Basically I made explosion damage scale the same way that all other mob-based damage does. This mainly affects creepers, but it could potentially also change ghasts and *maybe* tnt.
The amount of damage they do to your property does not change. Only how much they do to you.
Or you can play in Normal difficulty. That is the same amount of damage as before. They actually used to scale this way in the past, it was a bug that they stopped scaling and the damage was reduced.
Will this effect the blast radius also? My impression is that the way the TNT type explosion model works is that the bigger the damage rating the larger the blast radius gets.
Dinnerbone mentioned that it was actually a bug that their damage wasn't scaled to the difficulty level, because other hostile mobs have done so previously. I'm glad to see the change implemented though, Creepers just weren't scary once you had a full set of diamond armor.

god i hate this someone better make a mod to turn this back to normal
Frankly I enjoy it, but I'm sure your wish will be granted within a short period of time. Not everyone will be happy about this.
Very true, it's impossible to please everyone. But they should know that this is long overdue, since it was a bug that it wasn't that way previously. Besides, the simple solution is to just not play on Hard mode. Even Dinnerbone has said so.

In fact I doubt very few of those who dislike this actually play hard.
I don't think ghasts need a buff, though perhaps increase their firing rate? As it is my most common cause of Nether death is a ghast blowing apart the cliff I'm standing on. :/

The Internet is a big place, friend. I've been places you've n͍̺e̩v̦e̦̰͍͓̩ͅr̜̭̝̬̬͉̤̬ ͙ịm̖͇a͍͇̤͙̥g̤̘i͔͖̤̼̪̬n͖͔̳̬̯e̩̘ḓ͈͔̠̙͇̼̯.͎
What is there to discuss? They do more damage. I don't see how they're any scarier. They're still so blind that they can't see you from 18 blocks away, they can't open doors or jump through windows, and they won't blow up a wall unless you're standing right there next to it. You can still survive them by building a big dirt box and hiding in it for all of eternity. So scary.
If I had full Diamond Armor with Blast Protection IV on every piece, how much damage would a point-blank Charged Creeper explosion do on Hard with these new damage values? This is very important survival information.
I think it's pretty overkill, but it restores Creepers back to their original glory.
Dinnerbone response from post #10:
Read jebs tweets. damage is like this
50% (LESS) than normal= easy
regular damage as usual (WAS NOT CHANGED AT ALL)= normal
33% (MORE) damage than usual=hard
easy gives less damage than usual by 50%. hard gives 33% more damage than usual and normal creeper is exactly as it has always been as usual.
I've read dinnerbone's convo, he accidentally left (more) after the percentages. And after people were so confused JEB clarified it on twitter for everyone

makes a lot of sense really... btw great work mojang team, 1.3 is the definitive minecraft update. <3

They now deal more damage on hard. According to Dinnerbone, on hard mode they'll be able to knock you down to 2 hearts even if you have diamond armor on.
Note: The damage values on the front forum page are very wrong. These are the correct ones.
Easy mode= 50% damage
Normal mode= 100% damage
Hard= 133% damage

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..
He was tweeting something about it possibly effecting ghast fireballs too, but he didn't sound too sure.
...but that's just like, my opinion, man.

I couldn't agree more.

@GTkills@jeb_ creepers only do half hearth damage!11hJens Bergensten
@jeb_@GTkills What difficulty setting are you playing at?GTkills
@GTkills@jeb_ easy11hJens Bergensten
@jeb_@GTkills The creeper damage is now decreased in easy, and increased in hardmakes a lot of sense really... btw great work mojang team, 1.3 is the definitive minecraft update. <3
So who's right? Dinnerbone or Jeb? Both Jeb and Dinnerbone gave different numbers, and Dinnerbone was the one who changed it I believe.
Huh? What part don't you understand?
Easy = 50% less damage than Normal
Hard = 33% more damage than Normal
Seems pretty clear.
