I was really excited over the past day when I heard about tripwires, they look really cool so far. But I was letting it sink in, what is the point of them? They do the exact same thing as pressure plates. The only difference is they are slightly harder to see. But they do the same basic thing, you step on them, it triggers a redstone pulse. So how will they be useful again?
I guess Tripwires will be harder for others to see, and they'll probably be easier to hook up to contraptions. Unfortunately, judging by the video, they appear to be a one-time use.

The funny thing is, by the time you finish reading this, you will have wasted about four seconds of your life...
Harder for people to see it will basically be a easier way for it because for pressure plates to hide the redstone you have to put it under but for trip wires you can hide redstione in a wall and plus there harder to see and there easier to make then having to make liek a bajilion of pressure plates sometimes

Rewatch the video, they do not appear to be one time use.
Also, trip wires might be able to be placed in the air which would allow for puzzle maps to require a person to acquire shears to continue.

The only way I could see this being useful is in caves. Nobody will notice 2 holes on the side of a wall their. Anywhere else, yeah it will stand out easily.

Or a snow biome. But the wire is small enough to be easily missed on most textures unless you thoroughly inspect the block.
Pressure plates only come in two material variations. If you want to set up a trap on something that isn't stone or wood, tripwire would be the way to go.
They're not only useful for traps. When I saw they were multi-use, I thought they would be a cool variation to open doors. Sometimes a line of pressure plates for a door just looks like ****, like when the floor isn't stone or wood. Just because they don't have a new unique use, doesn't mean they shouldn't be added. Wait until they come out and see all of the things people will make with them.
depends on how creative you are I guess, i already had ideas for traps with them. Something like having it trigger a piston system that'll close invaders in then make them into swiss cheese with arrow dispensers. Doesnt neccesarily have to be rigged to tnt I would imagine.
Did you guys see the tripwire hooks? Those stand out more then pressure plates...
I played a game that had land mines. These land mines aren't invisible and they don't have camoflage that makes them blend in with the environment. You'd be surprised at how often people run into visible traps.

Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.
A good trap with tripwires would not show the hooks. They would be hidden behind a wall.
You got a definite point there. For trap purposes you'll still have problems hiding it, even in walls, because you would notice the holes no problem.
But what if you were wiring the entrance of a house, where you would only see one side of the house before you enter it? Or a cavern wall?
You would need to go on the other side to actually see the hooks. You would most likely set off the wire before that if you aren't paying attention.
