So I made an enderman farm a few days ago and it worked super well. I could get to level thirty in a matter of seconds. Randomly the farm slowed down so much. I went up to where they were spawning, and almost none would spawn. I changed absolutely nothing. There aren't any torches, the endermite is there, and the platform is the same size. I'm not sure if maybe it was an update. I am using 1.16 but I didn't see anything about mobs spawning less in the update log. Please help.
Is your render distance less than 10? If so, it messes up with mob spawning since they won't despawn near the edges of loaded chunks (you may have spawnproofed the area but endermen can teleport into non-entity processing chunks). Note that F3 only shows entities within 80 blocks since the server (internal in singleplayer) only sends most entities, including mobs, within that distance to the client (80 blocks is only 5 chunks so anything higher may not show every loaded entity).
It could also be related to bugs with heightmaps (e.g. maps and rainfall) which affect older worlds loaded in 20w17a; the way mob spawning works is that it chooses a random y-coordinate up to the highest block but the heightmap is broken (not converted properly to a newer format) so it can be much lower and it will never choose anything above it, or it could be much higher, which will reduce the chance it chooses the right layer (e.g. with a surface at y=64 there is a 1/64 chance of choosing the surface while at y=256 the chance is 1/256 or 4 times lower).
So I think it is the bug relating to heightmaps. I changed the render distance and that didn't fix it. I thought maybe I could just downgrade the server, but then everything in the world was removed so i had to use a backup. Do you think they will fix the heightmap issue in a new update?

In the new snapshot it said that they fixed the heightmap issue except the enderman farm is still broken. Do you think that maybe it's because I had already loaded it in 20w17a which broke it forever?

Stick to full releases or report the bug to Mojang.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
