I appreciate that you said that instead of swearing at me and raging. We need more people like you on the internet.
This could be caused by a couple of things. First, was there water nearby? A squid can spawn in a single source block of water and be washed over to you. Perhaps you hit that instead.
Maybe you already had it in your inventory, but couldn't hold anything else so you couldn't pick up the lapis. You opened your inventory and saw it, not noticing it before, and thought that's what you picked up.
Final answer; You possibly are trolling and using a texture pack, or just outright lying.
(Sorry for my bad attitude, I just got back from Runescape. You know how people there are. )
Edit: I brightened your picture but there is absolutely nothing in the background, other than the very faint outline of a couple of blocks. Perhaps it was too dark to even see the block you mined?
First off, I was just going underground, digging for diamond between the 8-16 block level. I came across Lapis Lazuli at complete random, so I mine it, the Lapis Lazuli splits into about 5-6 objects.
Secondly, my inventory was full and there were no Ink Sacs; I double and triple checked before. So without curiosity, I took 64 blocks of dirt out of my inventory and dropped them, resulting in me collecting the supposed Lapis Lazuli. Instead, I collected what it appears to be "Ink Sacs."
Maybe I was somehow underground near some water, but the strange thing is that I didn't hear any water nearby when I found the Lapis Lazuli Ore.
Thirdly, I have been using the original texture pack for over 2 months now. I just downloaded the Painterly Pack just to see what it would look like; I haven't mined with it on or anything else.
However, the world is using a seed when I first created it, which could have resulted in me picking up Ink Sacs instead of Lapis Lazuli after I mined it. I just think it's very strange.
I guess I should start another world without entering a seed and dig underground with as many open slots as possible until I find it again.Thank you for your time.
As for your bad attitude, I accept your apology.
As for my picture, the Lapis Lazuli was found 1 block above to my right after I dug a huge tunnel 2 blocks in height. I also think I found some diamond nearby as well; I just dug the Lapis Lazuli, which was a few bocks, and there was a small cave with diamond blocks on the ground in a pit. I'll post another screenshot soon.
You have 8 inc sacs, so that's the equivalent of killing I think 4-8 squids. I'm fairly sure that the chances of that many spawning and you hitting them instead of mining the block are pretty slim, especially with you not hearing water.
My best guess is that you already had them.
Here's my mining style; I branch mine until I find any amount of diamonds, lapis, or sometimes gold if I'm paranoid. I head directly to my branch mine base, deposit all minerals, then put all of my 64 stacks of dirt cobble gravel etc. into the chest as well. When I'm finished with that mining trip, I take all the resources I can hold out of the chest and head back up.
This is effective because I almost never run out of inventory space since I add all of my stacks into the chest occasionally. If you go spelunking, head back to your base often to empty out, but you shouldn't gather much cobblestone and the like spelunking.I suppose your pic shows that you branch mine. I branch mine more than I spelunk because it gathers minerals at a steady pace, along with getting tons of cobble which I use for most of my building.
We all have the same game unless one of us knowingly modifies their version so if this is an actual bug, we should all have the same results.
I just mined some lupis whatever the hell and here's a screenshot of the result. RipClaw, you should go do the same and post a ss of your results.
OP, go find some luqis (again) whatever the hell ore and mine it, pick some up in your inventory and have some loose on the ground and take a screenshot.
(sorry about the thread necromancy, i just thought this was kinda interesting)
same thing happened to me yesterday.
well not exactly, not lapis
i was underground, and something blew up - didnt make the creeper ttsssss sound.
and a ink sac was dropped. just 1.
there was no water near by, only dirt and stone.
i have not killed even 1 squid in this world yet, not a single 1.
and i only have 1 ink sac from the explosion.
VERY STRANGE.
i was hoping it'd be some strange underground landmine (like pressure plate + tnt) from a new update that i didnt know about yet. and maybe the ink sac was part of it idk o.O
So I mine it with my pick-axe, but instead of acquiring that, I got Ink Sacs for some reason.
Anyone else get this? Here's a screenshot, telling you where it's located:

Thanks for replying, but I could have gotten a better answer than that; a more relevant explanation than a useless, unimportant one like you gave me.

I don't have a modified version of Minecraft either.
This is very strange.
Okay, I'll find another Lapis Lazuli and I'll be sure to take another screenshot of it before and after.
