Means more arrows of slowness farming, good stuff.
Bit dangerous but whatever, it has an upside to it so I'm not complaining.
One can easily make an auto farm using a skeleton dungeon, since powdered snow does not melt outside cold biomes (yet).
However, as I recall, strays only drop arrows of slowness when killed by a player, so the ideal case is a 90% auto farm and then leg-swatting damaged strays at the end. A long drop works just fine...better get a looting sword though.
Also, I believe the strays do not get damaged when freezing from skeleton state, much like how drowning zombies do not become damaged and in fact go to full health when becoming drowned.
I guess that is good that skeletons can change to strays now like how zombies change to husks or drowned.
In some ways it is, but shouldn't this be a feature limited to normal and hard difficulty? when regular skeletons get turned to strays they are being buffed, because their arrows can now cause status of slowness. That could easily get you killed if you're not wearing armour.
on bedrock edition strays are the only hostile mob beside Pillagers and Phantoms that will spawn in tundras, but this doesn't matter because strays are powerful for a non boss mob type. Arrows cause damage, you can regenerate but if you can't get away to safety in time or kill the group of strays fast enough, you will die. Skeletons are highly accurate with their bows, with a slow moving target, doubly so.

True, that feature should be limited to normal and hard difficulty as strays can be way more than a major pain if you don't have strong armor. You make a great point for that. Easy mode players might have trouble dealing with these mobs. But normal and hard mode players shouldn't have too much of a problem. For me, personally, the change doesn't affect me that much. The only time I am outside with 0 armor is when I am punching wood at the start to go into the mines. Once I come out, I either have full iron or diamond.
A shield solves all your problems with strays, also, not every skeleton is going to go diving into powdered snow.
Anyway, 80% of skeletons under cold biomes are strays anyway, so this increase should be negligible unless you're in multiplayer and someone is spamming powdered snow in warmer biomes.
Not to potions and bosses, and the Wither causing you decay status could bring you down quickly if you're not prepared and don't use potions of regen.
and it's still possible to die from falling on full health
using scaffolding helps prevent this when you're doing a tall building
but it is still dangerous in the Nether.
Slow and steady across the netherack ceiling is advised to avoid falling to your death
And in End it's even worse, if you die in the Void in there, your netherite armor is gone.
Just because you have the top tier armour in the game doesn't mean you're in God mode,
I never take high value armour to the End. I put in an end chest and whip it out for end cities. Or I put it in a chest with minecart for the dragon fight.

I just YOLO it and if I lose my stuff, no biggie. I might destroy my chair and smash my table in frustration but I know I can easily get those resources back.

I can't do it as easily. Also, I'm not the type to destroy things or ragequit, I'd just get very sad and do something different.
Planning and safety for me is a lot better than taking needless risks sometimes.
Yes, strong armour reduces how often you die, but it makes the deaths much more of a setback.

I guess I just have that mindset because I play Hypixel Bedwars. Sometimes you gamble and lose, other times you gamble and clutch in an epic way. Also, I am not much of a planner, except for builds and PvP wars with my friends.

It's definitely something that would vary from person to person, which is why I'm glad that the game is flexible and offers multiple solutions to most problems.

Totally! That is the entire reason I started to play Minecraft. If I was feeling like I could do some work, I can farm on my survival world. If I feel like fighting, I log on to Hypixel to break beds and increase meaningless stats that increase my ego (lol).
Powder Snow – Official Minecraft Wiki (fandom.com)
Just expressing my joy that skeletons now have a way to convert to strays, to be on parity with husks, zombies, and drowned.
(I originally suggested water in cold biomes do this, but powdered snow makes more sense).

Also relevant, powdered snow doesn't melt in the nether, in fact it even freezes you even there, heh.
I wonder if it puts out fire? Time to test later...

And you can also MLG in the nether with powdered snow buckets. I also wonder if it puts out fire as that would be super helpful in the nether.

Maybe to damage and knockback, but not to the potion effect.
The slowness doesn't really matter but yeah. But usually I kill the stray before it lands a single arrow.

I meant invincible to strays, minus the slowness effect.
