrels for beer with nausea wobbly effect and its a party! =D
I love this idea actually. It sounds silly, but imagine this. Alcohol in real life has a positive effect and an associated negative effect, right? What if in Minecraft, getting drunk lessens your night vision, makes your vision fuzzy in general, adds a wobbly effect, AND increased the rate at which you receive XP from all activities? And the more you drink, the stronger the negative effects, but the positive effects cap out much sooner, if even having multiple stages at all. That way you're giving the right message to kids too: drink in moderation! It could be that you combine wheat and slime to get fermented wheat, and then add that to a cauldron of water to make beer....
Bone meal has been WAY over powered for WAY too long.
It was only overpowered if you were obsessed with Minecraft becoming about surviving instead of thriving.
...and fishing.
Isn't as good as people claim it is, and is boring as all hell. Also requires killing a multiple Spiders which isn't easy when you're fighting for your life.
People need to stop justifying the Bonemeal nerf by saying "make a skeleton farm" or "I have chests of Bones" when people who do have that many Bones wouldn't suffer a famine if all of those Bones just disappeared. Ironically, those same people are the ones calling Bonemeal OP because it could instantly grow food.

I'm starting to doubt the side of opposing the nerf.... :/

Actually if anything, a slight "resistance" effect. Alcohol has always been known as a pain killer after all. or JUST nausea for the lols.
Also to peoples arguments for this nerf...
All these are implying implications that shouldn't be implied.
>implying people have a bed the first night
>implying people have a bunch of animals around the first night
>implying people have a body of water nearby
>implying people will have a sword of looting their first few days (Serious I'm dumbfounded somebody said this. If you have this you don't give a rat about bones anyway.)
>implying having a full stomach is OP.
>implying people should NEED to make giant dirt constructs just to have a farm and not die the first few days
>implying realism for crops is good (Trees I understand since it spawns over 20 blocks. But wheat is wheat)
>Implying people will find a skeleton spawner their first night, if at all
>implying this nerf does anything good for anyone besides "hey cool, there's green sparkles and this takes longer!"
Seriously. Everyone whos been arguing this has essentially been thinking NOT in terms of a beginner, (without being dismissive, implying you just need to shut up and deal with it) but in the terms of endgame scenarios. If you think that way, ANYTHING IS OP.
Hey, you know enchanted diamond armor makes you invincible to skeletons and creepers, and a sharp 5 is a 1 hit kill. we REALLY NEED to nerf these.
And arguments for other food sources, the only reason seems to be "Well wheat should be a RICH mans food, and take a bunch of work!".
For the 15th time, this is FOOD we are talking about. Something that every single mine-craft guy needs to survive. Even more than stone tools (or even crappy wood ones for that matter). Claiming making food is OP is like claiming an infinite ammo pistol in left 4 dead is OP. Sure its "easy", but its nowhere near as good as the rifle / shotgun, and just because its unlimited doesn't mean you want to rely on it forever. Or AT ALL.
I don't see it as a hindrance but more as an annoyance that is unnecessary. I don't rely on wheat but I do rely on potatoes and carrots. The 7 bonemeal thing is affecting all crops.
Dunno if it has been posted already, but maybe instead of only going up one stage, using bonemeal on crops would make it go up 2 or 3 stages randomly, or even 4 if you're lucky.
This.
Also trees NEED to require more meal than crops...otherwise it makes no sense, realism OR game-play wise.

Also why is the question about trees being easier to force grow being avoided by EVERYONE? I've asked this 4 times, no answer, and I even have a thread about it. This seems unrealistic, and really im better off bone mealing saplings for apples.
I think people agree that that it is stupid, and it is so obviously stupid that it needn't be said.
But I don't think that there was ever a problem with using Bonemeal to grow trees.
You get what? Wood. Not Diamonds or Iron or anything that will actually benefit you in a significant way, but Wood. You can also get Wood by (instead of killing a Skeleton, getting his Bones, crafting them into Bonemeal, planting a Sapling, and using Bonemeal) walking up to a tree and punching it. How is it OP to get some fricking Wood? Oh boy, more blocks... not like you'll be lacking in stacks of Cobblestone by the time you get a bunch of Bones...
The nerf to Bonemeal growing trees is dumb because there is literally no problem with Bonemeal growing some Wood.

See, I can see for TREES having a nerf. It instantly spawns 20 some odd blocks, and you could potentially change an entire land scape in minutes.
Wheat though, well...its food. Big deal. someone can stomp it into oblivion anyway.

Made a board and well people gave some points

Yes: Makes Bones more useful
No:
Crop bonemeal sucks
Breaking tree farm a lot

How does nerfing bone meal make it more useful?
Does not compute.
