Emerald Ore - "Rarity"
Once you know where to look it isn't that difficult to find and emeralds are not super rare at all.
Personally I never saw the problem with emerald ore.
- It spawned rarely to encourage villager trading
- It was a currency, so it only makes sense that you can't just mine all the money you need
- It also has it's own decorative block!
It was not nearly as rare as people were making it out to be.
- It could be obtained from 3 sources (trading, pyramid loot, mining)
- It only appeared in mountain biomes (Hint* mine here!)
Jeb's Tweets/Reddit explaining why he removed emerald ore.
"Many complain that emerald ore is too rare. It's intended to be a "nice find," not the main way to gain currency. Will remove it again." - Jens Bergensten
"I'm sorry, but it's really annoying to get the same complaint over and over again. This way it's less confusion; emeralds are only currency" - Jens Bergensten
"Hehe there's actually logic to it =)
The reason I added emeralds in the first place was because I wanted to add a currency that I can "control." In other words, something that's exclusive to trading.
Then I decided that the emeralds could be found in really small amounts in the "extreme hills" biome, just as a nice surprise for people who mined there. The amount was really small, and it was really hard to find since it's were spread over a larger y-span. In other words, not worth the effort to search for, but a nice surpise if you happend to find it.
This lead to the situation where I received a lot of complaints that it took too much effort to find emeralds. I could of course ignore those complaints, but it's very annoying to see it popping up everywhere. I could have "fixed" that by making it easier to find, but then I would've ruined the basic idea to keep emeralds linked with trading.
So, now I decided to remove the ore from the world generator. This will hopefully lead to less confusion, and fewer complaints in the long run." - Jens Bergensten
Complaining
Complaining is a major problem here. I have noticed that many people in this community feel that MC should be made in their vision and anything that doesn't fit with their views are opposed aggressively. There is a huge difference between helping the developers, by pointing out bugs, or suggesting slight changes that might help the game work better and just complaining. This zealous opposition to change needs to stop. The developers don't need to implement your suggestions.
Jeb has given us a great new snapshot - a new ore, a new decorative block, a currency, villager trading, biome themed villages, pyramids, traps, a huge improvement to the gravel texture. How many posts have I read on here asking for villager trading, more desert content, jungle villages, more decorative blocks and ores? Countless.
So why all the complaining guys?!? Jeb gave the community exactly what they were asking for! And instead of thanking him for listening to the community and adding all of this great new content, everyone crapped all over him for it. Read Jeb's tweets complaining IS a big problem.
Perhaps instead of more complaining to Jeb to change it back there should be an appology first because he really did a great job adding things that the community has been asking for. And please guys stop complaining. Like I said in my last post:
Also, since it's a currency item, it doesn't matter if you can't obtain it without structure since there's nobody to trade with.
The only problem is that you can not obtain it if you want to use it as a building material when you play without structure in survival... which is kind of a contrived (but not impossible) situation.
A lot of the community has been complaining for many months and getting new ores/gems. NOW that we FINALLY get them, all these WHINERS start COMPLAINING about it! Poeple seriously need to stop whining and complaining and just play the game that was meant to be played. If you want nothing to do with new stuff, then don't do it. I know that bit's been said for a long time, but still.
I was looking forward to emerald ore. I expected it to be very rare, and I like it that way, it makes sense that it'd be rare. I like the idea of being able to get emeralds by finding ore, it's more realistic, rather than only being able to get them from trading. And I really think the ability to get emerald ore is good for multiplayer, as you could use it as currency (since it's meant to be currency), but have villagers off (and then just mine for it).
Basically I like the idea of emerald ore, and I really wish it was still being put into the game.
he is lying, look at the votes of this topic http://www.minecraft...-game-petition/
only 7 stupid trolls dont like the emeralds in survival mode, so, he listen to trolls and minority? or what? BS!
I'm sorry but these polls that keeps to pop up on this forum each time there's a change in MC have no value whatsoever.
150 persons voted. Woohoo!
I'm not saying I wouldn't support the return of the ore though.

Jeb listend to the community and thought everyone would appreciate a new ore, currency, and decorative block, but then people aggressively complained about it. Then Jeb thought it was a mistake to have implemented it and being considerate of the community's opinion he removed it.
Pity, I liked the idea of a very rare ore. I hope this decision will be reversed. I'm not complaining though! Oh, wait - is the only way to get what you want to complain? I'm confused.

^ This is a suggestion.
"Change it back!" "I want it back" "Emeralds suck without the ores"
"They're too rare!" "They ruin the value of diamonds" "Trading is screwed up" ^ This is complaining.
He removed it because THIS is what he thought the community wanted when they all raged about emerald ore. Jeb is actually being considerate.
Actually he removed it because people thought that the main way to get emeralds was by mining and not by trading.
Since the ore is rare, people complained that it will make trading not worth it at all which is not the case.

I'm confused because I though it was very clear from Jeb's tweets that emerald ore was removed because of complaining...

It's more that the people complaining were missing the point of emerald.
Emerald have never been rare and removing the ore won't change that. What's more, removing the ore will probably encourage people to trade with villager to obtain it, which was the whole point.
A good part of the complaining seem to had come from those asking for a new set of tool intermediate between iron and diamond, which would be pointless. They saw the addition of emerald ore as a first step toward this (however Jeb has already said that he won't add new tools without a reason). However, emerald was intended as a currency only.
I mean, if the material for this set was easy to find, people would simply use it at all time and would stop using iron tools. Iron would become the new wood/stone.
If the material was rare, people would simply never use it and would stack it for special occasion. Also, if it was better than diamond, people would stop using diamond. If it was between diamond and iron, people would not use it.
Aslo, emerald is obtainable is pyramid and according to jeb twitter MAY POSSIPLY (don't start flamewar if it turn out to not happen) be obtainable in dungeon chests, which is the kind of bonus the emerald ore was supposed to be at the start.

I don't really care what the complainer's faulty logic is, but what you just said was exactly the same thing I saw happening and my opinion is very similar to yours on it all.
On Twitter, I'm trying to get Jeb to not take it away, as well as asking him why he doesn't want Emerald tools with the huge gap that exists between Iron and Diamond already.
Apparently, the ore would still be available in Creative mode, though.
Not necessarily. It could have other things over Diamond, such as its availability, enchantability, speed...
Also, I had a small discussion with BebopVox on Twitter and we both found out that Emerald is actually a harder material than Iron
Coal blocks, for the compression of all that coal that exists in the world (seriously, I've got almost a double chest full of the stuff) and for other long term smelting, like lava, only 72 uses per single unit instead of 1000.
This is the sort of stuff I saw everywhere! Why is it that these people have all the twitter accounts?

I don't know who to be more upset at:
Those that whined about something so trivial.
Or the lead developer who's acting like a "stern daddy" taking toys away from the naughty children.
In this case, I'll have to say Jeb probably crossed the line.
This isn't what Jeb is doing.
He removed it because THIS is what he thought the community wanted when they all raged about emerald ore. Jeb is actually being considerate.

The ore was just a bonus way to get emeralds.
Still a BS reason.

Also you can read more about this in his reddit post: http://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/u8qrb/jeb_removing_emerald_ore_again/c4t9nct
But, this is my point. Their mindless, ignorant complaining was the reason why Jeb removed it. He clearly said so.

It seems his idea is to make multiple "Nice find ores" before re-adding emerald to the game.
This may mean if we just bide our time, we'll not only get it but some other cool things as well
This.
