Define we. As far as I know, I think no one wants the old cobble texture back, and even if they did they'd use a texture pack. You should consider that option too.
no.... at least for me, no. I saw both of them, the new one looks better. case closed.
I'd just like to point out that if it had been the other way around, the smooth one first and then the cartoon one replacing it, there would have been posts complaining about that as well. mojang can't win.
What did the old cobblestone look like and what does the new one look like? I never noticed a change.
Somewhere in beta, they swapped it out. There used to be solid black lines between the bits of rock in the texture. It made for a very busy-looking texture, which was quite aggressive when patterned. Castle walls (since it was before stone bricks existed) looked like criss-crosses of black lines. It was nasty.
So, no. I don't agree. No old cobblestone.

Make note: I generally avoid being insulting. If I sound insulting, I'm probably joking.
That's kind of funny because since I felt all the default textures were sun-faded I changed or darkened most of the textures. The difference between my cobble and that alpha cobble is that the whole block is darker tho, not just the lines.

Yea if they did the smooth first and replaced it with the old junk they'd get complaints.

I agree. Anyone who wants that contrasting junk is insane
Everything that is new is always better, even if it completely wrecks the game and makes it look like ****.
We will even switch each sound of every animal to a meowing cat, even though it sucks, its new, thats why its better than the older version okay?
The problem with the sounds analogy is that one can actually change the texture of the game or make a more permanent texture pack and not have the problem. Whether or not something is better looking is almost entirely subjective too. It's a case of majority rules in that kind of situation.
Anyways, this change has been FAR from recent, what has happened recently to bring about this thread.. Oh, and as KyoShinda said, the change was so small that I didn't even notice it when it first occurred.
I like the new cobblestone better!

2. Texture pack.

Right with you there!

After seeing this comparison, I hate the old cobble texture more.
I play with default too, partly because I use snapshots more than mods. If the old cobble came back, Mojang better watch out.
Yes, I hated having to see it whenever I played MCX360/Minecraft on the Xbox. It contrasted way too much. New texture is much much better.
crapcobblestone.I am ninja'd far too often.
