Honestly, if it required an enderpearl to use it every time I wouldn't even use it at all. Do we have to use up a coal every time we want to pre-heat the oven?
Considering that it looks to be a somewhat late-game item (diamond pick needed to get the obsidian for it, decent combat gear/water buckets and time to get a pearl), I think having it be reusable is fine. By the point where you have diamond tools and ender pearls to spare, you'll likely have more valuable/useful materials than you can carry in one inventory load. Leaving those behind would suck, so instead you'd have some hammerspace for them to sit in while you travel. Seems just fine to me.
3. The above problem could be fixed by requiring an ender pearl to put items in. Ender pearls are not expensive once you defeat the dragon, but it takes a lot of effort to get to that point. Plus, ender pearls can only stack up to 16.
Do you remember when beds came out and everybody started whinging about how it seriously unbalances the game, since you could set your spawn in a cave and speedrun to get your items? How about when wolves came out and everyone proclaimed it was the end of Minecraft since mobs became much easier to kill? What about potions, which not only "ruined the feel" of Minecraft but would allow you to never worry about mobs ever again? And enchantments, which let you speedrun the game?
If you'll notice, no one is complaining about those things any more. Wolves didn't get nerfed, and beds didn't get nerfed. I want to say that potions didn't get nerfed either, but I recall something about the system being changed. However, I'm still going to assume that potions didn't get nerfed. If anything, enchantments might even wind up receiving a buff with the highest enchantments going from level 50 to level 30, although that may not happen at all.
I say is all that does is give it some pointless disadvantage to an otherwise great feature because no one is happy with the thought of the player having a clear advantage.

You still need to use up fuel every time you use the oven, though.
But at the same time you lose all of your equipment and, most likely, the chest itself. Not if you leave the chest behind, and leave your equipment in the chest.
Do you remember when beds came out and everybody started whinging about how it seriously unbalances the game, since you could set your spawn in a cave and speedrun to get your items? Disadvantage: You can't use them when monsters are nearby. How about when wolves came out and everyone proclaimed it was the end of Minecraft since mobs became much easier to kill? Disadvantage: They only spawn in certain biomes.Plus, ever since passive mob spawning changed, it's even less common to see them. What about potions, which not only "ruined the feel" of Minecraft but would allow you to never worry about mobs ever again? Disadvantage: You need to collect the ingredients every time you make a potion. Good luck harvesting ghast tears. And enchantments, which let you speedrun the game? Disadvantage: Every time you want a good enchantment, you need to grind for a long time. And even then, you might not get a good enchantment.

I want to say that potions didn't get nerfed either, but I recall something about the system being changed. However, I'm still going to assume that potions didn't get nerfed. Although they didn't get nerfed after release, they still have disadvantages.
I say is all that does is give it some pointless disadvantage to an otherwise great feature because no one is happy with the thought of the player having a clear advantage.
What I said earlier was just repeating information from earlier in this post, but I just realized something; requiring an ender pearl would make it even harder for transportation. So the problem still isn't solved. I'm coming back to agreeing with you that it should be left as it is.
Look, my point was that none of these things got nerfed, even though they "ruined" the game and made it much easier, so some claim, and maybe they did. But those are pretty weak disadvantages all the same.
Can you guys never just post outside the quote box so it can make this easier on me?
That's assuming you know you're about to die. Most deaths are generally surprising, like falling into lava.
Look, my point was that none of these things got nerfed, even though they "ruined" the game and made it much easier, so some claim, and maybe they did. But those are pretty weak disadvantages all the same.
No, it's just in case you die. To minimize losses in a possible accident.
Whether or not those disadvantages are weak are starting to get to opinion.
However, now that I think of it, ender chests have enough disadvantages and should not be nerfed, as I said earlier.
I think the Enderchest is a great idea! While I have not gotten it in survival yet, it makes it easier to store my enchanted weapons when I go from survival to creative and back again.
OP raised a valid point about how saying "if you don't like it, don't use it" is not a viable argument against someone complaining about overpowered items/elements.
I once again point you to Creative Mode and cheats. They give you infinite health, resources, and flight. If you don't like it, don't use it.
Instead putting an enderpearl every time you put an item in, why not make an enderpearl every time you place it down?
This would unincentive the (pick up diamond, put down chest, pick up chest) action, while would encourage placing down the chest in a strategic point in your mine/cave, but you still would have to pick up items and bring it there from the nearby locations.
I don't get what you're saying. It takes an Ender pearl to put it down? I'm going to assume that's what you're saying. Look, the chest doesn't cure cancer. It just safeguards your items, and even that functionality is worthless if you're careful. I rarely die when I'm exploring caves, considering my current tools and armor, which you pretty much need to even get the chest.
My point is that by the time you get the chest, the safeguard feature isn't necessary because you'll have such trouble dying that it's only real use is an expanded inventory.
If you haven't read the past couple pages, let me bring you up to speed; he debated me and couldn't think of anything, so he's decided to take to insulting me instead.
If you pick it up, it's basically a backpack.
All ender chests you make connect to each other.
If you think about equivalents, the chest costs 18 obsidian ( 10 for a nether portal, and 8 for the chest ), 3 diamond and two sticks ( to make a diamond pick so you can get obsidian ), ender pearls and blaze powder ( for an eye of ender ),
There are people playing without cheats and without creative mode, in fact, they want to have the challenge. All he wants is to slow down the development of minecraft. Because he fears changes.
I don't know, man. Placing focus on one unimportant aspect of the game doesn't strike me as speeding up development.
And while you say that I fear change, I don't exactly see you embracing it. All you keep saying is that it breaks the status quo by unbalancing the game. I say that it changes how I play Minecraft.
He's talking about how hard it is to gain the materials, but on the other hand he brings the cheat arguement...
You see, one argument does not necessitate the other. My point on the difficulty of the materials is a response to your argument that the game is becoming easier. My cheating argument is a response to you constantly insisting that the game needs to be balanced while forgetting that there are cheats in place.
he wants us to play with cheats, so he don't feel bad all the way when he is using them, because the game is suddenly so hard or what? Is this his point?
I literally never said anything about playing with cheats on or asking anyone to do the same.
I stopped taking him serios at the point he came with his cheat arguement... I don't need opinions about balancing from somebody using cheats... Such people don't know what "balance" is. Such people thinking a good balance is, when they are overpowered all the time.
Again, I never said that I played with cheats on, and that's far from the point. I've been playing Minecraft for a little while too, you know.
1. This will not affect you in single player. If you care what other people are doing in single player that is rediculous.
2. In SMP this chest will be too dangerous to use, as there is only one inventory per world (that includes across dimensions). People could easily take your stuff.
So literally; if you do not like it don't use it. How does this ruin the game? You don't have to use it. If it's a matter of people are gonna use it in single player then that's simply rediculous. People mod Minecraft anyways, mods exsist that can do this sorta thing. If you REALLY hate it, just mod it out of the game.
Your argument (from what I've read) is it makes it too easy to travel to a new location. First of all, most people don't travel that far from their home location once it's finished. Second of all, if anything it's just an inventory expansion. Theirdly, this would be more used in adventure maps, as you'd have a checkpoint where you sleep and put your valubles in this chest. As for SMP, this would be almost completely useless as players would have the ability to remove your things from the chest.
As for traveling in caves; why does it really matter? You could just as easily lay out rails and put minecarts with chests, fill them up, and then send them back home. Most people are only mining when exploreing the underground.
So to me, the ender chest is not good enough for transportation (even though it could serve that fuction somewhat well), but too good for backpacking. But if you think about it, these two functions are on the opposite sides of the balance. Therefore, the ender chest is balanced.
Or at least, that's one way of thinking about it.
I once again point you to Creative Mode and cheats. They give you infinite health, resources, and flight. If you don't like it, don't use it.
Try again.
You do realize that the idea of creative is to remove all the challenge if you are playing in that mode. This enables you to test new features (as well as some old ones) (e.g. redstone, water and lava, and new terrain generation, and other new stuff) without worrying about getting the items/blocks or getting killed, and I use it to test things, and then I build the things in survival.
To the point: Creative was not made to remove difficulty, but it also doesn't remove any of the difficulty from the survival experience, and that is what we are talking about; survival, we never say something is overpowered in creative mode, because we all assume that when we say it is OP we mean that it is OP in survival, and therefor creative can't be OP (in survival) because it isn't in survival

I don't even know how to reply to such a statement. Honestly.
I'm completely shocked today.
I DO like the ability to have some kind of "safe" storage on servers. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate it 100%. It just needs to be like the enchantment table. You can't pick it back up.
You couldn't be more wrong. You can pick up an enchantment table with a WOODEN PICKAXE.

Not to mention the main focus of that argument was on the "Don't like it don't use it" point. He said it wasn't valid, and I corrected him on that.
Um... Right, I actually was saying that to tell you that your idea of "Creative mode is overpowered, if the ender chest is removed it should be removed also" is not actually valid, as creative isn't overpowered.
