Since I downloaded 1.14.1, it seems monsters spawn at super high rates in my singleplayer world. Anyone else having this problem? It's good for xp, but it makes caving exceptionally difficult as there are about a million and a half mobs in any dark room.
What is the entity count in F3? If you can, compare Peaceful to Easy+; the difference should be about 70 if the mob cap has not been changed, otherwise, the actual spawn rate is pretty much irrelevant since the game attempts to spawn as many as 18000 mobs per second (in fact, I've optimized mob spawning in my own mod by giving each chunk a 25% chance of spawning mobs per cycle - despite this, the game had no issues keeping up while flying around in Creative and only took a couple seconds to fill the cap after switching from Peaceful, and the last time I played I killed over 500 mobs in 3 hours of caving, averaging 350 per play session).
I've heard of "changes" to mob spawning in 1.14 which supposedly increase spawn rates but as mentioned above only the mob cap matters under normal conditions, and a change to the spawn rate would only impact mob farms (the changes I made means they will be 4 times slower; they could easily reduce rates a lot more and still maintain normal spawning in caves and on the surface; passive mobs only spawn once every 400 ticks/20 seconds but if you run around in a Superflat world you'll see plenty spawning, provided that you get out of the spawn chunks before any spawn there (on a view distance of 10 the loaded area is 336 blocks across, which takes about half a minute to cover even when flying in Creative).
Also, you didn't happen to change the render distance? If you previously had it set to less than 10 there is a bug with mob spawning (actually, despawning in "lazy chunks") which would have previously made them too uncommon (though with all the reports of lag in 1.14 I doubt that many players will have increased render distance. Also, since mobs build up in "lazy chunks" once you move towards them you'll run into a bunch of mobs, even on the surface during the middle of the day).
I also found a bug report, marked as fixed, about excessive mob spawning in the snapshots; perhaps it wasn't entirely fixed after all (it wouldn't surprise me).
I don't have any proof but it does seems like spawn been increased. I will run into a cavern when mining and just get swarmed by hordes of mobs. It should be a normal difficulty world but the spawn rate is like it is in hard difficulty. Problem for me is I will break through a wall into a dark cavern and they all pour out, normally creeper who then blow big holes and allow more to pour through.
I'm having the exact same problem, any minor dark place spawns 3 random monsters every 10 seconds making the game extremely difficult.
I've tried ignoring the problem since I can easealy oneshot or bishot every monster but there is no limit and I'm unable to sleep in ANY bed since there are always monsters nearby.
As mentioned before, there is a bug with mob spawning in 1.14, which appears to ignore the mob cap so hundreds or even thousands of mobs can spawn, which also causes a lot of lag (I previously found a report that was closed as fixed, which as I suggested may not have been fixed; instead of reopening it they made new ones):
I have proof. I was playing on the seed 662518987541301 at coordinates -700, 100. when at first every thing was normal but after i slept in a bed for three minecraft nights i woke up to a horde of zombies skeletons and creeps.but not only where the violent mobs affected but all mobs where. there was a sort of lake like feature and it was swarming with salmon and squid. but the weirdest thing of all is when they spawned in they spawned in little huddles that where scattered
i have the same problem my difficulty is peacueful theres like 3 entitys when i go to my cave i switch to easy theres about 60 entities already it happens in less then a minute i switch to hard an BOOM theres 100 entities it happens in like 3 second
i really hate that at first i thought it was some connection with herobrine but hopefully i will know the real anwser

Can't really say I've seen any difference from 1.4, it still seems to me that I should be getting more drowned around my island.
(Though maybe I still have a lot of mobs spawning in caves.)
How much caving have you done on that world?
If you have lit up most of the caves in an area then there will be more spawns in the remaining dark caves.
Just testing.
Can`t see any difference at all. Pretty much the same for me or i just dont notice it..

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

MC-151337 Mob spawn rate too high
MC-151772 Mob cap in the hundreds to over 1000 per player. (there should be around 70 hostile mobs)
