Every Minecraft update sucks! I hate optional things! If I whine and rant, maybe they will remove all their hard work! I am fully possible to downgrade to an update that I like but I decide to just tell everyone my opinion that Minecraft sucks!
hear hear (and purr purr.. yes pet me, every time you seem new to me, I need your attention... span..).
Hay I didn't start out in a cave, but I sure did end up in one. Damm thing blasted me into bitts the first go around. Then I pulled out my diamond armor and went in for round two.
No problems.
However the giant hole in my arena floor needs to be addressed.
We just need an automatic code that blocks the building of Withers in servers, that can be edited so only mods can set one up.
When it comes to combating it, start on a Creative server, and practice on easy mode for awhile, then move up. Players are coming up with great strategies to beating this thing, so experiment.
You can't have really missed that option. Right? If you really did, I'd like to provide you the option of going to the garage, picking up a bat, and smashing your computer in. You can't not do it. It's an option I just presented to you.
Guys ... He is supposed to be endgame. Let's jsut take another game to compare. You don't go killing Deathwing the moment you reach level 85 in wow (ye, im outdated, but only thing I could think of atm) You have to prepare, think through what you are gonna do and know what you do. Randomly hitting him with a sword doesnt work. Perhaps get a good knowback sword to get him away then shoot and run. Use potions and have a longlasting regen and strength on the entire time. Don't let him attack you too much without attacking him becouse he regen hp each time he hit you.
Beacons aren't useful to you? Try mining stone with an Efficiency V diamond pick and a Haste II beacon in range. You might change your mind.
Still useless.
That ability is only useful if you have the TINIEST MINE EVER. In the end, it'll end up taking you LONGER to mine a large area with the damn thing, due to either having to MOVE THE WHOLE FREAKING PYRAMID really, really often, or having to make MORE of the horrid things. The thing's extremely limited range makes all of it's buffs useless. A diamond pick with efficiency 5 just by itself is going to be a WAY better option in the long run (and in the short run too, for that matter). Most players that do strip-mining seem to end up having large, or VERY large mines, not super-dinky ones.

"Endgame" is a REALLY bad excuse for the thing though.
The Wither is difficult, but it's ENTIRELY the wrong kind of difficulty. Look up "Fake Difficulty" on TVTropes; that's EXACTLY what the Wither is. It has no real attack patterns; it's entire method of fighting is to SIT ON YOUR HEAD, and then just spam exploding projectiles.... and that's IT. And as others have pointed out, there's MANY ways of exploiting various game mechanics to kill the thing without any challenge at all.
You could actually kill the thing in the EARLY game very easily if you get to the Nether fast (this usually takes me about 30 minutes, if even that, on a new world; another 10-20 mintues and I'll have located a Nether Fort), and if you get lucky with the stupid skulls to get 3 of them quickly. A proper setup, a simple sword, and you can flatten (exploit) the thing pretty much immediately.
The boss honestly seems like there was just very little effort put into it's design at all, and what it drops isnt even close to worth the effort to even just summon it.
Hard to kill does not mean you pretty much require the best equipment available. That's called a grind, Mojang. Same with the enderdragon, it's just a gear check with no strategy at all.
It's not a "gear check" Boss. a Gear check boss would be impossible without strong enough stats.
First: it's quite possible, and even easy, to kill the enderdragon with nothing but a bow- no other armour at all.
While the wither is certainly not something for which that is possible, It is far more than a gear check. It took me three attempts to kill it; First I was using my best armour and tools; next I was using a backup set that was not enchanted, and finally I had to use a pair of fresh iron (I didn't want to risk going for the dropped stuff from when I died, lest the heads destroy the items). I managed to defeat it with a smite IV sword, a normal bow, and unenchanted Iron armour- All I did was change my strategy to be far more aggressive.
If you don't like the features of minecraft than don't play it.
These the are kind of answers I can't stand.
I have yet to fight a Wither in the wild. (Still looking for those darn skulls) From what I have read, there are ways to go about killing it that are very effective. Use plenty of potions, have good strong armor, and if battling in SMP have a friend help. I hope to soon have my first wither battle, but I am confident with a little research we should be able to take it out first try.
And I love all the new updates Minecraft has to offer. The abundance of weird and cool crap is what makes the game cool in my opinion...Although the witch is a little corny...

Oh sure, I wasn't thinking about mining for the purpose of gathering resources - the specific use would be if, say, you wanted to dig out a large room in your basement from solid stone. In that case, you can build the beacon close enough for it to be in range (and maybe move it a time or two) and get the benefit from it for that particular project. TNT could of course also be used to speed it up, but TNT is messy, and you'll have to do some cleanup once you're done exploding things. That's where Haste II comes in handy. (Or if you don't have enough gunpowder to make as much TNT as you need!)

Yep, it's not a very mechanically interesting fight...still a big step in the right direction from the ender dragon, though!
1. Too easy to use this beast to grief on an SMP server.
2. Nearly impossible to kill (I could barely bruise it with diamond armor and a diamond sword, along with potions)
3. Way too darn fast.
4. As of right now, just pretty much worthless.
I don't like 1.8.
I don't like 1.0.0
I don't like 1.1.
I don't like 1.2.
I don't like 1.3.
1.4.2 IS A DARNED TERRIBLE BEAST IN MY OPINION!
Beware, with posts like that you'll get slammed and flamed by fanboys so hard its like you just killed Jeb.
The problem these days is that the people in these forums are conservatives
You're the conservative here actually. Conserving the current path of Minecraft, its not that we want 1.7.3 back, its that we wished that it took a better path, Minecraft is just so horribly gloomy and dull now.
Every Minecraft update sucks! I hate optional things! If I whine and rant, maybe they will remove all their hard work! I am fully possible to downgrade to an update that I like but I decide to just tell everyone my opinion that Minecraft sucks!
Because most of them do, they have ever since 1.8. You are able to do ANYTHING to Minecraft if you know how to use non-vanilla features, you know. So its pointless in an actual argument. We have a right to complain until we get our way, or are satisfied, believe it or not.
There was another thread just like this that popped up, but if focused on the whole update rather than the Wither. Still, the same posts have been made here. Contacting someone to request a thread lock; it's worthless since "all logical posts have been made" like in the other thread, and this is no longer a constructive discussion.
1. Too easy to use this beast to grief on an SMP server. Put a whitelist on your server if you don't want griefers.Sorta agreed, because its not a vanilla option.
2. Nearly impossible to kill (I could barely bruise it with diamond armor and a diamond sword, along with potions) Opinion. Anyways, it's supposed to be hard to kill. That's, you know, the POINT of a boss. True.
3. Way too darn fast. Opinion. See above. True.
4. As of right now, just pretty much worthless. It provides an actual challenge to this easy game and gives you access to the beacon, which honestly needs some work. I would've preferred something more original.
I don't like 1.8. Why? I'll input my response here, its terrible because it made Minecraft into dark, gloomy, and dull game, because of the hues of the grass which were so dark, the new lighting system, the new sounds which made it over-realistic with no serenity, the loss of 'OOGH' with a realistic replacement of bones cracking which is disgusting. The replacement of the skyland project w/ The End, which is horribly gloomy, depressing, dark, and was a horrible replacement for skylands. The wreck of the terrain where it no longer has hardly no varience and is easily predictable. I could go on and on and on about the updates Minecraft have received, and it would take me probably an entire hour to explain why I dislike the newer updates.
I don't like 1.0.0 Why?

Getting rid of the thing on a server is easy, there are a ton of plugins that can remove mobs, and reverse greifing, but if you prefer you can use a Power 9001 bow with a custom Eotech Sight and fuzzy dice.

I'm really beginning to hate the phrase "Constructive Criticism", its so vague and stops discussions right in the middle of it, we are explaining why we dislike certain features, that should be enough to be considered "Constructive" only time when it isn't constructive to me is when they start calling eachother names and acting like children.

Thought you might reply to my post. You seem to be on top of things and have an opinion on them. My point is this thread is like many of the others out there. You know it's gone when everyone starts saying "just don't use the features", and actually contributing by saying what they don't and don't like, and some hating, some agreeing, but I've seen it all before in the other posts. It's gotten to the same point, really. Not much else to say.
Also, I used "constructive discussion". Basically it means the discussion is not heading in a positive direction, and nothing is getting resolved. People are posting their opinions, but this thread doesn't say: "What do you think about 1.4.2?" People are just agreeing or disagreeing, and the same arguments are being made.

Precisely, and its just those little cues from either side that say "Bah, I've lost the argument, I shall now slam and flame everyone else." This goes for both sides.

Learn to fight. people said here fighting in Minecraft is easy.. Well what's your point now?
Stop whining and just play.

You're probably the 100,000th person to say that. It never helped with any argument, why would it help here?
This is essentially saying "I want people with opinions differential to mine to go away", completely idiotic and ignorant.
