What do you think about this update? xDD 30 minutes ago I opened minecraft just to see the newest april fools update. They didn't made me disappointed. It's probably the first time when my current PC crashed on vanilla mc xD Good job
I think it's great, even a mod that does randomisation (ores, tools, apples, armour, dimensions) hasn't gone as crazy as this because of how unstable it is. It is cool, and kind of made me think of it being Farlands (the odd world gen you see more at the end of the world breaking) meets Buffet (the biomes) but with weird lighting/coloring applied to the world gen or some bizarre randomisation but I think it will stay an April Fools thing. But it is impressive/hilarious.
This is probably a preview of upcoming world customization; Mojang has stated in the past that it will return in a far more customizable form and you can't really get much further than this (at least as far as what vanilla blocks/worldgen can do), including support for more dimensions and customized portals (I see little reason not to implement this, and past April Fool's snapshots have revealed upcoming features).
I updated to the latest snapshot 20w14 and I can no longer see my local worlds. Why is that? Is there a way to play worlds from older snapshots?
This is likely intentional to prevent people from opening worlds in it, given that it is impossible to downgrade, and probably upgrade (it can essentially be treated as a modded instance which adds non-vanilla features and is thus incompatible; true, you can usually open vanilla worlds with a modded version but Mojang wants to be safe). Also, be aware that just because a world isn't listed doesn't mean you can't create a new world with the same name and overwrite it (this is a common way to recover worlds which were corrupted so they no longer show up but the chunk data is intact), unless Mojang ensured that you can't make a world with the same name as one already present, or changed the game directory (if the latter you may be able to find where saves are stored and copy a world to it; there might still be compatibility issues if Mojang made any changes to the save format and didn't bother adding data converters, which may be another reason for not showing worlds).
What a cruel update. I watched that 20w14 update video yesterday with absolute astonishment -- that the Mojang developers would attempt something so radical and different and exciting -- only to realize that it was April 1st that that was only an April Fools joke.
I hope we'll get commands to set the color of the sky and size of the sun and moon. This would be really amazing in creating new exiting dimensions, adventures and game modes.
I don't think they can keep this as-is, because it totally breaks survival mode. Just try 15-20 random dimensions until you find one with all the diamonds.
On the other hand, you can have your base in a pocket dimension, where nobody can ever grief.

Ok so I was tinkering with the stuff cuz i had the same problem if you want to get a World into a version of minecraft lets say from 20w13a to 20w14infinite.
1) you have to have atleast 2 worlds for this 1 the world you want to change versions(from now i will be reffering to this as w1) and another that is in the version(from now i will be reffering to this as w2)
2) after you have the worlds close minecraft and go to a folder ".minecraft" and into "saves" there you should have the 2 worlds
3) go into the w2 copy a file named session.lock
4) paste that file into w1
5) start the world in selected version and BOOM you got the world there

One of the dimensions is full of ancient debris, which is used to make netherite - the strongest material in the game.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Remember those versions that minecraft pranked us with? Specifically:
Minecraft 2.0
Minecraft 1.VR-Pre1
Snapshot 15w14a
Minecraft 3D
Those are still downloadable! Watch this video for 2.0:
To download the other ones you need to make a folder in the versions folder for minecraft and put the client and JSON file for the versions in there. They all need to be named the same aside from file extensions. Once you do that, you will be able to choose that version when making a new profile with the minecraft launcher.

Finally! Somebody else mentions this.
I agree - I think it could be a hint to Customized worlds. One of the worlds you can generate in the snapshot has a sign with the text "IOU Customized" written on it, which could mean "I owe you Customized [world type]".
One of the dimensions is full of ancient debris, which is used to make netherite - the strongest material in the game.
I don't get all the hype over Netherite, which is still worse than diamond prior to 1.9 (swords deal 8 base damage, the same as diamond before 1.9. Interestingly, they deal 9 damage on Bedrock, which still uses the old values. Armor is far worse thanks to armor penetration, which is only reduced by armor toughness; 5 damage will penetrate one armor point compared to 4 for diamond and 2 for anything else, automatically making it weaker than diamond prior to 1.9, which always had 20 armor points - even losing a single point is like losing 1/6 of your health (80% damage reduction = 100 damage taken to die, 76% = 83.3 damage).
The only real advantage is that it doesn't burn in lava and armor has knockback resistance; the slightly higher durability is meaningless thanks to Mending and when Efficiency V is used tools are no faster than diamond for most blocks due to rounding up to the next tick and a 0.25 second delay between consecutive blocks (even gold doesn't provide any advantage in many cases; I tested it and found no difference between gold and diamond on stone or ores, only blocks like obsidian might benefit noticeably from Netherite).
It also isn't as rare as some think; despite being rarer per chunk it is more common than diamond around layer 14 due to a very sharp peak in concentration (this is also below the deepest lava seas, assuming terrain hasn't been changed, while Fire Resistance protects against lava pockets) and the need to mine 4 ores per ingot is offset by only needing 1 ingot per item, while you also need gold and diamond.
In any case, I believe this is a preview of world customization that will be added in a future update, as many April Fools snapshots have foretold new features (e.g. in 2013 they showed features that were added in 1.6 and 1.7, and in 2015 they had a secret code that revealed 1.9 to be the Combat Update; likewise, the "custom" dimension makes a reference to customized worlds being under construction) - obviously, if somebody uses these features to make it easy to find a resource (much like the old world customization) it will be up to them to decide whether it is cheating (note that this does not mean new dimensions will automatically be added - you'll have to use a "world generator datapack", much like using current datapacks).
I remember that I wanted to play my hardcore world in 20w14a but it didn't show up! Can someone help me please? I am trying to solve this issue, because I had lots of diamonds and I didn't want my hard work to be gone!
20w14a is an ordinary 1.16 snapshot that was released on april 2nd.
20w14infinity is the april fools snapshop, it should be available to choose if you create a new installation with snapshots selected.
Apparently you can't upgrade worlds to w14infinity, it can only play its own worlds, according to the Wiki: "Worlds from releases and other snapshots are not visible, but can be accessed by launching the game in said releases and snapshots."
20w14a should also be available if you have selected snapshots, you could edit your installation to change it to the snapshot or create a new one and copy your world to that directory (no point in doing that with 20w14infinity if you can't play it in that snapshot. )
What a cruel update. I watched that 20w14 update video yesterday with absolute astonishment -- that the Mojang developers would attempt something so radical and different and exciting -- only to realize that it was April 1st that that was only an April Fools joke.
I would agree with you 100% but I find these dimensions too weird and silly to want them.

As far as I am aware you cannot revert to earlier versions and still see newer worlds because there is no back compatability.

Btw: Nice idea, but that's laggy
I hope they keep it. Its awesome.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

yea, but you can still play it.
it's really fun,

I wanna see an anarchy server with this. This would be interesting in anarchy.
Holy- , That's a good idea!

Which for people who are bad at combat is incredibly useful.
