In my honest opinion. They overdid minecraft, it's not even fun to play anymore. Everything is soooo easy to get. I sat and mined for 3 hours yesterday and had 19 diamonds in the end.
Remember in 1.7.3 it wasn't as easy to get mushrooms, Sugar canes etc. I'm not saying it was hard, but i mean. The game really is overdone, if anyone knows where i can find 1.7.3 files, i would love to know.
What in the world are you going about? Sugar cane was just as easy to obtain in 1.7.3 compared to now, and mushrooms were even more easy to obtain because they would endlessly spread. Diamond frequency never changed from 1.7.3 to now. But if you really want to downgrade you could always use MCnostalgia.
To me, the game hasn't gotten easier or overdone. It all relates to gameplay style, really. For instance; three hours mining, if done right, will land anyone 19 diamonds or more. And if you plant 300 sugar cane stalks, then you are going to find it pretty easy to get sugar cane.
But if you break up your time; spend some time mining, some time fighting, some time farming, some time building, etc, then you won't find the game so easy. Exploring the work to find pumpkins and strongholds, patiently taming ocelots, and hunting ghasts for their tears (among other things) can take up a lot of time and be a lot fun. I work third shift so the only time I get to play is on my off nights. I will play for four or five hours and never feel like I found enough, or built enough, or explored enough.
The other night I spent two hours trying to get records and I got two, one of which I already had.
I'm not trying to tell you how to play, but I do suggest taking the grind aspect out of it all and you may have more fun.
I remember back in like 1.4 or so I got about that many diamonds in about that time. In fact for some odd reason I was thinking Diamonds were harder to find. But then I realized I played mostly on Gargamel and started a few times over so i knew how to get a good amount of diamonds quickly.
Sugar Cane? That stuff that grows like weeds? Shoot, that stuff has ALWAYS been easy to get. Back in 1.7 I just stopped harvesting my small farm of them after the first 10 stacks.
I would argue that Iron is easier. But I did recently downgrade to test something and I spawned near surface leveled iron. I think it was about 4.
Though yeah Iron is easier to get... but Iron has never been hard to get. Find a decent size cave system and come back out with a nice bit of Iron. I find it's only slightly easier to get.
maybe you just skilled in minecraft nowdays,of course it might easier to mine, but EVERYONE seems to forget notch made minecraft with the goal to create, not "collect dem all to win".
Actually, between 1.7.3 and 1.8, the sea level went DOWN one layer, and as a result, all of the ore-levels went down a layer too. Not to mention ravines and mineshafts, and strongholds eating away at potential places for diamonds.
Diamonds are more rare nowadays as opposed to before. They only seem more common because there are more caves for spelunking.

I still use "I" as my inventory key. Everyone who doesn't press "I" is wrong. How can people who press "e" live with themselves?
You can craft a stone pick, dig straight down until you find iron, craft an iron pick, and dig straight down until you find diamond. I've literally made an enchanting table before I've seen a single hostile mob. That's just the nature of fast-expand playstyles.

The only reason that it feels overdone as you say, is because you've gotten so good at it that there is no challenge because you're so familiar, the same happened to me all I did was install loads of mods and it felt good.
Ever since beta 1.8, I've been finding iron is more common. And it's not that I've just gotten better - I have MCnostalgia and a jar switcher on my computer and I do in fact still use the 1.7.3 jar a lot.
In 1.7.3, I have to decide if using my iron is worth it.
In 1.1 (still waiting for the server I play on to be updated before I update), I completely stopped making stone tools just because i have soooo much iron.
Well if all you do is just go directly after the diamond, of course it feels too easy.
Minecraft isn't about WHAT you obtain or do, it's about DOING it. Take your time. Going at it at a fast pace isn't what you are supposed to do. It's like complaining you didn't have enough food because you scarfed it all down.
I just want to point at something i guess nobody remembers: the fact that reed and mushroom growth was "nerfed", in fact now reeds grow slower (maybe a little bit but slower in the end) and the mushrooms have a spread limit.
Its all about the gameplay experience. As long as you play the game you get experience, you start knowing it and doing things more "automaticly" tan before. The result is that you get bored faster because ach problem you had, you learned how to solve it and now, things might become a routine.
Minecraft is not one of the hardest game in the world, and never was. The thing is Its a simple and fun game and after you know it pretty much you can find it "easy".

Since 1.7.3, Mojang added more uses for iron, its the resource that has more uses i guess. If theres more demand on the recipes for certain material, it should be increased somehow.

I only think its slightly more common. I dunno I just never had a problem with finding lots of iron. Yes even in 1.7. Hell I actually recently created a world out of curiosity. I was like 20 blocks away from 4 iron that was ont he surface for the whole world to see. In fact during 1.7 I almost always used iron tools.
But then maybe I have only ever used iron for tools and rails.
You mined for THREE ****ING HOURS and was surprised when you get lots of diamonds? ._. I dunno HOW you mined but jesus christ man.
Also, considering that the things you mentioned are farmable and a renewable resource, I don't really care how long it takes you to find them, when you do, there's nothing else to it . . . =/ It just prolongs the time it takes to find it.
And the game 'not being fun' is entirely subjective.
The problem with minecraft now is that they made it into a rpg. The current gameplay isnt associated with "Minecraft" Its more of a bad skyrim wannabe copy. And a bad one at that.
The special game we had in the early beta staged vanished with xp and potions. And a dragon.. really..
Also. i give us back the old map generators. it may be nostalgia talking here. But the old terrains looked hell of a lot better.
The only good that has come from the new map generator is the new hight limit. The new cave systems is just a mess
Give the options to choose world generator tbh. I would take beta 1.2 map gen over minecraft 1.2 any day
Diamonds are not rare. They are not hard to get. Once most people have been going after them for a while, if they're honest with themselves, they will freely admit this. A simple 16 wide branch mine with efficiency 1 enchanted iron picks will yield lots of vein hits per hour. All that's really changed in the updates is that picks mine faster, and using enchanting, you can potentially get several diamond gems per vein. That alone cannot, and should not make the game, "too easy", as you put it. The real problem is that the player scales too effectively relative to the strength of mobs in the game, and that diamond items decay too slowly relative to rate of acquisition.
The same holds true for iron, excepting those of us who decide to do mega-projects, the rate of decay is faaaar too overwhelmed by the rate of acquisition. While at the same time, the relative power of the player with iron equipment puts them at a level where they really have nothing to fear from mobs in SSP.
If I had to guess, that's the crux of the problem your'e feeling, IMO. Of course, correcting it would be... tricky, thanks to potions and enchantments. But that's a discussion for a different thread.
Anyone complaining that diamonds are too easy to get now doesn't remember how easy it was in 1.7. Up until 1.8, I ALWAYS used diamond tools. Never any other kind of tool except for the short time on a world before I found diamonds. And over time, I'd still amass large quantities of diamond. Now I almost always use iron tools because I just can't support constant diamond use. If you use diamond tools while spelunking, there's no guarantee that you'll turn a diamond profit. They're vanishingly rare in caves now. I find it disappointing, actually.
Iron is more common. Iron is really common. I build **** out of iron now. I did before 1.8, but now I build a lot more **** out of it. The damn stuff is everywhere. I guess it's so that surface-dwellers can still find enough iron.
The only thing that got taken away from the game is monster grinders. Other than that, it's all new features of varying levels of fun, any of which can be ignored. And while 1.8 terrain was boring, 1.1 and 1.2 have matched the coolness of 1.7 terrain. Desert mountains are back, forests are cooler, mountains are more reasonable most of the time, and oceans are valid as a method of transportation due to their reasonable shape and size. The only land form you can't find in 1.2 is tall snowy mountains.
Heehee, such a clear-cut case of rose-tinted glasses. Sugarcane has always been an abundant resource. I had a moderately large semi-automatic farm behind my first world's house. I designed it myself, too, which was impressive given my general inability to build much of anything at the time. What I'm trying to get across is that it's easy to get and that it's easy to create absolutely gigantic farms. Mushrooms are certainly more frequent now. I'm indifferent on that one. Diamonds haven't increased in frequency, in my experience.
Please take off the glasses and look at the past with unclouded vision.
Yes, the feel of the entire game evaporated when Mojang added features you can choose not to partake in.
One of the reasons i like minecraft is that you are not forced to use what you dont want to, its part of the "freewill" of this kind of games. Would you like to be forced to do something even if you dont want to or do you like to be forced to do something that makes the game linear? I wouldnt. In the past minecraft was a lil bit more linear to me.
