I notice that the textures of the gold and diamond blocks were changed in the latest snapshot. They are much improved, though not as good (IMO) as the originals.
I do like the new textures for plants better than original Minecraft, though. Trees and crops look better than before.
I will be the first to say that I absolutely did not like the first glimpses of the new textures we got from Jappa, but now that he's been working on them for awhile I think he's improved significantly, especially with this new version.
I really enjoy the newest plank textures. I grew to like the 3D V2, but still thought they were too glazed-looking. V3 had a really nice texture but I also felt that they looked a bit too weathered. These new ones are a perfect, perfect mixture of both.
The new crops and plants have also gone through a major improvement, especially with wheat in my opinion. No longer will we have neon-orange fields of plastic-looking wheat. Now we have a colour that is way more realistic and suited for builds. Sadly, it seems like hay blocks haven't followed suit and are still the ugly contrasting neon of yore. I especially love how the cactus now has the same colour of the green dye. Really adds some good continuity.
Obsidian is one that I can't really understand why it's been changes so much or why so many people are stomping their feet at every single texture Jappa has presented. Old obby was ugly. One of the worse building blocks in the game aside from bedrock. Every single new texture Jappa has made for them I have absolutely no problem with, especially the V1 design which looks like a block forged in lava.
One of the textures I do not like, however, is the clay brick blocks. They are one of his earliest textures he made for the game and imo it really shows. The mortar between the bricks is way too heavily shaded and it just looks cartoony and out of place.
Barrels and Lanterns are a godsend and have very nice textures.
Jappa's overall retexture is nice. It's a shame to see the original ones move on to greener pastures, and I would have much rather preferred the retexture not to have come in the first place, but since we can't do anything about it the best we can do is look on the bright side. Jappa's a good pixel artist.
Who in their right mind even plays this game with default textures when it's so easy to use better ones?
A lot of people play the game with the default texture pack because they simply have no reason to use a different texture pack because they probably find them acceptable. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you have to.

Just waiting for Forge to officially release for 1.13.x to remove unneeded mobs from 1.13, like Phantoms, from the game because, in my gameplay based opinion, they add nothing of value to the game.
Fun fact: Clicking a bed every 30 minutes doesn't make you a better player, it makes you one who clicks a bed every 30 minutes. Wouldn't you rather just mod them out of the game completely?

Honestly, though I find the - Original, they might have to be called (and assumably new things will have New Textures, more-or-less irregardless) - Textures - the "O(riginal) T(exture)s" - more-visible. It's easier to tell what's-what, at less-of a glance.
As opposed to: "what's that? it's fuzzy..! Gee, that looks great... but what the heck Is it..? Oh, I'm so confused, I wish I could just See (I.e. , Distinguish) these better...!" Which's been a continuous- "Bug /feature" of Gravel's multiple Changes, throughout its own mini-example of re-re gonna-be re-Texturing (at least 3 "re" 's - do-overs - I think it's gonna be).
And every time, it loses focus. /Increases randomness, fuzziness, and /or blending-Directly (instead of having - to this point - a relatively-Consistent style [which was probably based on sizes - so clear-enough things scaled - colors & shades, balancing & edging]).
Having a thing against extra work or extra modification doesn't make you insane. The old and new textures may be good or bad, but not everyone cares enough to learn how to change them.

I am a console gamer that has never done any PC gaming. I am technologically-challenged, to the point where I tend to plug things in wrong even when I'm just setting my xbox up.
When I was trying out pc minecraft years ago, it took me all of 10 minutes to look up a mod, download it, look up a guide for installing it, and getting it installed.
Seems like a mixed bag. Most of the texture changes are pretty nice but some of them look worse than their originals, like netherrack which looks too blurry, prismarine bricks which don't have as much detail and glowstone, which is honestly kind've an eyesore.
The new marble texture looks terrible, like someone took a dump and andesite looks too much like smooth stone. Gravel doesn't look grainy enough and cobblestone looks too perfect. In some cases it's like they took a blur filter to the textures. Cobblestone, in particular, wouldn't be comprised of equally sized stones of the exact same shape.
At least, in this case, they aren't forcing everyone to deal with the new texture pack and included the original one that can be swtiched to in the options settings.

NO excuse.
Aside from the contradictory statements, games should have default texture packs that aren't bad and force players who wouldn't normally use non-default texture packs to install non-default texture packs. That being said, they have included the original texture pack in the game so players can still use them by switching the game to them in the default settings. Unless that is only something available through MultiMC.

I feel like the textures are just pushing the more recent style of making Minecraft feel like an RPG with sandbox elements rather than a sandbox with RPG elements. That new style personally fits me more, but I know a lot of people like the old style here much more, especially the serious builders and farm-makers.

Not liking mods and having multiple sources for glitches are perfectly reasonable excuses. Spyware, while rare, is also a thing. Vanilla is best IMO, and that's a matter of taste.
Well, since there is no way of getting the latest and greatest textures into 1.12.2, then…I don't really think anything. :-D
I just laugh how everyone is against it. Like…they change it, and you guys are grabbing your pitchforks. :-D Change, that's what you don't like. You got used to something and you don't want the change. It has nothing to do with the texture pack itself.
Overall, the new textures look bland and flat. Like really just flat. Nether rack looks flat, cobblestone looks flat, sandstone looks flat. Sand and gravel have no texture, andesite looks like a modified smooth stone. If you look at a large expanse of netherrack it's like someone put a flat textured wall paper on the floor. It's like they took the new cobblestone, changed the color saturation and said "amazing!" I don't even know why it looks like cobblestone.

If you'd read the thread you'd notice it has everything to do with the texture pack itself.

I would say that's a very watered down way to think about people who don't like 1.13, 1.14 or the 1.14 textures... and I wish more people would try and relate or atleast discuss further, rather than say "they don't like change" and "it's just nostalgia". Those aren't the only reasons people have, but they aren't invalid either. It's not about change simply occurring; I liked all of the updates before 1.7. It's about the game losing qualities it currently has, and if the change really makes the game better or worse (and not just on a "new stuff" or utility level- also the game's feel as a whole, and the impact on how people play the game).
As for the textures, I like some aspects and dislike others, but it really feels like it's part of a different game than Minecraft. Though my biggest concern is how it will impact the community- I had said a bit about that in my post above. It's the fact that the textures might be official that makes it controversial. If it becomes official, it will appear on the launcher; it will be the new look of Minecon Earth; all the merchandise for the game will change, and the T-shirt you bought for the game out of passion will now have an "outdated" look. That could split the culture of the game...
It's basically guranteed that some people will dislike the textures. If only 20% dislike it, that's still millions of players upset and posting adventure maps and YouTube videos in the old style (potentially upsetting you or other 1.14 players, too).
I could go on further, but I think my point is made.
There are some that I like, about most of the I don't really have an opinion.
It's true some of them could look a bit less flat.
But I really really preferred the previous Netherrack, I think it had a much more "netherish" look and more complexity (including because it had some patterns in it depending on how you placed blocks)
Edit: I think I like what they did to glass though.
They look like a GPU fire, they are ugly, plain and simple. It's like they picked a texture artist and style at random just for the sake of change. And they are the definition of an insult to the established artstyle, to Minecraft itself, a rebranding of the worst kind and an utter failure because the textures fail to even be distinct in their little creativity devoid vacuum. I'd like to see how popular those textures could be if they were released as a standalone pack - I'm going to go with not very, there are beautiful textures by skilled texture artists and these textures are the polar opposite. I will be overwriting them in my core files and using texture packs to erase them from my corner of reality.

I agree. The new textures will ruin Minecraft. I love the current textures
and i think the new textures looks uglyEdit: Actually I like the new textures but I still prefer the old ones

The new textures are much mellower (if that's a word) than the old ones, also I think that they fit in better with the newer blocks.
