Long story short, I upgraded to 1.2, did a bunch of stuff, realized a problem and realized I needed to temporarily needed to revert back to 1.1, and after I reverted back by rightclicking on bin, going to Previous Versions and backing it up, when I went on to 1.1 and click Not Now when it asked to update, all of the stuff that I had in my brewing stands and in my chests DURING the short time 1.2, was gone. All the stuff I built in 1.2 and all the stuff I had in my inventory in 1.2 was still there, but everything in my chests and brewing stands, was reverted. This MUST mean that chest data and etc., isnt stored in the save file but instead stored in the bin folder.
That happens when you update the world generation from anvil back to 1.1, all the things you did on 1.2 will dissapear saddly and hsould befixed. It happened to me because i wanted to be able to edit something with MC edit and went back to 1.1 and all things i did before dissapeared =/
Its not broke, its not compatible, two different things.
I just told my story, this problem doesnt has anything to do with MC edit, its the world format that when its reverted to 1.1, deletes all you did on 1.2.
If you have read about the anvil conversion it renames the "level.dat" file you have to "level.dat_mcr" so that it is not in use, then copies it, converts the copy to the anvil system. then you use that.
Then it keeps the old "level.dat_mcr" exactly how it is while it uses the new "level.dat"
then when you re-open the game in 1.1 it does not convert the new anvil file back using the same process. it just renames the files existing so you use the old one instead and the newer one is renamed "level.dat_mca"
I believe things like inventory, chest, etc. are saved to the level.dat in the save folder of that world.
i also have a prob, when i start minecraft i get the following error
Minecraft has crashed!
