Hey, I was just working if slime chunks would be affected by the new y levels. Normally they will spawn at level 40 and lower... will that stay the same or will it change?
I created a flat world in snapshot with just 1*dirt level & flew around until I found a place slimes were spawning (which didn't take long) & tried building a platform underneath but it seems in the latest snapshot you can't place blocks or use /fill commands (while in creative) below the [old] bedrock level... yet
Definitely can. At least I was able to use /fill to replace deepslate with air to see how the ores generate. In swamps, slimes are still spawning as usual.
Edit: created a superflat world 64 thick (1 bedrock, 60 stone, 2 dirt, 1 grass), so grass is at height 0. Slimes spawning at Y=0 nicely.
Created a superflat with 90 stone, so ground is at Y=30. Slimes spawning fine.
Created yet another one, with 101 stone, so ground at Y=41. No slimes. So looks like at least 21w08b it is still Y=40 and below.

I stand corrected.
It seems in Superflat world you CAN'T place blocks / use fill command below lvl 0, however in a normal world you can.
I've retest in a normal created world:
* Dug down to under lvl 0
* Used a fill command to fill an area 256x256x1 of glowstone @ lvl -1 (had to do this in stages anything bigger that 128x128 seems to cause problems)
- This was to prevent anything from spawning EXCEPT Slimes
* Cleared a further 4 levels using same command(s) but using air
* Flew around while using kill command to see if I could see any death particles (in theory these would be slimes as no other mobs should spawn due to glow stone) and found slimes spawning
* Repeated all of this at the 'New' bedrock layer & slimes were still spawning
- so we know at the moment that slimes will spawn between lvl -61 to lvl 40 (in snapshot at least)
The code for placing stuff like that (snow and carpets as well) apparently hasn't been updated for the new bottom of the world and gets placed as if the world were built up from Y=0 instead of Y=-64

No idea.. thought I might try & find out,

Actually, the superflat world starts you out at Y=-60 and the bedrock layer is at -64, that's why you can't build any lower. :-)
(To be honest that didn't occur to me until I turned on coordinates in order to pillar up and see how high the upper build limit was.))
Just testing.
That would be the default superflat. You can always customize it in presets with a string like
minecraft:bedrock,100*minecraft:stone,5*minecraft:dirt,minecraft:grass;
That doesn't seem to work correctly.
When placing the grass it seems to assume that the world starts at Y=0 instead of Y=-64
So I got floating grass at Y=105, 64 or so blocks above the dirt!

I guess that:
minecraft:bedrock,100*minecraft:stone,5*minecraft:dirt,minecraft:grass_block;
might have been what you meant to say, that seems to work, it's just the unkempt grass that gets placed at the wrong level.
Just testing.
Yes, meant grass_block. Weird though that it put grass where it did...
