Here is my preset, but I'm actually editing it again due to the fact that the 'cavern' is too close to the mining levels and if you mine for long enough you have a group of 11 some spiders making noises above you trying to follow you:

=D epic. anyways, so far i havent come up with too much more. confirmed my suspicion that a layer of buttons on the top of the surface will indeed crash minecraft =P .. had an idea to put sugar canes as the top 2 levels to make mobs hard to spot and creepers absolutley terrifying, but because im stupid i forgot that they need to be next to water, also crashed the game >.< you could always put 2;7,2x3,2x80,86;1;village and have an ever-ready army of snowgolems to call upon whenever you feel like (may be helpful if you find 'flatcore'ing too difficult)... or 2;7,2x3,2x42,86;1;village for the oh-so-broken ability to call upon an army of iron golems =P 2;7,2x3,06;1;village for a fair amount of lag and more trees than you could possibly care to see in a lifetime. if you have a fetish for skeletons.. particularly their heads.. 2;7,2x3,144;1;village. welp, thats all i got so far.... not exactly great ideas, but ill continue to mess around and see if i can come up with something good for flatcore or survival playing types... dont hold your breath though, im having fun running around in this gigantic field of skeleton heads lol
I made an exact replica of Idaho 2;2x3,8,60,142;village
eh? This I got to check out.
[edit]
lol! Potatoes popping out everywhere. Unfortunately your layer of water won't irrigate crops. Perhaps lakes....wonder if you can change the frequency that lakes spawn.

(Night Vision Potion used because solid black screen shots aren't very interesting.)
The drop down from the ceiling of the underworld to the ground is not quite fatal, but the dark underworld is filled with monsters so be sure you have a plan before you plummet.

Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
Consider the preset code 2;48,250x0,49,78:2;8;stronghold(count=7),biome_1,village(size=0 distance=0),decoration,dungeon,mineshaft
It consists of the following elements:
2 — version number.
48,250x0,49,78:2 — comma-separated list of block IDs.
48 — one layer of Mossy Cobblestone on layer 0.
250x0 — 250 layers of air, from layer 1 to layer 250.
49 — one layer of obsidian, on layer 251.
78:2 — one layer of thicker-than-usual snow, on layer 252.
8 — biome ID, in this case Nether.
stronghold(count=7),biome_1,village(size=0 distance=0),decoration,dungeon,mineshaft — a comma-separated list of structures.
stronghold(count=7) — this will populate the world with seven strongholds. In this preset, these will appear in mid-air.
biome_1 — the biome-specific feature for the Nether is, presumably, the Nether Fortress. TBC.
village(size=0 distance=0) — as there is no such thing as a nether village, this will do nothing.
decoration — Nether-specific decoration.
dungeon — activates dungeons.
mineshaft — activates mineshafts at the default placement frequency. These will appear in mid-air as the preset contains 250 layers of air.
This is how the code goes: still not sure what this is;blocks;biome;additions (with the text between semi-colons being separated by commas)
For blocks it's # x block id and you also have # x block id:meta value
It starts from the bottom of the map up.
lol what ?? can u explain me like 2;48,250x0,what doas ; do and , and that 250x0 easly please
I spent some time and figured this out. It's actually pretty easy.
As you will notice all presets start with 2; (Some kind of starting code for flatworld generation I guess-not sure)
After that everything is purely block ID's and they are arranged by Y=0 and go up. So you'll notice a lot of presets will start with 7 as that is the block ID for bedrock (block ID list on wiki: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Data_values#Block_IDs ) A single layer of a block you just list the ID number, if you want multiple layers of that block type then you put the quantity you want and an 'x' before the ID number.
After the biome code you can put another semicolon and then put in some optional generation arguments. The most common ones are listed on the wiki:
biome_1 - activates biome-specific features, such as desert temples in deserts, jungle temples in jungles and so on
village(size=0 distance=0) - activates village generation with optional arguments to adjust size & frequency
decoration - causes trees, tall grass, flowers, pumpkins, and other features to be generated according to the biome type, assuming the topmost block layer is suitable.
dungeon - self explanatory
mineshaft - self explanatory
lake - water lakes
lava lake - lava lakes
Stronghold - self explanatory

it would be nice to know if you can change the frequency of lakes and other features like that. i know you can for villages, but thats about all i know. i feel that to change the frequency of lakes you might have to.. umm.. do some smart things with the computer..lol (boy, do i know alot about computers =P). as in change some code or something other than using the preset menu in minecraft. even if so it would be a cool thing to find out how to do. perhaps someone with more knowledge of this type of stuff than myself will happen upon this thread...
Can somebody help me? How do i enter in one of the presets above into minecraft???

I'll post pictures once I fix it.
Edit: I chose a swamp because swamp trees don't clutter you but they are also fairly plentiful.
This is a mob chamber like someone else did:
I also made the world layered but at the bottom there is stone:

2;7,25x87,20x0,5x89;lava_lake
Sorry I have a problem with not being able to upload pictures. I don't know when I can figure it out, but when I do I will post a link to a pic.
EDIT: I found an anoying bug. Lava pools spawn on glowstne layer :/
Here is improved preset:
2;7,25x87,15x0;8;lava_lake,Biome_1
Note:Biome1 is only for nether fortresses. It is kinda fun to use:
2;7,25x87,15x0;8;lava_lake,mineshaft (chance=1.0) You see mineshafts like nobodys buisness
