While I like the idea of being able to go through lava I personally don't like the new mob - mainly the look of it.. Of course there may be changes when 1.16 finally comes out but If I had to make changes I would do the following
1. Make it less 'BLOCKY'.
I know we have Ghasts & magma cubes which are blocky, but this just doesn't look right to me for some reason... just plain ugly IMHO.
I would prefer if the creature was more like a water skimmer with narrow body with the legs 'resting' on the lava so that it 'floated' on lava instead of it walking through it (Picture is a modified spider to give an idea - 4 legged 'bug' with no neck instead of 8-legged spider in case you can't tell the difference))
We currently don't know if striders will walk through 2+ deep lava or not.. but if it does then technically it doesn't 'stride' through lava but rather 'floats on' lava
2. The graphic.
To me it looks like an minecraft pensioner .. a typical 'grumpy old man' type - balding with wisps of hair ready for a comb-over
.. with the new model type I would prefer a Magma cube type texture but more Orange/yellow highlights
3. Different mob drop,
Currently it just drops string but I would like it to drop some more useful stuff.. for example the new [rare] Netherite scrap.. or maybe a new item - 'Ancient Debris Nugget'.. (9 nuggets make a Ancient Debris block) - you would need to entice them onto land to kill them making them harder to kill for a rare item
4. 'Attitude':
Currently they just 'wander around', but I would have them more acting like rabbit/ocelots - maybe not as skitish though... If you get too close they skitter away (if on land they head for nearest lava)
.. If you have the fungus then they slowly approach you, then you can tame them. If taming is not your thing - then when they are close enough you can place a saddle on to tame them
Well they aren't HL2 Striders that's for sure... They just look like cute lil mini spiders, a bit like ants, silverfish, and I feel like putting a saddle on them is a bit weird but I hope there's a variation of saddles or like how llamas have carpets to be decorated with.
A lava boat definitely makes sense, but what would it be made of? Perhaps magma blocks and a blaze rod or something?

They don't really match the art style, and they're a convoluted way of adding lava transport. I much prefer a boat of some sort, since you can use that in both the overworld and the nether, and pick it up and take it with you. With striders, since you can't really do that, they're a lot more pointless.
I don't really mind them, but I think a lava capable boat would be a much better idea, and hopefully, they add it.
The striders are great and a more creative approach for lava based transportation. Them dropping string is fine. Their main use is transportation; not harvesting. Now we just need a method of getting slime balls so that we can make leads in the Nether. Perhaps the piglins could help us out.

These ideas all seem interesting but unoriginal, the strider is just supposed to be different, less like an animal or aggressive monster and just a passive alienish creature. That's something fairly new. I'd like these ideas too but the strider as it stands - or floats - right now, is good enough for me.

Currently, the strider is very buggy, so I don't use it much (for some reason they just start floating in the air when I try to ride them). But I do like the idea a lot. There are only a few things that annoy me:
1. Riding the strider makes you 3 blocks tall, which means that you need to create specialized structures in order to house them, as most entrances are 2 blocks tall.
2. The strider's model is too thick to fit through doors or fences, so you are forced to either use a solid block as a blockade or simply let them roam around.
3. The strider's follow distance is very short, considering how far from the shore they usually spawn. I've had a lot of trouble trying to lure one to me.
4. The strider cannot climb up blocks, though I have not tested staircases yet (this may just be a bug). This means that you must bring all land where you want to house a strider to one level, and that must be the same level as the lava so that the striders can actually get onto your platform.
5. The strider is far too slow on land, and it doesn't appear to move at all on land unless you ride it. Probably just another glitch, but it is very annoying.
To download the other ones you need to make a folder in the versions folder for minecraft and put the client and JSON file for the versions in there. They all need to be named the same aside from file extensions. Once you do that, you will be able to choose that version when making a new profile with the minecraft launcher.
I find that the strider is too blocky, as well. Here is are a couple suggestions for how the current model could be better.
Personally, I strongly dislike the current look, but like the idea.
I think that small arms like a t-rex or raptor and a tail would balance it out a bit more.
As far as drops, string kinda... not really... make sense. If they had fan like 'wings' it could be a special drop and crafted into an item that blows mobs away in a sweeping range without hurting them. That could be a fun alternative to leads, and work on hostile mobs as well without getting close enough to get attacked. Mob zoo, anyone? :-) That one is less of a serious idea, more of a fun addition concept.
The pic below shows the concept that I think would balance it out nicely.

Finally someone who agrees it's too blocky
I admit I do like a little bit on what you suggest.. the tail does seem to make the body 'longer' although I'd think I would like it further up the stryder back a bit more so it 'floated' at lava level & you could see it & If the stryder was slighly lower in lava so that it's body touched lava level , then I think I would be happier
To be honest your pic reminded me a bit of the original silverfish model (the pic attached is similar to what I believe it looked like when it was first introduced)
The strider is just so ugly, and a nether boat made of obsidian or one of the new nether blocks would have been far better. For the amount of work that went into the strider, they could have very easily devoted those resources into reskinning a boat into a new one, give it fire immunity and have it completed, and make a smaller new mob that does something else.
The nether update is looking to be the best one yet, but the strider is far and away the worst thing about it. The devs clearly are focusing more on doing something different here than doing something that is more convenient and works. I would have much rather seen some kind of salamander or something that lives in the lava. Minecraft still doesn't have a single reptilian thing in it except turtles and the ender dragon that you have no reason to fight more than once (at least on console, because even after all this time we get screwed on a lot of things Java has), and this would have been a perfect opportunity.
I think a mob like the Strider, or at least some form of traversing lava was well overdue. I welcome this change and I like the texture, although I wouldn't miss the Strider if something with similar functionality took its place.

I don't believe there should be a way to cross the lava oceans easily be it strider or boat.
I've never been in favor of any vessel be it obsidian/netherite or wood from the stems of the assorted wood fungi. It shouldn't be easy, that's the whole point, yet there is a percentage of players who want everything handed to them easily on a plate instead of face a challenge. So no I don't believe there should have been any kind of boat let alone a strider, which I feel is a step in the wrong direction. Get the piglins to trade with you sure, but then make it even easier by having gold ore in the nether too.
I have to question the direction some things are taking, the new biomes in the nether for me are most welcome despite being one who has thought the nether didn't need "Doing up" but striders are IMO, a step too far.

You see there's a difference between a challenge and a barrier or wall. Crossing lava with a strider requires fungus, so it's a challenge. Not being able to cross it at all other than slowly swimming with a bottle of lava resistance is a barrier. Trading with piglins when gold is in the Nether is too easy, but what if you want to do Nether only survival? Then it becomes more of a wall if it's only available from fortresses and bastions which piglins themselves get mad at if you open them.
I actually personally don't like the Nether too much because I think it makes the game too hard in this stage for players who just want to get in, get ender eyes, get out. The height and shape extremities of the new biomes and their mobs makes the Nether harder than it already was, as well as more complex and harder to explore overall. I expected basalt deltas to be flat "seas" of black rocks and hot lava on the ground in low-height nether waste caves. Instead, they are in-traversable mountains.
Some people find this game hard, some don't. Don't assume everyone finds it as easy as you do or likes having extreme or risky challenges all the time. Minecraft is as much a peaceful and fun, light-going easy-hearted game as it is a dark, scary, adventurous, or combat-filled one. It should be one size fits all and that means the Nether, like everything else, needs to be balanced for all levels of skill at playing.

It's not really a challenge though is it, as fishing rods are easy to make and it won't be hard to find a fungus. Even getting to the nether will be slightly easier with the way portals also spawn in the overworld (Don't agree with). Sure you still need the obsidian though, but most of your job is done.

Now your trying to put words into my mouth, I didn't say "I" find it easy, I said it shouldn't be easy peasy for everyone. Yes it should fit all skill types, I agree with you there, but not at the expense of making it too easy.

No weapons
to me it is not creepy I guess , it supose we are on a hell , this breaks all the enviromental feeling

Praise be to Spode.
I don't like that you have to feed them because you might run out in the middle of a lava lake and be fried right then and there.
