I will say they must balance the wither in regards for multiplayer. Right now you can build one right outside the house of someone you don't like, and its GG. even more so if they don't have equipment to kill it, which is almost always.
Sadly, Zombies got their damage nerfed. Again. In the snapshot, they now deal 2 hearts instead of 3, requiring them to hit you 5 times in order to kill. Not counting armor.
I really want to know what's with mob damage being nerfed whenever they get an AI update.

Yes but as stated by many others, Minecraft is a game that lets you build your wildest desires... with the catch that you must gather the necessary supplies for said creation(s).
Having though go through so much effort, strain, and fear makes you love that solid gold house even more.
You didn't just grab the gold and build. You had to survive. That's Minecraft. After a certain point in Beta, it got WAY too easy. Minecraft slipped somewhat away from this idea of "value".
Kinda like this.
Idea A - You walk into a cave, find diamonds. Build armor. How much do you value it? Eh... Some
Idea B - You walk into a cave, only to find a army of monsters trying to end you. You struggle, die a few times...but after a while you become skilled and finally make it to those diamonds and bring them to the surface alive. How much do you value them now? A hell of a lot.
When one puts work into something, they value it more.
+ The game used to be far more difficult. I know this for a fact. With Full armor protection, 2 skeletons could kill you in less than 10 seconds if you didn't use the walls and cover to get close enough to attack. I REMEMBER skeletons were the bane of my minecraft life.

Yeah, they are too slow to merit such low damage. Honestly there damage needs to be much higher. Like 5 or 6. Sure they are slow still...but you had better not of mess up and get smacked in the face by them.
This is why I love Zombie Pigmen now, as long as they are still the same from a recent update. On hard they are extremely dangerous. Thus "derping" around in the nether is very unsafe. Which it should be. The player should never feel like they have 85%+ control over the world around them. Zombie Pigmen are there to be a constant threat. One mistake...and crap!
On the over world. It needs to be the same. Zombie P are far worse since they run and have swords. Thus Zombies just need to do more damage. The over world shouldn't be as intense as the Nether...but it should still be a threat to keep in mind.

No, minecraft isn't to challenge you, it's to let you thrive and take over the world, or at least how many people see it.

Agree'd. There's no problem with Zombies doing 5 hearts. It's a melee based mob; you're supposed to get wrecked if get too close to it.
Especially when we have the Enderman; who can dodge attacks, teleport, and still be able to kill you in 2 hits. Something that moves slow and can 2 hit you is no problem.

Full Iron Armour and it took two skeletons about a half minute to kill me. (tested in Alpha 1.2.5).
Seems to take less time in 1.4.7. Nonetheless the mobs weren't balanced around the Hunger system when it was introduced, instead we're getting some tweaks here and there.

What? That is NOT what I remember. lol I actually have checkpoints in my old mines because I was so used to be mowed down by skeletons. It was just a Minecraft thing, death by arrows was just a everyday thing. See a skeleton? Flipping turn around and go the other way.
On a side note. I think All the armors were the same in that version, is that right? It used to just be durability. It could be that since your armor would decrease over time I remember it being hard to keep full armor. Now it is easy to always have a certian amount since it provides the same protection whether it is 1% or 100%. That is another thing to remember. That may be what I am thinking of from the past memories.

Endermen... Now they provide a HUGE threat in the over world. If you just look around at night without being careful...you can find yourself getting your ass handed to you even in full Iron. That's why I love them...and fear them :S

I don't understand why the difficulty doesn't change very drastically.
I'm all for making everything impossible on hard, that's why it's call hard, but normal is normal. It's exactly neutral on the difficulty-o-meter, and when you play on easy, you should expect to have easy mobs, not skeletons that can protect themselves from damage with rapid shooting bows and incredibly small hitboxes.

Dude you are totally awesome. Tier difficulty all the way! As long as me and my buddies can struggle to the extreme in hard, and casual folks can take a slower ride in easy. That's fine. Though don't make normal too easy XD

Normal should be playable in the least. There shouldn't be creepers that destroy stuff that can only be measured in chunks or 6 trees per world.
I do not mind Minecraft being made more diffiult for those who wish it to be more difficult...I don't object to those who want more of a challenge out of the game. However I have to say that I personaly do not look for that extra challenge. So as much as this is a sandbox and I respect the rights of others to play it their way, it'd be nice if those who did feel that way also respected the choices of those who do not feel that way by maintaining a mode in the game that is about the same as what we have now.
For me, MC is not some hack-and-slash survival challenge, it is an adventure and exploration game. Yes if one is too careless there are dangers which could threaten your life, but the thrill of the game isn't surviving the night without getting slaughtered - instead, it's delving into the deep caverns to see what goodies I can find, or climbing to the peak of that mountain on the horizon to see the views and descoveries on the other side. And of course, the thrill of visualising something, like a special home, and building it to my personal specifications - seeing it take shape piece by piece. If the game became far too hard then that adventure and curiosity would be taken over by a constant fear for my life and a fight for survival, and this would no longer be fun for me. And if the game ceased to be fun, I would have no more reason to play.
As I say Minecaft is a sandbox, so by it's very definition all of us should be able to play the way we ourselves choose, defining our own rules and boundaries. So I have absolutely no objection to an extra hard mode being added for those who choose to play with more difficulty. But that mode should not overwrite what we already have and force those changes upon everyone. One of the best features of Minecraft is that everything was optional, and we could pick and choose what we wanted to do and what we wanted to avoid. But recently in a few aspects of the new features that choice seemingly has been taken away, and personaly I think of that as a real shame. Mojang cannot cater for everyone and add in everything that every individual in the community wants, but they could refrain from removing features which are already a part of the game and which some players like, adding in the ability to make the new features optional for the individual player rather than imposing them on all without recourse save for installing mods.
I'm not against change, or updates. Many of the new features added into the game recently I really like, and love to use myself. And as I say I have nothing against people who want more of a challenge from the game, and would be fully in support of a new mode which introduced such features, or a customisable option to tune the gameplay to what the player wants. But I do think the lack of such options is a bit of a shame, and kinda forgets the sandbox root from which Minecraft grew and flourished.
I may not of sounded like it, but I completely agree with you. Hard should be...well. really Hard. Normal should be the game as it was originally, difficult enough to make you just be cautious. Easy should be for those who want the casual feel, but still a bit of punishment for mistakes.
I will say I am for some standards never being changed. As in, the rarity of diamonds. This needs to be unchangeable. Why? So that just about everyone can relate to the "value" of diamonds.
This feeling of value I keep talking about. The best way I can explain it, is playing a old console game vs a computer game.
Console game, you are at the mercy of the game... Say Morrowind. On the pc version though...you can cheat, and basically do whatever. What this means is...if a game never has a PC version then you ALWAYS are at the mercy of the game. Not so much just difficulty or things like that but also... hmmm... Sorry It's late and my brain is slowing down lol.
Basically...having something out of your control, and "generally" being unchangeable for everyone. Everyone can relate to it.
Think of a shooting game, doesn't matter what kind. Let's say there is this one hard to find weapon, some kind of cool pistol. It's ammo is suppper rare, and it has a lot of power and range. Thus...this pistol becomes valuable. If this rarity was unchangable, everyone would have the same general idea that this pistol is "an awesome find!". Stuff like, "Ah man you found the x(name) pistol! Awesome!"
But if this weapon had tons of ammo, and wasn't rare...it just would be another gun. Not a bad gun. But just a gun...and not "That Awesome gun".
That's value.

, Yes, that's probably what caused it- in earlier versions, the armour protection was based on durability, too. In fact if you are wearing heavily damaged armour it can make you take more damage (until something finally breaks).

yeah Enderman are my favourite mob to engage... sometimes I'll go to the end and run around for a few minutes angering Enderman and see if I can take them.

Does it make me seem old if the first thing that popped in my head to represent this was the BFG9000 from the original Doom and Doom II?
as long as the zombies and skeletons aren't doing backflips to dodge out of my shots like the ninjas in half-life, I'm fine with a little extra challenge.
I do want to have to. Minecraft is a sandbox game so I can play as I want, and I don't want it to be way too challenging as I'm terrible at games like that.

I doubt you'll have a bed or at the least a bow and sufficient arrows the first night of a new world. Maybe i'm wrong.
