Ha! Called it! They added code for depth-dependent biomes in 1.14 and tried it out in 1.16... I predicted that they would bring it to the Overworld in 1.17.

Just didn't expect it to be polished that early.
They also went so far this update! Probably the most abundant one among all official release updates.
Archeology looks quite amazing! Copper - especially the fact it comes in veins! - looks fun. I like the patina effect. Needs some more things to do with it, though. Amethyst geodes are cool, but like copper, the crystals need more uses beyond telescopes.
Still and all, I doubt they've shown us everything they have in mind. There are probably some underground biomes we haven't heard about yet, just as there were in the Nether Update.
EDIT: I'm wondering if bundles might be a little *too* good.

The underground is going to be completely overhauled with new ores and other materials, so a player's inventory would fill fast. Most advanced players would rely on silk touching ender chests with shulker boxes inside, but all of those items are late-game items. And many players in the community may lack the patience, desire or experience to obtain 54 shulker shells, especially since they're not a 100% drop rate. So bundles, a similar concept but at a cheaper price, were an excellent option.

If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
My view on 1.17 before Minecraft Live:
Oh, it's mountains and goats.
My view on 1.17 after Minecraft Live:
