All because of that damn fire spread on hard mode... By this point, it's impossible to stop it. Even if I changed the difficulty, the fire spread so much to the point where it doesn't matter. Nothing I could have done to stop it, I was underground when the lightning struck. I believe the chunk unloaded after that, which would explain why the rain didn't put the fire out.
Damn it. Guess I have to start getting a crap ton of saplings. This reminds me of the old days, at least.
I made this world last night, so I'm not really pissed. But still, holy crap.
Here a comparison. I used a seed to get the before pic.
Before
After:
EDIT:
Looks like surface lava lakes are more dangerous than ever before if you're on hard mode. Here another world that got a similar outcome, but it came from the lava in the middle of the pic...
So yeah, if you live in a forest, and you like it, it's smart to check for lava lakes when you're on hard.
I lit a fire on ONE leaf block to see what would happen and it spread like, well, wildfire. I used MCEdit to remove all fire blocks before it spread further. I could have done that sooner but I wanted to see how far it would spread. It was lagging my PC so I had to stop it the only way I knew how.
MCEdit still works even though it's for 1.2.5. You can even move new block swith it, it just doesn't know what they are.
Yeah I was playing in a new world I liked... I was down in a cave and suddenly my FPS dropped. I found an exit and my entire forest was going up around me.
Forest + Large Biomes = Aw crap.
Your best bet is to just... leave the chunks and wait for a rainy day and go back. Might work. I mean the fire can't spread if the chunks arn't loaded. When it rains... it will put some out and you can work on damage control. or something.
Either way. At least you can replant and regrow the forest...
Also. Thank you for reminding me that I really need to go lava hunting... I will be damned if my new home is burned down!
I'm currently resisting the urge to scream FIRE! in all caps.
Crap...
Sucks though. Why didn't I have this feacher when I actually needed to burn a swamp down. Would have worked so well.
How big was it? and do you have enough sapplings? On the bright side least your house was not down in it.
It was a pretty normal size. There were some left over big trees I was able to get the saplings off of. I'll probably start chopping down other forests.
Oh, and here's the aftermath. Not entirely controlled, but it's getting there. I made this world last night, so It's not that valuable to me.
That kind of sucks, but it's also kind of awesome (sorry).
I love going around and planting forests anyway, so I would see this as one big opportunity. Just think of it this way: Minecraft has given you something to do!
Wow, what a mess. I hope you weren't planning a nice cottage amongst the trees. But i guess you have a load of flatland at your disposal now, you could build something epic on that.
This is actually one of my most favorite new features simply because forests are typically plain, boring, and can get in the way. This makes it a super sweet post-apocalyptic minecraft experience.
That's unfortunate, but to be honest I would kinda like for something exciting to happen in my saved world. I wouldn't mind the rare forest fire.
I would like things like this to happen, just small chances of a forest fire, heavy storm damageing my house, and possibly having a tornado wiping my farm out.
After I get diamond tools, kill the enderdragon, then build a nice house, there is no challenge.
But hey, my Idea is for the suggestions thread, so...
Anyway, that sucks for you, but now you can build a town!

The only reason that I respond more than once to your topic is that I left it in a tab when I left my computer.

2) Oh crap, a creeper.
Oh, c'mon. The guy wasn't being sarcastic and aggressive about it like many posters are.
Wouldn't rain wash out the fire...?NvmThat sucks man.
DOOO ITTT!

Get to it man!
What setting does that? hard?
Praise be to Spode.
