The idea for the iron golems was from the Studio Ghibli movie "Laputa: Castle in the Sky". The rose given to a child is a reference to that same movie, and i assume the image you have there is as well.

Most people just like to compair stuff to what they have "seen" or "known" first. And think ah that's where it got it's ideas from.
It's pretty obviouse that they used Studio Ghibli movie "Laputa: Castle in the Sky" as a reference but even them doesn't come up with it out of the blue. It's all in the jewish history and in their language.

The scene in Laputa itself is inspired by the scene from Universal Studios's Frankenstein movie, which in turn is based off Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, which in turn, again, is based off the Jewish mythology of the Golem, alongside the Greek myths of Prometheus and other sources.
