As seen in one of Jebs villager picture teasers, if you look very closely, you can see there is a brand new Gravel texture, what is your opinions on this?
My Opinion: I prefer the old one better, but does look more realistic...
Picture is owned by Minecraft Wikipedia, I take no credit whatsoever.
EDIT: I decided to look around the Recent Topics thread for a bit, this may be a new block. We never know, but we will eventually find out in the next snapshot Not a new block >.>
My opinion is that when they change something in the game thats been in for like.... ages, then it makes it feel different and weird when playing the game, I'm not used to the new texture because i have been playing minecraft for years and everyday i would see that gravel while mining. I'd hate to see that change.
Not really a 'Your welcome' as they could check the MC wiki, or the other threads made on the forum. Not very hard...
In other words I've updated the OP, with the whole block texture, not a screenshot.
Wasnt directed at you ^.^ it was to the people complaining it was blurry. I took those pics myself from the snapshot.
I'm going to be honest, it looks okay, but it does seem out of place. It looks like it's from a different texture pack, not like I ever see vanilla textures anyway.
It would fit in better in paths then in random generation. I wish that this was a new block, you combine Cobblestone with Gravel and make this, or something along those lines.
As a block to use in building or in roads, it looks great! It resembles more of a packed or bonded gravel.
As a block in caves or randomly in the world, it doesn't quite look right. It's not terrible, but it looks a bit too neat for something out in the 'wild'; the original texture looked messy and random, which is what you'd expect.
As cement, it would look fine, but it does not look like gravel. It is hard to distinguish between it and cobblestone, which is going to make caving and surveying more mentally taxing. "Oh, there's cobble, have I been here before?...Herobrine?...Oh, it's just that new weird gravel...."
I hate it. Bring back the old, "busy," "pink" gravel. That's more like what gravel looks like!
The only good thing I see about this is that it blends in with stone. I was mining and I kept running into gravel and accidentally mining some with my pickaxe. But, one thing I noticed about this snapshot:
The new gravel texture and the emerald ore texture both stand out a bit, like a texture pack.
Is Jeb wanting to take some texture pack samples and put them into vanilla Minecraft? Or is he just thinking they fit Minecraft more?
From what I've seen so far I don't think I'll like this new texture.
It far too dark and I'm worried that it will ruin the aesthetics of things that I have built that use the old gravel texture.
I understand people saying it looks better in some applications, but it doesn't look better in all situations.
This needs to be a new block that you can create out of existing raw materials if you ever need it (as someone has already said), rather than something that is forced on us.
I'd rather see change through addition rather than replacement in this case.

Exactly, A person I know is kind of annoyed about this new texture, as he has had an Adventure Map in the making for a long time, and this new texture will not fit to his design ideas. The iron block and dispenser texture change were good, and opened up a opportunity for more design Ideas (Dispensers for temples etc.) and now this texture kinds of blocks off some of the ideas of imagination, and does not fit the 'Pixel' part of Minecraft. If you ask me I would say it looks like Painterly.
What I think you guys should is when you put gravel into a furnace and smelt it, you should acquire this block that is supposed to replace the old gravel texture. This way you appease both sides of the argument and you add a new block!
The new gravel texture looks like crap and doesn't fit in with the quality of the other textures.
I like the idea people here are suggesting, that it becomes a new block. If only the texture artist could refine it so it looks as nice as the rest of the textures.
It after reading the replies it does look good for building paths and castles but the the old texture is just fine for paths too (not much for castles ) But the old one looks much more like gravel which since the game the heavily survival-based it should be made realistic for the land. The new one ehh looks like jagged stone or concrete or some weird grey sand after a rainstorm.
Seems like metal texture.

Sometimes, you just need a little more cave.

Pink? PINK? O.o

Honestly I havn't used the default MC Texturepack since they first added the noses.... err villagers
Edit: Hmmm however after seeing screenshots of it I can't say I would be all that fond of it. Would probably ensure I never went back to default.

I would bring back the old one
