2. If they've been traded with, that's intentional.
3. Do they have farmland and farmers?
4. That is 100% a bug, make a report.
5. Also might be a bug, please elaborate.
6. 100% a bug, please report
7. Villagers just use any bed in a village. They don't care which one. Not a bug (to my knowledge)
thanks for the reply
1. yep lol.
2. hmm didn't know that. still a bit noobish.
3. yep. they throw food at each other all the time. they just don't breed.
4. will do.
5. from what read in the wiki, they usually hang around their work station, then wander around ocasionally to gather stuff, and then gossip around the gathering site, more or less. they just wake up and chat with each other all day wherever they want. none of the villagers even go to the gathering site anymore since i put in the 1.14.4 pre-1 patch so i reverted back.
6. gonna report that too thanks.
7. i thought once they claimed a bed they went back all the time. anthoer case of me being noobish lol
Villagers would throw ALL their food when sharing, leaving that one no longer able to breed, and in dire need of food, so the other one would throw all THEIR food back at the first one, so now the first one can breed but the second one can't and is in dire need of food...lather, rinse, repeat. When a player throws food at the empty one in this cycle, they may get enough food to not trigger the other to share with them at once, so they may both have enough food to breed at the same time.
But this is supposedly fixed in 1.14.4-pre1, if you're still getting it in that snapshot, note it on the bug report page I linked above.

I know this is an older thread, but I'm locked in my house and need to vent :-)
I have experienced all these bugs at one time or another. In my current 1.15 world villagers are still standing outside houses that have empty beds in them all night long.
What really annoys me is the first bug on the list: multiple villagers claim the same workstation. This bug has been reported to Mojang, but either it has a low priority or they can't fix it. I have useless villagers who don't replenish their trades and breaking all associated workstations and placing them again hasn't helped. When I break the workstation, the duplicate villager (who hasn't traded yet) gives up his profession, but as soon as I place the workstation again, it is claimed by another duplicate. The original villager seems to be in a state where he doesn't want to associate himself with a workstation. The next thing I will try is locking the original villagers in a house by themselves with a new workstation. I don't like doing that because my villagers are free folk. If anyone has any other suggestions I would be glad to hear them.
My husband and I both have villagers that will not update. For days and days, once they have been traded with to the "max", they will no longer accept trades, making them useless. This seems to be new in 1.16. Suggestions for how to fix it? Anyone?

You didn't mention if the world was updated to 1.16 or if the villagers were spawned in 1.16 and have workstations.
Assuming they are native 1.16 villagers and have workstations, you might be experiencing a problem I had. Sometimes a newly spawned villager claims a workstation that already "belongs" to another villager. The original villager can't use the workstation any more, so he can't update his trades.
I have been told that removing the doubly-claimed workstation and placing a new one of the same kind for the villager to claim helps to fix the problem. My village was rather chaotic and I didn't know which workstation was the "culprit", so I moved my non-trading villager far away to an empty village and placed a workstation down for him and that seemed to work too. He started trading again. Maybe being far from the original workstation had the same effect as removing it from the game.
Your problem may have a different cause, of course. I wish you luck in fixing it!
The villagers worked fine before 1.16. We currently are using 1.16.3, and I am very disappointed that the recent update didn't resolve the problem. I only have trouble with the clerics. To my knowledge I have only ever had just the 2 clerics. All of my villagers excepting the farmers and the unemployed are "trapped" in single-villager areas, each containing a workstation and a bed. Their areas are only 2 blocks high, so golems can't spawn there, and they are sorted by profession, making it very convenient for shopping (very organized, no chaos). My husband's villagers that won't update are other professions, I forget which. I have tried removing their workstations and placing them in different places (carefully, with any unemployed villagers blocked from appropriating them). It didn't seem to make a difference. I suppose I could try moving these clerics far away, but honestly it seems like it would be easier to just kill them and start over! I'd rather not have to kill off my golems, though (since they would attack me if I did that.) Any other ideas?
I have used the lava idea to eliminate villagers that won't update (and also some librarians that didn't carry any worthwhile books.) The result was that my villagers stopped breeding for quite a long while, much more than 15 minutes. It didn't seem to affect their prices, but replacing the "nothing" librarians is taking longer than I had hoped. I still have a farmer that isn't updating; he is going to be harder to deal with, I suspect.
these are things that i have not found listed in the bug reports, but may only be happening to me, lol.
01 - multiple villagers are claiming the same workstation. i have 2 farm stands and 7 farmers.
02 - when you break any or all of the workstations, for any of the employed villagers, they do not revert back to unemployed villagers.
03 - the villagers will not breed unless food is thrown at them by a player
04 - villagers can glitch through openings such as a single block in order to claim a bed on the other side of a wall.
05 - villagers are not following any sort of routine whether they are employed or not. they just wander around chatting with each other.
06 - villagers will sometimes stand on their bed all night instead of sleep.
07 - villagers will claim beds that have already been claimed which does not seem to bother most other villagers as they will just claim other beds.
that's all i see right now. if anyone else has experienced these problems let me know. i will be putting in a bug report soon.

It's not noobishness! All of these village features (pretty much) only just came out, so most people are still getting the hang of them

3 sounds like it might be this bug: https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-154031

Do they have the appropriate workstations?
They now have to use their workstations to renew trades.
If the villagers are from earlier versions you may need to get them to breed in order to get fresh villagers that work properly in 1.16
Just testing.

You _can_ kill them in ways that don't point the finger at you.
Like dump lava on them (or them into lava).
If they die while you are around I think all villagers stop breeding for a few minutes but only 5 or 15 or so.
(Not sure if it affects trading but if so I'm pretty certain that would only be temporary as well.)
Just testing.
Hmmm! I'll have to think about the lava idea. They are currently in a wooden building, so I'd have to get them outside. Mulling that over...
