so I’ve had this world since 1.13 and I reside within a village. Obviously that made me pretty excited for 1.14, so I prepared the houses with beds (knowing they wouldn’t just generate them) and got profession tables all ready to go.
as I boot up the world after 1.14 installs, I notice quickly my villagers are breeding non stop. I’m not kidding - my population was somewhere around 20 and now I have no idea. They soon spawned in six additional iron golems in only a few hours of gameplay.
The beds aren’t outnumbering the villagers at all, yet they keep breeding. They aren’t dying or disappearing either - my town is barricaded safely. I’m curious why this is happening as I can’t find any information, and if anyone else has encountered this.
I'll have to take another look at my world (updated from an early 1.14 snapshot) and count my villagers to see if they are multiplying. I didn't think they were because I have never seen any baby villagers, but they could be multiplying as adults. There are several running around who have no profession yet. The iron golems are definitely multiplying. As I posted in another thread, the number of iron golems rose from 2 to seven in one day of game play. I wish the villagers weren't so darned hard to count. It would be nice to be able to ring the bell and have them all line up every morning for a roll call. :-)
EDIT: It's hard to tell exactly, but I think I now have around 19-20 villagers. I don't know how many I started out with, but it wasn't that many. In the meantime I have 8 iron golems in the village.
The same thing is happening in my 1.13 village. I had built it up to 30+ villagers, and now they are all in breeding mode, all the time. A few new babies have been born. Seems like a bug.
Are the villagers and beds all at approximately the same height?
The Wiki seems to suggest that the glitch that allows for infinite breeders is still with us, just with beds rather than doors.
That is that villagers more than 5 blocks above or below the village center aren't counted towards the population cap but still breed trying to reach the cap.
Something similar may be responsible for the reports of out of control iron golem spawning.
ngl I'd like to see this kept as a feature for the iron golem part. I had 3 iron golems in my village once, then couple in-game days later, I'm not sure what happened to them. (they either fell in a cave or got killed by skeletons at night)
I wouldn't mind to see my villagers take time to summon an army of iron golems to help me clear pillager raids on hard mode in my single-player world.

Your golems may have been killed, but they may also have just wandered off. There has been a problem with golems doing that.
In the case of my current village, I like having a lot of golems but they aren't very useful. In the meantime I have 12 golems (up from 2 yesterday), but they don't patrol the village properly. Five or six of them are all bunched up in the river and I had to put up a fence in the river to keep them from wading further down the river and leaving town altogether. The others tend to stay on the same side of the village as the river. There is only farmland there that I planted myself. If illagers entered the village from the other direction they could enter all the houses and kill the villagers and the golems wouldn't even notice.
The number of villagers I have seems to be going down again. I could only find 15 villagers this evening and wonder if some have been killed off.

My village is indeed laid out at different heights, which may be confusing the limit for villagers / golems. The golems don't go up the stairs to the higher parts of the village. In the screenshot you can see 5 of my golems just stomping on the crops.
This is interesting. I built a 'hotel' of sorts in my village that goes probably 20 ish blocks up from my village and has a few beds, with villagers coming and going. Do you suppose their existence in that area could trigger the glitch?
If so, I don't mind them multiplying so I'll probably just leave it as is.
Golems and villagers usually don't interact well with housings built on tall heights ( houses on a large cliff), and in my village, the golems and villagers like to stay in one side of the village, and leaving one area on the other side of the main village center empty. (If the bell is supposed to be considered the center of the village)
I have the same issue on bedrock edition for my xbox, except I've got a massive mini kingdom with several small villages in it, but the weird thing is that I've got maybe 30 villagers spawned with golems and cats in an open field that hasn't been developed yet. I cant find out where they're coming from and I definitely have way more villagers than beds. I'm fairly positive it's a bug or glitch and I'd gate to kill them off but its causing serious lag and even visibility issues sometimes. Any hints on how to solve this problem short of turning it into a lava field?
It’s only a temporary solution, but I made a small execution chamber for excess villagers.
you just dig a hole 2 blocks deep with a magma cube at the bottom, and they’ll regularly just fall in.
it seems like it isn’t too dangerous, because a lone villager will very rarely fall in. But if it’s crowded they will.
another method is to bury them in their sleep, just a big ol’ pile of gravel.
It almost physically hurts me to do it. I worked extremely hard to find zombie villagers to cure to make my village, but now they’re spawning out of control and iron golems are actually killing me more often than anything else LOL. Just one mis-click and they fling me over the wall.

The way I can tell they’re non-stop breeding is everyone has their heart particles going (and then, of course, babies everywhere). I don’t get it...

Just testing.
