This seems kind of like a tangential question but I couldn't find any other thread to ask it in:
In the wiki it says wither skeletons spawn on any kind of block within the area of a nether ruin, so what specifies the area of a nether ruin?
Is it the specific x and z of the blocks where the ruin spawned or is it the chunks it's been spawned in? I'm trying to create a flat spawning ground for them so that I don't have to waste lots of time and resources running up and down hallways.
Wither was disappointingly easy to beat. I built a 10x10x3 room, equipped myself with protection 4 diamond armor, used a power 4 bow and a sharpness 3 or 4 diamond sword. As soon as he started expanding, I drink a regen and a strength 2 potion. Beat him in like 45 seconds.
I made a backup before I met him, so maybe I'll try it in the open next time.
I'm not even sure which one was more difficult, the dragon or the wither. The dragon was more annoying because of those stupid towers. I think I got down to 2 hearts against him. But once you get the towers, it's really boring. Because of the wither effect, I don't know how far down in health I was against the wither. I don't think I was even down to 5 hearts.

I've killed the wither in leather armor using a strength II potion, and my fists.... on normal. Personally, I think the flying is only an issue if you plan to summon him in an open area.
Personally, I think if someone's going to trap him in a spot to kill him instead of killing him the normal rough-and-tumble way, you mine as well just drop an anvil on it's ass instead. :/
I killed the Wither with iron armor and an iron sword... Thats it... It's either you suck, or I am good. Also, next time, don't fight a Wither, and don't use the features in the updates. No one is forcing you to use them.
No, he just sucks.
The whither is weak as unless you let it corner you. Seriously, every time I've seen someone fight the whither, the floating skellington (lol) gets its ass kicked pretty fast.
I'm fighting the wither for the first time in survival(I decided to let it loose in the end since it's a bunch of bomb-impervious material I didn't have to lay down myself). The only real threat is the wither effect. I'm lazy as hell so I didn't bother getting health potions or regen potions, I just decided to bring 3 buckets of milk, food, my best sword/bow, the basics.
My first try I got him down almost halfway but my milk buckets ran out by then so I tried to port back and it killed me while I was porting(lol). Ran back, picked up my stuff, idiotically tried taking more shots at it while I had no milk buckets, but then went back to base again to stock up.
Even flying, his attacks are easy to avoid walking away but whenever I take a pop-shot at it about every couple times he gets that wither bomb to hit me and it's back to running around until my hp is back. I would say it's more a battle of health resources than anything, getting sufficient bomb protection isn't very difficult.
Edit: Omg, that was freaking priceless...
After I get it past halfway I was getting all ready to charge it and then realized it's health was already down to a 1/4 and I see a horde of angry enderman kicking it's ass. LOL

It is people like you who annoy me. You're like "Don't use the features" but most of the updates you cannot avoid. Like you could say "Go to peaceful" except some of us like fighting monsters but not things like the wither and endermen. It is something you cannot remove. Get the point?
I like that Mojang added another difficult boss mob. However, I think the idea of being able to create it is dissapointing.
1. Anyone could easily "cheat" kill it in survival mode ie. (create it in a safeguard obsidian room and pelt it with potions from above or piston squish it).
2. It should have just spawned in some new giant room in a stronghold (nether/overworld)
I know I have the choice of building the wither, but overall, bosses should not be able to be built; they should be found.

I think it is kind of silly in terms of multi-player griefing and being able to build a customized 'battle arena' before fighting it, but it can ram through anything except bedrock and the wither bombs destroy all blocks except bedrock, so in a way you 'cant trap it' even though still putting it in many blocks hinders it dramatically.

If they are pathing to an enemy, they ram through everything except bedrock and the wither bombs pretend all blocks have a blast resistance of 4(bedrock is -1 so that's how it's made an exception in that case).
Just a side note, when I fought it in the end, the enderman DID make it a ton easier(all you really have to do is get it down halfway and it's fu.cked), but I did not get the 50 exp. :/
I don't like 1.8. Why? I'll input my response here, its terrible because it made Minecraft into dark, gloomy, and dull game, because of the hues of the grass which were so dark, Agreed. the new lighting system, What's wrong with the lighting system? It's pretty much optional, you can revert smooth lighting. If you don't like the blue hue of night time and the warm light of torches and other light sources, I don't understand why. the new sounds which made it over-realistic with no serenity, I believe C418 said there would be sound packs for those who don't like new sounds. the loss of 'OOGH' with a realistic replacement of bones cracking which is disgusting. Notch wanted the player's gender to remain a mystery, thus they got rid of the "OOGH". The replacement of the skyland project w/ The End, which is horribly gloomy, depressing, dark, and was a horrible replacement for skylands. Agreed, but I think there was a problem with the way skylands generated and they gave up on it. The wreck of the terrain where it no longer has hardly no varience and is easily predictable. Agreed. I could go on and on and on about the updates Minecraft have received, and it would take me probably an entire hour to explain why I dislike the newer updates.

Man up and fight it prepared. Coming onto the forums ing about it won't help you.
