First let me start out by saying that this isn't an "offical bug report" - I just want to see if this is already discussed on the forums and if there's a fix.
Issue: When mining underground, the darn lighting stays bright during daylight hours!
Wow, though this is pretty darn convenient for evil mobs not spawning very much and making mining very easy, it's really annoying. Heck, I've even had thunderstorms and lightning going off down on level 12! LOL Something is clearly wrong with the newer versions is my guess. I've seen this happen beginning with the last pre-release snapshot when I updated.
My guess is that there's comments on this already somewhere else if it isn't my system that's experiencing the stupid lighting glitches alone.
Yes, I had a bug similar to this. I had just finished making my underground hidey-hole for a couple of nights and I destroyed a torch I had put on the wall but the light stayed there! I dug behind it and everything but the light just stayed in thin-air basically.

In the world i generated i saw some strange darker spots on the sand... idk if thats a lighting glitch but looks weird. Also theres a problem when you place a torch on a wall with a block on top, the space of the torch becomes black but it emits light below. And finally, which is understandable is that when you place slabs below the blocks it generates a shadow that shouldnt be there.
EDIT: Forgot one more and massive and UGLY lighting glitch all over the nether =/ (darker lava) and it happens on the normal world sometimes.
Ok guys thanks for the replies. Strange though, seems to be varied feedback that it isn't happening to everyone. The glitch I have in the world I generated is so obvious, you can't miss it when you're underground.
I think I will generate a new world with 1.2.3 from scratch and see what happens.
Sounds like regardless, there's still glitches with the lighting though. For sure the comment that one of you made about the strange dark spots on the sand are similar to what I've seen too once.
Last night I spent an inordinate amount of time designing a new mob trap for myself in creative, only to experience this problem. Parts of my dark room and platforms are lit up, even when completely sealed off.. and I can't see why. I've destroyed and replaced blocks.. I've placed and removed light sources.
The odd thing is, this light is only there in the daytime. At night, it's fully dark inside (this structure is completely above ground in a superflat creative world). It's like light is seeping in somehow.. but I don't see how.. The damn thing is completely enclosed.
I do use pistons and lanterns for parts of it.. but they are also fully enclosed. I don't get it.

Exactly the same problem on the server im playing on. Probably because of the new chunk type, or some blocks above level 128(the original world height limit)don't block light. Its fixed when i destroyed some"leaking"ceiling blocks and replace it(the whole room suddenly turned pitch dark).

Uh... So does that mean "yes I am seeing that same problem too!" ??? Just curious to see if anybody else is having this glitch?
