I think the big thing is a disconnect as to what updates mean. Updates aren't paying off some sort of debt that they owe the players. They are ADDING CONTENT. That content will just about always render the game better than it was before the update.
Scenarios when it potentially does not render the game better:
1. When they change pre-existing content.
2. When the new content cannot be ignored and damage mechanics of the game.
3. When new content causes an increase in lag all over the board.
Scenarios when you should shut the **** up:
1. When brand new content that you weren't even aware of until it was released and weren't based on any promises do not meet the maximum potential you can possibly imagine.
2. When brand new content does not perfectly emulate or improve on a preexisting mod.
3. When brand new content is just "beating around the bush" and they should be spending that time adding something else that you deem more relevant.
I dont know, looks like one rushed of an update to me
Its... a snapshot, this is the progress they have made since last snapshot, its 1 weeks progress adding these things.
Every week they zip together what kinda works and ships it as a snapshot for us to have fun with if we want and for modders to get hints about what they need to prep for
Ive been on the forums for about year now, and i still have no ****ing idea why when someone has a fair opinion, people just have to tear him apart. I mean, most of the people that tear the opinion apart dont even say why, they just say things like "I think OP is retarded" or "Can I slap this guy?". You guys need to calm down. He had some valid points. Emerald is to rare, its texture isnt that great, and the trade system for it is broken too. I highly agree with him with the golden nuggets. Thats actually what I thought they were planning to do when they introduced them. I agree with the gravel too. It looks ok, but not at all what should be in with the regular minecraft texture pack.
I hate how people are getting excited for these new snapshots and the "new block", but then the first day it comes out people are already complaining on almost everything.
Funny because I'm not talking at all about getting MOAR, I'm talking about getting less, but better. I've said it twice already, for me, quality is better than quantity. You should pay more attention at what people are writing before trying to make a clever analogy.
Oh, and FYI Iceman404, any post can't be anything else than the "IMO" of its writer. Sometimes people writes it because readers could get confuse with absolute truth. But trust me, it mostly isn't. Mostly.
I just copied a previous post, I know that it's a snapshot. Still, in a week (or two since last week we didn't got any, if I recall correctly), if it's too short to get too many features right... maybe you should get less features right. Or no features and enhance the SSP/SMP merging.
Oh, and don't confuse me with the OP, I've just bounce on his post cause I agreed with it, but keep some hate for me
Yes, but you are still complaining. Snapshots are not meant to be played like a normal update, they are made for people to test and see whats coming up so they can update their mods. They will add in as many features as they want, in any condition they want whether that partly broken or ready to ship in the next major update. So please, stop these "I hate these new features" threads. Just because you think they added to much does not warrant a complaint. Don't play the freaking snapshot then and just wait for 1.3. I do agree that I wish Jeb would polish off some things in the game before moving on to other new features, but you just have to deal with it and making these kinds of threads only ruins the community. This forum used to love minecraft, and now it seems every time a snapshot comes out, the community just tears it to pieces. Just enjoy minecraft and realize that you're lucky that the developers still add new features to it EVERY WEEK. What other game does that after 3 years? [/rant]I also don't like the gravel texture Just my opinion. And please, I dont want to get in a fight with anyone.EDIT: Ahh sorry jeP didnt realize you werent OP. This was more aimed at him,
We too have valid points. The snapshot is amazing, one of the best in a while. We are barely tearing him apart.
Emerald can be obtained in other ways. It's texture wasn't changed before update. How is trade broken? Not golden nuggets for trading, please...
These are hardly good points. Trade is broken because it has bad trades, like as he said 2 emeralds for some shear. Shears only require 2 iron, and so thats saying emeralds are about 3 times harder to fnd then iron, which is very untrue. And so the only other way to obtain emeralds is by trading, which is too easy. I dont know what you mean by "its texture wasnt changed before update". And y no gold nuggets for trading? whats wrong with that?
Jeez. The emerald blocks are impossible to find, and as you all know, the villagers sells you items for emeralds.
BUT why the heck would you want to buy for example Shears for 3 god damn emeralds?
Personally, I'd prefer to have a useful shears than 3 emeralds laying around and doing nothing.
yep,I know this community you have to have at least one person making a thread bitching about bugs that will be fixed when it is properly updated, serously i see this every single update, heres an idea DONT WHINE ABOUT BUGS/OPTIONAL FEATURES in the game because its not what your image of minecraft is.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
i got white first but i redid it by awnsering properly
The biggest problem I have with this new snapshot is that it seems to have re-introduced lag spikes to my almost-new i7 desktop. Really, it's frustrating to have such variation in performance from one version to the next. For me, last snapshot was pretty good, the one before terrible for performance. Also the glitchy villages are a bummer, as I want to trade with them but can't walk up to them!
Otherwise though, in terms of content it's pretty much ALL GOOD. I'd be happy if they drew the line here on features and did one more bug fix update next week, then a full release the week after.
i mean, my biggest problem is that whenever i load my map i fall straight down through the ground, so fast that i actually don't die and just continue falling forever. It wont even let me use player commands to kill myself. THAT is a legitimate complaint.
I have tons of issues with the latest merge of SSP and SMP, but not with what you mentioned.
Trading has just been implemented on the latest snapshot (unlike the merge), so it will be unbalanced etc
Gravel, I have to say is one of my favorite re-textures that mojang has done. Before it used to be an almost useless blob of pixels,
not it is actually somewhat pleasing to look at.
I guess you can say already promised features (having villagers interact with you at SOME positive way) would be a nice thing, yeah.
Granted, it's also simply a snapshot.
But, it doesn't feel like it helps. On top of that, the ideas aren't that original, either. The concept of a chest that can be accessed from anywhere has also been done in chest mods, and there was a Backpack mod that added 'Diamond Backpacks' that worked nigh-exactly the same as Ender Chests. Villager trading has been sought for and been added in by the community already. Randomly generating structures are also nothing new and exciting, and the traps are only surprising the first time. After that, it's an annoyance or free bit of TNT. The new ore, emerald, is a done to death feature with modders and doesn't add anything that conducive to a better experience. It makes the villagers seem like a middleman, where instead of getting a random chest with items that could have the same rarity as the emerald ore, you need to go find or talk to some villagers with random prices for random, not that rare materials. Emeralds and trading seem to not have too much appeal, in that sense, and if you're going to buy anything sensible from them like Iron Leggings, you'd most likely already have enough iron to make some yourself, since according to the wiki, Emerald Ore is an "estimated 25 times rarer than diamond." You would be digging at another conjecture of layer 1-30, or, around diamond layer as is, that is 0-20.
The new additions also try to flesh out the game mechanics a bit more. Trading with villagers, as I mentioned before, is now the only positive interaction possible to have with them. That's a step in the right direction, since Minecraft already goes in way too many directions as is. The randomly generated pyramids also serve to make mining unrewarding, since you can find what is easily the most valuable mineral in them. Furthermore, the Ender Chests are rendered unusable in SMP unless changes are made to them or you dearly trust someone.
Personally, I would have preferred some updates to the already boring combat system, as it is extremely repetitive and easy. There could maybe be attack animations, so you could actually use the sword's block, or maybe even a new enemy or new weapon varieties. Something like a new, welcome texture change would be good, as setting a style for the game would give it tons more atmosphere than Notch's not-that-good arguably ugly graphics.
People are resisting the change of gravel because people are resistant to change. There was some words going around when Cobblestone was changed, but it was for the better, as the new one blended in with the lighting system.
TL;DR the new features are basically mods (meaning the company that made the game cannot move it forward on their own) and different changes would have been more useful than a rough trading system with already mindless villagers also these complaints aren't too valid considering that it IS a snapshot- although, a snapshot of what it could be
Wow, as soon as someone posts one little negative opinion, all the same overused arguments come rushing back.
"its a snapshot"
I rather judge snapshots then the final thing end up a pile of **** (see 1.0.0). Snapshots are testing and dont need to be perfect, but that doesn't mean it should no criticism at all.
"snapshot was amazing!"
Are you out of your mind? The trading feature was severely oversighted, as emeralds are stupidly rare, and most of the time the trade is better off you making it yourself. Ender chests are completely useless in SMP. Pyramids had little flaw, but it is something that has been pulled off ages ago. The emerald ore looks like what I can make of a stone block in 2 minutes of a stone block. At least recycle the diamond texture!
"lol OP is spoiled and should stop complaing about crap"
Stop sucking up to Mojang. There team has men and women who get paid to do a professional job. They have their shorcomings, and people should point them out. Its a company - people can complain. Get over the fact that Mojang nor Minecraft is perfect

The sad thing it that most people think that if they don't like something in the game then it should be immediately removed.

I wish mods banned for this.
