The best part about this snapshot is I can go farm salt from people complaining that the glow squid got in and it is glorious. ...Funny that it should be coming in considering Minecraft Earth is going to be kicking the bucket before long.
To download the other ones you need to make a folder in the versions folder for minecraft and put the client and JSON file for the versions in there. They all need to be named the same aside from file extensions. Once you do that, you will be able to choose that version when making a new profile with the minecraft launcher.
I strongly like the Minecraft 1.17 update. I have been enjoying the recent Java snapshots and I think Minecraft caves have needed an update for the past couple years. But I am not a big fan of the telescope, I do not see the need for a telescope (Other than for Bedrock players) when OptiFine exists. I do think the concept is cool, but the way they are creating it right now, I don't really like. I feel like telescopes would belong in more of a sea/boats update.

Saying that something shouldn't be added to vanilla just because there is a mod for it ignores the fact that the majority of players do not use mods, much less play on Java, which hasn't been the best-selling edition for the past 8-9 years (just 28% of all copies sold in 2012 were Java/PC and it has only decreased since then), and otherwise you have to wait for mods to update - this is one reason why I never updated past 1.6.4 since even if I'd modded the game to revert changes to world generation in 1.7 and other things I'd still have to wait for the modding tools I use to update (which haven't been updated since 1.12), then spend a lot of time updating (it is much easier to add new features to an established code base; I'd already added glow squid to TMCW well before the latest snapshot and just added glow ink sacs and glowing item frames today).
It's not just in the dark, signs aren't very high contrast in any case. The glowing ink really pops out at you even in the light.
Your previous reply was reason enough for me to add glowing item frames; I've always placed glowstone behind my map walls to ensure that they are all fully lit, and previously modified their rendering so maps don't have directional shading:
The glow item frames have a nice texture regardless of visibility. And I'll have to test it, but using them may allow displaying maps without having to put light sources behind them to prevent ugly seams.
Although I don't see how signs would work unless you used light colored text; I assume that black text is still black (IMO it would be more practical to make the entire sign glow).

You have to use another dye to change the text color or it has no effect.

Glow squids were said to not have a use but we got one anyway, and they look cool, so it's a win win I suppose.
I just hope the unique mobs that aren't voted in by a popularity contest see the light of day, at least if they are more relevant to the context of an update.
Warden: The mob is really cool looking, and will be a brand new challenge to players, it has interesting features and making snowballs a little more useful.
Goat: Ommmm.... I mean is a goat. Is a sheep (Drops mutton) + cow (Can be used for milk), It drops goat horn, yeah not my thing...
Axolotl: I may be biased because i'm Mexican but whatever, I think axolotls are a cute mobs which are really cool, like they can help you with underwater stuff, but their is a catch, in small groups they are not that good though.
Glow Squidward I mean Squid: The mob looks good, has a cool use for decorations, cause many problems because people need to know that if all the mobs votes are the same, all 3 will get added LOL.
Spyglass: Is Crystal plus Copper, better zoom than optifine, optifine zoom for Bedrock edition players. You can spy your friends, that is why is called: SPY-glass
New Caves biomes(Lush Caves, Deep Dark, Dripstone Cave, etc.): They look so cool, the community have been waiting for this like from years ago.
Tall Mountains: They look really cool, old mountains are kinda boring.

New update dropped - Adds some blocks related to the lush caves. I don't have much to say, but I am surprised that they decided to create such a simple alternative to weeping vines, making the original item from the nether essentially useless. This is especially true when you consider that the cave vines are both a food source and a light source, while the weeping vines are neither.

You're right, they ought to have at least made them solid and not go-through.
I will try the update later today and say more then.
What's your opinion on powdered snow hurting you unless you wear leather armour? I think this should have been in the game back in 1.10 to be honest.
Now all we need is a niche use for chainmail...
Well I think it made leather armour useful, and it is logical it is warm and what update was 1.10? Was it the combat update? Odh it was the Frostburn update but it could be nice if they added because they added white bear and frozen bones. And we neeeeeeed A USE FOR CHAINMAIL like is really useless...
Welp
Archeoalgeolegy how it is called?: It looks good, discover brand new history and L O R E, but here is the problem, they look really like if it was a mod, like the sweeping thing and the dirt slab, but maybe they can make it so you dig it like a normal way but you have to mine. it in a specific side idk

I thought both weeping vines and cave vines are different enough that you can't exactly measure their usability. You can use weeping vines as a dope ladder alternative and are fireproof while cave vines can't be climbed.

This has been an odd few weeks for 1.17. While it's not unprecedented for snapshots to skip a week, I can't readily recall a time when there were skips twice in a row.
And, given the wait, the content of the snapshots seems a bit thin. What's there is interesting, mind you, but there doesn't seem that much of it. On the other hand, we've already gotten a big chunk of the new material that was revealed at Minecon, enough that it seems odd that they gave themselves until summer to finish. And given that I'm the one who traditionally always gives Mojang the benefit of the doubt, this may mean something.
Now, it does seem likely that the sculk sensor has taken much more coding than is obvious from the outside, and it underwent a major overhaul in the last snapshot. Perhaps that's at the root of the delay.
As for the projected finish date, 1.16 definitely set a precedent for delivering significantly more material than expected: An extra biome, a new mob, netherite, the lodestone, blackstone, and so on. So it seems likely that 1.17 will end up giving us more than expected too. What, though? Here's some guesses:
1. An extra cave biome, or more than one, seems like a no-brainer. We already know there are new cave styles we haven't seen yet; expanding some of them into full-blown new biomes wouldn't seem that difficult. 1.16 spiced up the new Nether with four new biomes; it's hard to believe that Overworld caves would rate only three. (Lush, Dripstone, and Deep Dark, I'm not counting the geodes.) Perhaps the Dripstone cave will get a new mob also.
2. Archeology might end up significantly bigger and more complex than what we've seen thus far. In what way, I can't imagine - except it seems odd to spend so much effort to make pots with cool designs *solely* for the aesthetic effect. While I can imagine making one or two, I can't see it sustaining my interest for longer than that, unless there's some further motive for doing so.
3. There might be significant technical changes under the hood. In particular, perhaps we'll see a further extension of data packs - duplicating the abilities in Java that already exist for Bedrock add-ons would be a great start! Certainly Mojang has been running hard with the new data tags introduced in 1.13, and it's been good to see.
4. While it's good to see the new tinted glass, amethyst and copper could both use several more diversified uses. (Please no copper armor, though. Copper as an element in tools... maybe. Only if there's something unique about them though, otherwise - since they presumably would have less durability than iron - what would be the point?)
5. I'm *not* particularly expecting anything more for the mountain biome. Except probably an item or two made from goat horns.
While we are mostly just getting various blocks seen in the previews one must consider that there is obviously more work being put into the game than what we are getting. That likely being the biome/cave generation. In many of the images shared by the devs we see generation changes but no such changes have been in the snapshots yet. They are giving us features first to find bugs with them as they continue to fine tune the generation changes. We may not get to see the major generation changes until May.
Edit: Guess I ate my words. The new snapshot officially introduced the max/min build height limits.
The best part about this snapshot is I can go farm salt from people complaining that the glow squid got in and it is glorious. ...Funny that it should be coming in considering Minecraft Earth is going to be kicking the bucket before long.
Figured it was time for a change.
How often are signs (with text on them) and item frames even used in the dark to justify this addition?

Maybe we should think of the glow squid as a refugee.
