Please don't take this as an attack, but you've said that before for previous updates as well. Mojang has proven historically that the first snapshot has the bulk of the content, the second snapshot has 'A' feature or two, and the rest are bug fixes. IF by some miracle they release something new in the next four months (which is my estimate for how long it will seemingly take them) then I will admit I was wrong and be absolutely shocked.
Looks like they released a lot of stuff in the most recent snapshots except 17, 16 was absolutely chock full of new stuff and so was 15.
Thanks, 'Bases'! I have seen the single chests, single/double pairs, gilded blocks, and the gold blocks, just no sign of a treasure room yet. Still looking, going on 20 locations without luck. I have even used spectator mode to browse around, once the blocks have generated.
You're welcome. Yes, there are no real treasure rooms. I'm not sure how these messy structures even generate but the randomness is nice and feels natural and a breath of fresh air for the game. I'm sure some smart person on the wiki will figure it out eventually.
I thought I had responded with updated thoughts earlier... But wow. Just wow.
I am thoroughly pleased with the new batch of content. The music, particularly the disc, is nothing short of fantastic. Despite my initial qualms with the maker not being C418, I adore all the new music coming in. The ambience... Of my goodness the ambience is awesome. The new basalt delta is magnificent, we FINALLY got broken nether portals as structures, and at long last the bastions are here and they are impressive!
And what's this? Chains? As in... Chain armor and chain links for minecarts?
All in all I am quite happy with the update. We could do with another mob--one that goes outside Mojang's obsession with bipeds--but it'll do. Can hardly wait to reset my nether and play with this new set of features! Well done Mojang.
I'm still hoping for atleast one more curveball feature. It's a bit too soon to enter the bug fixing phase.
I feel like only a few tweaks would be really necessary for this. Have the Nether forts use more nether brick variants and have zoglins spawn in the Nether wastes and maybe the soulsand valley biomes.

What obsession with bipeds is that? There are plenty of non-bipedal mobs! And while the striders may be bipedal, they are definitely not humanoid! The same could be said for creepers.

I like all of the new additions and biomes, Great job, really creative.
There is just one thing that I dislike. Nether generation makes it very difficult to explore long distances. There are an excessive number of tall canyons and a serious lack of open spaces. The ratio of Air to Non-Air block seems (to me) to have been lowered dramatically, forcing you to mine long distances to to explore. Do you agree?
Finding nether fortresses and structures seems much more difficult if you try to play in pure survival without resorting to a mapping programs or using spectator mode.
Also is it my imagination or have the number of nether fortresses been reduced? They seem much further apart.

I have explored a dozen of the Bastions to date in 20W16A, and none have a treasure room. Are these not generating yet?
If someone has a seed and a location or two, where they have seen them, I would greatly appreciate seeing them!
The first one I found had a treasure room on the bottom level (a cache of gold blocks and some chests) and a Magma Cube Mob Spawner hanging from the ceiling on what looked like a chain. None that I've found since than had a treasure room. I'm running 20w17a

Whoa what
I've never heard of that
Bastions are super tight, how do you even fit big magma cubes in there

While true, I just wish we could see more variation, that's all. There are quite a few humanoid mobs already present and personally, I like seeing weird designs such as the Ravagers, Guardians, Endermites, Phantoms, Blazes, and Ghasts. Designs that also help make an area feel more alive by having something outside the former civilization or sentient creature slot. I'm always curious to see what they have cooked up! I suppose I should have said humanoids instead of bipeds, considering I adore the design of the striders and I can see potential in something like a twisted version of a theropod. I just thought it was funny that striders had to have 2 legs.
I've also been waiting for the Bane of Arthropods enchantment to become useful, as presently arthropod mobs are weak and can be taken out in 1-2 hits without trouble. I was hoping to see some monstrosities that could warrant the enchantment.

I do like a bunch of the newer generation but I've also noticed the difficulty is travel has ramped up quite a bit and that does annoy me. Thankfully Striders exist to help offset that. Nether fortresses do seem a bit less common but considering they only spawn in some and not all of the biomes (a darn shame), this is expected. Though we now have bastions and broken portals.

Agree, and this is the part I don't like about the update. Too hard to do the do.

What kind of weapons do you have that you can take out a spider or silverfish in one hit? Especially if there are multiple around and getting a critical hit is hard?
Okay, I was wrong about pre-release this time. But it seems clear that this update is indeed wrapping up. Some technical changes and tweaks, no new content.

Yea, I guess that's it then. Still sad about the fact that the fortress is not going to be revamped. It's pretty much imo a miss opportunity.
Nice to finally have some biomes in the nether and i especially love the soul torches/campfires/fires, you name it. You can now add some spooky lighting to the place
Some nice technical stuff added this update, but it definitely feels like a finishing touch. I still expect pre-release next week.

Probably not.
Redstone Engineer. Good at commands, an exceptional builder, and has played Minecraft for 8 years.
Nah, I think they're done, judging by a survey being out for the update so far.

The non bipedals usually look cooler.

If you're having trouble going up and down just carry some weeping or twisted vines and some bone meal and you can go up or down as much as you want.

I don't think the fortresses need a revamp. They just need a touch up. Make them use the new nether brick variants here and there.
Praise be to Spode.
Good Morning!

They're quite barren, even more so than strongholds.
Well, we haven't reached pre-release phase quite yet so I'd say about two months.
